I learned from a 8th grade class blind taste test that I could tell the difference between Coke and others. Pepsi is sweeter and flatter and yuck. On the trip to Georgia last week Lifemate and I went to the new World of Coke. It was an OK time, if you can tolerate that kind of self-aggrandizement. Unfortunately it did not have my favorite thing from the old World of Coke, which I spotted ten years ago while still an active fencer: God I wish I had this as a framed print. ETA: I actually just found it on a postcard on ebay. That will have to do.

I tried Coke Zero's replacement today. Coke Zero Sugar tastes empty and dusty, for lack of a better word. You know that zip it had that made it taste like Old, Real Coke? Totally gone. If it tastes like anything else, it tastes like that empty husk of a drink, caffeine-free diet Coke.

Coke is overall the superior product, although to really kick Pepsi's ass it has to be drunk from a can. Out of a 2L bottle they're nearly interchangeable.

I'm just not a fan of colas. Sprite, however, is far superior to Sierra Mist.

But for sure it's not the same. And not as good.

I've had several discussions with friends as to why this is an exceedingly stupid move. half of them are convinced it's a "New Coke" situation and they're gonna bring back the old Coke Zero formula in a year or two.

I was a die hard Coke Zero guy (and when feeling especially pious Cherry Coke Zero) but I've read enough studies now to show that colas of any kind, as well as the artificial sweeteners they use, seem to have all kinds of unpleasant long term effects. I figure if I'm going to consume something that could harm me, I'm not going to fill up that slot with diet soft drinks. So I pretty much quit cold turkey and have been drinking flavoured sparkling waters (which I'm sure will have studies coming out proving they'll give me brain cancer or something, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.) But i digress. Pepsi always tasted kinda watery or "weak" to me.
