Please add 311's cover of "Love Song" by the Cure. Not linking because it's shit.

R.E.M.'s cover of Paint It, Black. It starts off really good, but then Stipe forgets the words, and pulls out a harmonica for some reason (which isn't even in the right key), and it all collapses into a total clusterfuck.
Growing up in NYC, I used to listen to Dave Herman's show on WNEW-FM, which had a sample of the announcer going "C'mon Dave Herman, play us some rock & roll!". I was listening to the show one morning, and they played Frankie Goes To Hollywood's cover of Born To Run. About 30 seconds into the song, the announcer cut in "C'mon Dave Herman, take that song off the radio!" Listening to it again just now, it's not as execrable as I remembered it. It's not good, but it's not "take it off the radio" terrible.

Oh for the sake of Christ - this fucking cover has 37 MILLION VIEWS on youtube sorry you guys, but I really can't stand Guns N Roses. Just awful. This has been covered by so many bands, and local cover bands (to boot), that it almost seems pointless to make a distinction of what makes a good version of the song compared to others. Television does a good cover by making it their own -- it's weirdly arty with unusual rhythmic start-stops that make you consider the beauty of the composition in and of itself, and not the sentiment behind the lyrics, which is all too much the focus of every cover otherwise. Guns N' Roses: "Doow-wah-ohh-wah. Heyah. Heyah. Heyah-heyah-heyah" counts as Axle being 'real.' Fuck Guns N' Roses forever, and fuck this, and their cover of "Live and Let Die."

Do you think Holly Johnson & co were attempting a reverent tribute to a song that would resonate with Scousers, or something else?

I'm particularly disappointed that he left out the weird outro rant. Is he scared that he wouldn't be able to kick Marilyn Manson's ass in if MM answered the call out?

For crying out loud, is there anything more pointless than this? Take the original, then remove all the stomping power, clean it up with a bit less distortion, a bit more reverb, screw up the main guitar lick in some little way - is there an extra note in there? - sing it with a total lack of personality, slow it down and remove the nutty guitar coda.
I kept waiting for it to do something surprising - Where's that fat, agile Entwistle bass sound? Maybe he'll do a solo! Maybe there will be some neat horns! Maybe Pete will drop in some power chords! - but NOTHING happens. Blech.

This offends me so much because it's basically exactly the same, but without the, I don't know, passion? Like it seems silly to say that Tom Cochrane of all people is soulful, but the original song was exciting in every way that this song isn't. This sounds like a halfway competent bar band is doing a halfway competent job and there's nothing specifically wrong with it, which is exactly why it is THE WORST.

This was already a preposterously rote cover of the Johnny Cash version, but then he literally sings "John, go do my will" instead of "Brian" or "Marilyn?" Fuck off out of here with that

There is an absence in this thread. The good thing about this one is you don't need to stab yourself in the earhole, the song does it for you!
Jesus I fucking hate it. What did Dolly do to deserve this?

This fucking sucks. Courtesy of the new cover album from the drummer of System Of A Down (?!?! !??), this track features M Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold on vocals, Tom Morello on guitar and some other, less notable dopes doing other, less notable things. The Darkness version of this that I've posted before on the other covers thread shits all over this.

A little late perhaps, but I remember a contemporary review of G'n'Rs version of "Live And Let Die" which stated that, "it really takes something to take the spunk out of a Paul McCartney song". Yup.
For myself I would like to nominate this absolute piece of shit cover of an absolute piece of shit original.

Not. Worse. Not, let me be clear, redeemable in any single way. But not worse. Idk, proley...the only real sin Phil commits is singing the song - the production and instrumentation is almost identical to the original 60s single, save for a change in sound fidelity and blown out stereophonics.
James, though....he does everything wrong.
