Tom Spicer is probably the aspect of Dallas I miss the most after moving away. He was truly unique and a vital force to the dining scene. I missed his dimebag mushrooms this past fall, I'm missing his salad greens now in the winter and spring.
I never even said good bye to him when we moved. Jesus. Gonna go back to bed now.

And the timing so soon after the closing of Spiceman's is just horrible. It's like those stories you hear about elderly couples, when a perfectly healthy person will die just days after their longtime spouse passes.

Yeah, if it really was a stroke as is being speculated the stress of that loss did him no favors. He bled for that place, came close to losing it several times, then just out of nowhere it was over and he's sent scrambling. To say nothing of losing that wonderful garden he'd built.

Oh my god, yeah, that place closed just a couple weeks ago and I visited it only 1-2 days too late, only to find the storefront empty. I was looking forward to him reopening somewhere, anywhere.

He did, briefly, but I'm unsure if he was selling to the public or not. First reports said he was only servicing restaurants, then later it seemed like he was sellling to the public again.

It actually went up by mistake because they're having trouble with their blog CMS. He's going to add our bylines and photos sometime soon.
Definitely found out through you guys. Kinda hilarious.

I was going to ask about the bylines, in fact. If you didn't read carefully, you might almost think this was Joe Tone's story.

Wonder if they'll do the burger with a real cheese instead of American.
I'm really sad I won't be in town for Tom Spicer's life-celebration-party at Stoneleigh P. Represent for me, Snape Family.

This is so cool. So happy for you. I'd be curious for you to visit that Ramen joint in the Asia World/Jusgo shopping center on Legacy at 75.

Big Chinese hotpot chain. It's like the Chinese Macaroni Grill, I guess (in terms of class/function, not food). My dad had been to a bunch over there and told us about them 4-5 years ago; now they're expanding to Chinatowns in the USA. The ones in China apparently have those giant floor-to-ceiling fish tanks you can pick dinner out of.

Ah. The Filippino place is in the food court. The usual suspects. Seemed very fatty and greasy.

Oooo, enjoy it! This is one of those places I'm glad is so far from me, or I'd be there all the time. Jerrier is really doing well. I lost some more time, because I was inexorably drawn to the stories about Anne Burrell getting sued and Anthony Bourdain's guy at Les Halles dying .

The comments for the Ann Burrell article are delightful, as usual with internet comment sections.

Olivella's vs. Cane Rosso in a showdown, who do you take?

I haven't had either. I heard Olivella's was more of a crisp crust though, so that's the loser for me.

Their "black truffle" pizza (speck, mushrooms, truffle oil, pepper, cheese, no sauce) is just like the good stuff I had in the Alsace, where they call it flammkuchen. I haven't had Cane Rosso yet, but they have a high bar to clear cuz I love the crisp crust at Olivella's.

I think Cane Rosso is maybe the best pizza I've had in DFW. I've never bee to Olivella's.
This question remains unresolved.
