I'm watching Resident Alien. I like it. And I love seeing Alan Tudyk in something again. It is a very charming show, but I'm a little embarrassed to admit my primary thought about this season is "holy shit, Enver Gjokaj is distractingly attractive."

Netflix only has 2 - what channel is it on? ALso, I haven't laughed so much as I did when the mayor and his wife were beating the shit out of those two FBI agents, with a snow shovel, a frying pan, and what at one point looked like a toilet plunger. And the song was "sharing the night together".

Is Medium an actual, professional site with human editors? Mild spoilers for the first 10 minutes of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but it seems like "Mnw" is having a stroke here, and throughout the article Each are prepared to chop ties and relocate for work, although John is much extra hesitant to go away his mother than Jane is to go away her dad. It’s simple to see why the corporate would pair them up; they’ve loads in frequent, together with delinquent and “emotionally unintelligent” qualities that stored them from advancing within the discipline. John spent a while in fight, working drones in Afghanistan, and Jane nearly made the minimize for the CIA. They’ve each been in love earlier than, however solely John has ever expressed it out loud.

Donald Glover's Mr. & Mrs. Smith show on Prime is actually pretty good. He and Maya Erskine have good chemistry. The tone is great, kind of a more accessible Atlanta. I like that they took more of a The Americans set up and used that to explore the nature of a strained relationship. I would say the lacking bit is the fight choreography. It's pretty lack luster at times. I think maybe they didn't use a lot of stunt people and it shows. Glover and Erskine are not quite up to snuff on punching or gun handling. That's not really the point of it though. I've only finished the first episode, which didn't have much fighting, but it seems that not being up to snuff is part of the point, with both of them total amateurs in way over their heads. They get through the episode almost entirely through luck, plus a bit of quick thinking.

I ought to check it out, because I've always loved both of them from their Dollhouse days. Which, Whedon aside, developed into an interesting show by the end, and the whole cast was pretty great in it.

One of the frequent joys of watching BBC children's television is seeing which absolute ringer they bring in to play a part in the show, or alternatively who turns out to be a breakout star in retrospect.
My daughter's really into The Worst Witch, so we started watching the 2017-2020 BBC adaptation. Cue me going: "wait, is that Bella Ramsey?!"

Warrior is the shit. It's a violent kung fu spaghetti western that's so very over the top. It's set in 19th century San Francisco and I think is basically what Bruce Lee had wanted the original Kung Fu TV show to originally look like. The protagonist is a literally fresh off the boat from China, but unlike other FOBs he knows kung fu and starts kicking racist asses as soon as he arrives. The show has a lot about the politics around Chinese immigration at the time - the way politicians stoke working class racism at lost jobs, the way the Irish workers shit on those lower down the ladder than them, the way the rich businessmen gladly exploit the Chinese, the resentment the Chinese had against their oppression, and the gangsters and criminals who didn't give much of a shit as long as they profited. But all this is done in modern-ish language (in fact, very hip hop language), and thanks to the magic of TV we hear English when the Chinese characters are talking all funny among themselves. Did I mention the show is violent? Because it is. It's what I wanted out of Into the Badlands and damn if it doesn't deliver. If nothing else, just watch the opening, it's stylish as hell. I like the whole 70's kung fu movie poster thing. Literally FIVE YEARS behind on this, but I just finished season 1 on Netflix. This show is amazing! Only 3 seasons total before it was canceled but I'll gladly watch all of them.

Started watching My Name Is Earl with a friend last weekend on a whim and am now almost finished with the first season. I haven't seen it since it was originally on the air, so I forgot everything except the basic premise. Holy hell, it's funny. I really appreciate that they made Catalina as batshit crazy as the rest of them, instead of turning her into the Smurfette/moral compass of the group.
Makes a good counterpoint to Deadwood. I'm making my way through season 2 a bit more slowly because I'm trying to savor the experience.

After finishing Scrubs, my husband wanted another something light and funny to watch, so now we are rewatching 30 Rock. But I also have one more episode of Queer Eye, and Station 19 and Grey's Anatomy returns on Thursday (shut up, yes it's still on).

