Katee Sackhoff's phone better be ringing soon... I'm hoping for Emily Blunt or Margot Robbie myself.... I respect your right to hold this completely wrong opinion.

Unpopular Opinion: Sackhoff would probably be fine, good or great even, in that role but if she was cast it would show a complete lack of imagination on Marvel's part. We already have Zoe Saldana apparently needing to be the minority female actress in every genre franchise, we now also need to limit ourselves to the same white blonde actress for any of those parts as well?

Counterpoint: Sackhoff has only been in two wide release movies and had one recurring TV role since 2010. There are very very few people (us, basically) that would think of her as uncreative casting.

Yea, but the whole reason of people pushing for her casting is on the back of her one most notable TV role. If there is a thought process behind Sackhoff for Captain Marvel beyond, "Sackhoff did very well as a blonde, woman, sci-fi pilot character in BSG; Captain Marvel is a blonde, woman pilot in a sci-fi universe that becomes a superhero; Sackhoff is obviously the best (only) choice for the part", please enlighten me on what it is. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with Sackhoff being an underappreciated actress that could use more work, as true as that may be.

Thought the character was male (thanks a lot, early 90s Marvel cards) and they were just going a different direction for the movies. That certainly tracks now.

The original Marvel Comics version of Captain Marvel was an alien male, but the current incarnation of the character, and the one the movies are planning to use, is Carol Danvers (the former Ms. Marvel). I'm not super familiar with the character, but I believe I have the basics down correctly.

As I look at the chart of the upcoming movies, my enthusiasm is waning significantly. Sure, the announcement may be a bit exciting at first, but it now seems like a laundry list of things you have to watch. It may just be easier to not watch any.
Question, though: these movies are becoming more and more interconnected, but how necessary is it going to be to watch different franchises to understand what's going on? While I appreciate the ambition, it's just annoying if this becomes a serialized TV show in the theaters. I've already seen a few examples of this, and they're even crossing over into TV. Eventually, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will become the entire universe, and in order to eat food, we will have to watch Guardians of the Iron Avengers first and listen to Zack Snyder's "Don't make your trailers too good" podcast and split ourselves into two in order to maximize our profits.

I may watch Katee Sackhoff, though.
On a more down note about casting, I just realized that Amy Adams is tied to Zack Snyder for three more movies and 4 more years.

I don't understand all the negativity. We finally get movies about stuff we want and all we do is complain. Can't we take it movie by movie and if you wanna see it, see it? If you don't, don't.

Agreed. I'm excited about all of it. If it's disappointing that's too bad*, but mostly I'm just excited to see some of my favorite stories made into movies. *However, if things are disappointing I reserve the right to complain bitterly and often, and perhaps to throw things.

I will use what I saw someone else say that pretty much nailed how I was feeling. To paraphrase: it is over saturation, and the fact it is like an assembly line. Just churn out one after the other and 10 years from now we will still be here, just because. That no matter what we will come to see these movies. It feels more like a product I should consume, rather than one I want to. And honestly the market does feel over saturated. Movies are not comic books or TV shows, the novelty of the a shared universe is wearing off. It is all just blurring together and I no longer feel excited for it.

Maybe my excitement just wears off more slowly. I'm ridiculously excited for the next Avengers. The last Captain America was great so I have high hopes for the next one. Doctor Strange should at least be interesting though I'm not pleased with the casting. GoTG will be fantastic if it's even 25% as fun as the first. I'd go on but I'm too lazy. What's not to be excited about?!

Ugh. I think the best thing for me is to just not read this thread. I'll enjoy it all on my own. And with MrsLangdonAlger.

I think taking things movie by movie here would work if everything didn't seem so similar. It's just that nothing really stands out anymore--like it used to--when you have everything planned for 5 years. That's just my opinion, and I'm sorry if I came across as negative and complaining. Just a different perspective, that's all; we're all excited about different things, and I don't mean to try to damper your excitement.

I feel like I HAVE to see them, and I don't like that. It feels dirty,at least until the movie is playing(if it is good that is).

Oversaturation? Yeah. But it's also not going to consume our lives. A lot will happen in 5 years outside of these movies. I think it just seems super overwhelming to see it all presented in such a way. I'm still excited, for me this is an opportunity to start reading comics I haven't read yet. Dr. Strange and Captain Marvel sound awesome.

I am cynical about Marvel (I think Sam Raimi's movies were more interesting), but even I rolled my eyes when the snobs at The Dissolve laughed at people cheering for the announcement that Infinity War was going to be two movies. "They're excited about having to buy two tickets!" Or maybe they're excited because a story they like is going to be a big event.

The mere fact that I can say "An Inhumans movie is coming" is more than enough to get me pumped for all this news. Add in Black Panther(!!!!) and Captain Marvel(!!!!!!!!!) movies, and good Lord have I been through the roof in terms of excitement this week. One I actually gotta say I'm really excited is Thor: Ragnarok. I love Thor, and I enjoy the fantasy atmosphere of his features (I honestly think his series of films are the most underrated in the MCU), so I can't wait to see this third installment that Kevin Fiege described as "The Winter Soldier" of the franchise. Oh man, there's so much to look forward to
What I'm trying to say is, ifwewait, ya mind if I join you and MurderLangdonAlger in eagerly anticipating these movies??

I'm going to throw my popcorn when after yelling Avengers Assemble the credits will roll and what will flash across the screen? *TO BE CONTINUED IN AVENGERS 3, PART 2!* But you'll be cheering again when in the the post credit scene they finally introduce beloved 90s hero, NFL Superpro! And finally standing on your seat jumping up and down in excitement when you learn he'll be fighting Snowflame, Marvel's greatest villain ever: Random Thought Edit: I'd like to think that 70' Snowflame and 90's NFL Superpro were actually one and the same character in the 80's.

Laughing at people for being excited about things you're not excited about is stupid, but the whole "splitting into two" trend is problematic for me, not just for these movies, but for any movies in general. Same with TV shows, although I'm sure Mad men will be fine.

I think it's more pointless when it comes to TV shows because all it does is make us wait one unnecessary year, whereas a story being told in two movies makes it seem like a big deal (on paper).

Generalhellcat's note about the two part films sounds about right to me, especially since these really is an event considering how long this Infinity Gems saga has been set up. Plus, unlike ones based on books like Twilight or Harry Potter, this is an original story, so they could find a way to avoid making it feel like two split halves of one story, instead maybe making it more like The Lord Of The Rings trilogy.

It feels more like a product I should consume, rather than one I want to. "Should"? I don't get why you feel an obligation to consume.
