I've never lived anywhere remotely near an Ikea, at least that I'm aware of, and had never been to one before I was well into my thirties. The closest ones are still around four hours away. We'll sometimes go there when we're somewhere that has one, but furniture is just not an option for us. We mainly buy food. I quite like the seafood spreads. Food? Having never been in an Ikea, all this talk of European play areas for children and what I can only assume are food courts of some kind were confusing enough, but grocery-type food too? Is Ikea more like a Walmart than a furniture store? They are primarily furniture and home goods, but have a play area for kids, a snack bar, assorted random groceries, and a cafeteria area with cheap reasonably good food. They are large, 2 to 3 story stores.

Not a real doctor, I laughed at your comment, then I realized that I must really complain about HGTV shows a lot. And yet I still watch!

Recently found out that Calvin Harris and Billie Jean King are white after spending years thinking they were black. Watching Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party yesterday, I discovered Jason Derulo is black, and not a white country singer.

Based on names I assume there's an alternate universe where he is, and based on name alone Keith Urban is known as part of the early 90's New Jack genre.

I thought he was a 90s pop version of Jason Mraz!! ...Also how is Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party?

DJ Khaled. Why is he a thing? What does he do? Is he an actual DJ or is it just his initials, like DJ Tanner? Why is there a 17 minute interview with him on NPR.org today?

This one I am kind of embarrassed by (unlike the other stuff I've posted here). I've never seen a single frame of the Mary Tyler Moore Show. Nor any of its spinoffs (was there more than one?) I was reminded of this recently for obvious reasons. Everyone talks about how great it is, including artists I respect a ton, but it's a complete pop culture blind spot for me. The last show aired a year and a half before I was born, and I was too young to catch it on heavy rotation for re-runs. But I have seen shows that came before that (I Love Lucy, Mayberry, etc.) so I don't know how I missed that one, but there you go.

It's possible I saw it and just wasn't sophisticated enough to find it funny when Lucy was stuffing chocolates in her face on channel 4. I just don't recall it at all.

Who PewDiePie is, or how you even say that. Does it rhyme with Cutie Pie? Or is it like Cue Rye Lye? Actually, you know what, don't tell me. I really don't want to know. The fact that the guy has made more money in the last six months then I've made in the last sixty six is all I need to know. And I wish I could somehow unknow that.

In case anyone besides Pastafarian is wondering, it does rhyme with "cutie pie". Other than that I know almost nothing about him except that he is apparently anti-Semitic and Disney cut him off.

I'm glad Pastafarian asked about pronunciation because it's vexed me also. And yeah, based on what I've read at TOC, I think Ben Grimm's right. When I get frustrated with my students for not being able to do things like "take a screenshot" or "use google to figure out how to take a screenshot" and I'm like "you use this technology all fucking every day, how do you remain so bad at using your devices?" and it turns out they're doing things like "watching pewdiepie videos and dimly laughing like idiots."

Now I am even more angry, Pew and Die have very distinct pronunciations! and they aren't poo and dee! Maybe he chose to change how "Pew" is pronounced because it rhymes with Jew.

My 12-year-old brother in law barely watches TV; he watches ESPN and YouTube videos. Mostly videos of Minecraft or other gaming. And he plays sports-related video games. He does not have his own phone (though he does have an iPad and his own TV/cable/PS4 hookup). Woe to us when he discovers the opposite (or same?) sex.