Has Grey's Anatomy taken on a more ensemble focus since Meredith left, or have they picked some new white woman to focus on? Meredith wasn't nearly as bad as Piper from OITHNB, but I found her to be the most insufferable character on the show, and was always frustrated by how much the show centered on her. As the original ensemble dribbled away, I kind of lost interest in the show, and I don't think I've watched it at all since Lexie died.

Meredith hasn't been a huge focus of the show for awhile - I think the showrunners were aware Ellen Pompeo wanted less to do in front of the camera, and she is a producer. There've been more storylines with Bailey, Jo, Amelia, Owen/Teddy, Maggie/Winston, etc. Also some new interns who are entertaining.

The Vince Staples Show, Episode 1 (2024)
This show intrigues from the get-go. Long Beach, CA is the spot where a fictionalised Vince gets into dark humourous LA doings with some Lynchian touches and definite laughs. These gents altogether certainly made their Odd Future. Worth a watch.

Watching Chernobyl, and Barry Keoghan just showed up wearing jeans, like it was a perfectly normal thing for a citizen of the USSR in 1986.
Otherwise, it’s extremely engrossing, and gives me the weirdest sort of Feeling Some Kind Of Way. I was 17 at the time & wasn’t paying attention to any news coverage of the actual event, so it’s not kicking up memories, it’s more like…poking the “we’re totally gonna get nuked one day” program of dread we all had ingrained & subconsciously running 24/7. It’s a very strange reaction.
Also the radiation sickness makeup is utterly stomach-churning.

I love when soap operas get new Head Writers, and the first day those writers are credited have two storylines airing which can be summed up as "Hey, I've suddenly realized this thing we've been doing for a while now is kinda dumb. Let's stop!"
Edited: Unrelated, but I watched the opening episode of the revamped version of "So You Think You Can Dance" which is the only reality competition show I'm still watching. They had to boot their Executive Producer due to sexual harassment allegations. Wow, this new version of it looks even more producer manipulated than before. I found episode 1 really hard to get through, as it doesn't feel remotely real any longer.
Amusingly, it did have the judges complaining that too many of the dancers are "social media" dancers who don't really know how to dance. I could see them roll their eyes when one young woman talked about her Tik Tok following. This was at least fun.
I'm also frustrated because I've learned that in these audition rounds, often times the producers are replacing the dancer's original music because they can't get clearance for tv airing of the original piece. But I saw no contestant on day one who I felt actually moved like they felt the music. Like, out of sync with the music. And I have no idea if this is a flaw of the dancers, or if the producers have replaced their music. Sigh.

Watching episode 2 of "So You Think You Can Dance" right now. Still auditions. Still heavy producer manipulation. However, the first two dancers actually were dancing to the music. So, now I don't know what was going on in episode 1. Were those a bunch of disconnected technicians, or was their music switched out with songs that didn't exactly have the same rhythm as their original ones did? Ugh, I hate it when the show is this heavily producer manipulated so you can't tell.
Edited: Okay, the majority of the people auditioning in this second episode were actually in sync with their music. So, I really hope the producers switched out the music in episode 1, because otherwise they passed through a bunch of dancers who don't feel the music.
Holy moly, though. Possibly even worse producer manipulation in this second episode. I really miss seasons 2-4 of this show. It was so fun then. Since then there have been several seasons I have skipped because the producers changed the premise. Also skipped some because I didn't like the pool of contestants. It is usually possible to tell once the audition rounds are over whether it will be a good season, based on the people they pick.
This show can really show off some high quality dancing, if run at its best. We shall see what happens this season. I'm about 50/50 on whether I'll be interested, based on the first two episodes.

I'm so glad episode 3 of the new season of Girls5Eva finally had me rolling, because the first two episodes couldn't get me above a chuckle. I still liked the characters, the whip-fast humor was all the same, it just wasn't ... hitting. Episode 3 hit!
I love this show.
