At my job we just got the assets for the complete series of Pee Wee's Playhouse, the next MST3K set, and... Hemlock Grove season 1. That last one... Well, you can just assume my level of excitement about that. You know I saw them for House of Cards too and I can't help but wonder who the hell makes up the market for DVDs of Netflix Original Series. Wouldn't anybody who gave a damn about the show already be a subscriber, and thus have instant access to the show? And it seems absurd to worry about the shows Netflix actually owns getting pulled from streaming, unlike the things it has to buy the rights for. Ah, but this way you can gift them to all your friends and family and then they might sign up for Netflix too! I'm guessing that's the reasoning.

My brother has been teasing me ever since I bought four seasons of Mad Men on dvd over the summer. It being big enough, and AMC's contract with netflix successful enough, to not likely to be removed. But I just like the feeling of physically owning shows. Which is why the impending potential of no longer having physical records of media is distressing for me.

Even though I have a good feeling Fargo will be on Netflix for Streaming, I would like to have it on DVD because I like the idea of owning the physical thing. (Plus, there are bonus features and the idea of Fargo on Blu-Ray would actually get me to invest in a Blu -Ray player because that show had gorgeous cinematography.)

I have a shitload of stuff downloaded just because I don't trust the streaming companies to not remove/impose broken DRM on stuff. Same reason as I make DRM-stripped backup copies of every Kindle book I buy. If I really love something, I get a disc copy, or make at least one spare backup. These fuckers have shown time and again we can't trust them - so, I don't.

My brother is still free to tease me that I only one have season of the show on bluray, though. Goddamnit it makes no sense to only have one.

I am watching "The Guardian" on Netflix. I find it surprisingly enjoyable, but the opening sequence is terrible.

All of the first season (maybe the 2nd season) of Orange Is The New Black is on demand on one of the free to air channels here, so I watched about 6 or 7 episodes in a row, although that's also meant I basically now have a day to catch up in my work, as I did it in the middle of the week when I actually didn't have the time to do this, so I may have to wait a week or so before getting back into it.
And possibly not smartly, I've also started watching the original, non-fuck you iteration of The Killing, which is also good and addictive.

Actually, for shows that originated on a traditional network, I totally get it. It was just the Netflix specific shows that surprised me. I mean the whole purpose of those shows existence is to drive subscribers to Netflix. Why would you make it available in a different form?

Netflix is definitely catering to the weird people who have an emotional attachment to physically owning the media they enjoy most. So, this community. (I have a friend who has Orange season 1 on DVD, and this is totally why he owns it.)

If it has commentaries from the cast, I would totally buy OITNB on DVD too.

Oh, god, guys, this year's new show list looks abysmal. I'll be watching The After and Constantine, and pretty much nothing else that's new.
EDIT: Maybe Utopia, when I'm feeling like watching the anthropological process of people trying to get along. I mean, I watched the shit out of Frontier House and Ranch House. If Fox can eek up to the high bar of PBS, I'm game.

The unimpressive fall schedule will make it easier to try and focus solely on getting through Justified on Amazon, along with keeping up with AT and GF online.

I'm going to watch Galavant, on the offchance it is awesome rather than a trainwreck. Plus, Weird Al is apparently going to be a singing monk in at least one episode, so there's that.

Tea Rex not The Flash? C'mon! But yeah, I haven't even really checked out the new shows yet. Only thing I'm really interested in is The Flash, and I just saw one small snippet today for Madam Secretary. It is on CBS, but I am a sucker for political shows and Tea Leoni. Plus I haven't heard anything about it, so maybe it is flying under the radar and won't be terrible? Oh, I will also probably watch Gotham out of curiosity and things have actually pointed to the show not being terrible, and it has Ben MacKenzie and Donal Logue going for it.

If Fox can eek up to the high bar of PBS, I'm game. I watched the first episode of Utopia, and it was way too Big Brother for my tastes (not surprising since one of the EPs is John de Mol). Also, the host sucked and it got really annoying how judgey they were that the "pioneers"didn't instantly create a paradise, like it was their fault that they were specifically picked to foment conflict. Still, it was way more entertaining than a usual Fox reality show.

Update on "The Guardian": Holy cow, this show has poorly written female characters.

I'm going to watch Selfie this fall, because Karen Gillan. John Cho and Karen Gillan? I think the only thing that will keep me from watching it is if they were trying to stab me in the face. I watched the pilot and it was terrible, but I'm in for the ride.

This week I started rewatching The Sopranos, which I basically do once a year. How is this NOT the best series ever made? This show never gets old. It's timeless.

The wife and I stumbled across the Canadian version of Masterchef playing on the Cooking channel a few nights back. I'm sure it will get bumped from our DVR as soon as fall shows start premiering, but I really hope we get to challenges like best maple syrup based dish, butchering a moose, or cooking lunch for 100 mounties before we stop watching it.

So the actor(John Carroll Lynch( who played creepy number one suspect from Zodiac will be in AHS: Freak Show as the evil killer clown. Yep, I'm actually going to watch this season, or at least try to watch this season.

I just did not enjoy the pilot, but I'm hoping it does since I can not watch something with both Cho and Gillan.

Tomorrow evening @ifwewait and I plan to watch the Simon and Marceline themed Adventure Time episodes (which he's never seen), the first five minutes of High Moon, and Jacob's Ladder for the movie club this month. It's going to be an interesting night of viewing.
