Is...is the Joker movie my most anticipated movie for the rest of 2019? No one tell Star Wars. I have this itch in the back of my mind that this is going to end up being some veiled incel wish fulfillment that doesn't do enough to discredit the psychotic protagonist. Like, what if Joaquin's character from The Master were presented as a laudable revolutionary? Will it be the new Fight Club? Shit, I'll defend Fight Club the movie but I can't defend its many misguided fans.

Let's just all vow not to believe Soderbergh the next time he says he's "retired".

Please don't put Jesse Pinkman back in a cage. I would cry.

Digital de-aging is allowing baby boomers to stay in the work force far past retirement and preventing millennial actors from getting work in Scorcese mob-films. I'm looking forward to the movie, but the digital de-aging made the actors look like they were characters in a really expensive video game or that CGI Final Fantasy movie from a while back.

Knowing Todd Phillips was the director really should have dampened my excitement earlier. There's a pretty negative review of it at Vox, which makes it sound like everything I was afraid it would be.
David Erlich's review: "Itโs also a toxic rallying cry for self-pitying incels, and a hyper-familiar origin story so indebted to โTaxi Driverโ and โThe King of Comedyโ that Martin Scorsese probably deserves an executive producer credit."
Ugh, that's not my thing at all.
But honestly, I am just not very interested in hearing a backstory for the Joker in general. I like him being mysterious and unknowable. I certainly am not interested in giving him sympathy or even pathos. Definitely not interested in a film that wants me to feel sorry for creepy incels.

I love the idea of taking a superhero movie and making it as a 70s and 80s crime thriller. Just having it be centered around a villain with no superhero in sight..... that's just dumb.

If they are taking inspiration from Taxi Driver though, who was the hero in that film? Btw, love the new avatar pic.

The Joker character works so well because of Batman.

The Joker character works so well because of Batman. Well, they're both just stories, I'm not sure that there's an appreciable difference between a story told in a comic book vs a novel or a screenplay. They have three acts, a rise, a fall, a climax, etc. But you might be right about the Joker working so well because Batman is there as a counter, and without him the story is unbalanced. I don't know. I'm curious enough to watch it, I'll let you know what I think when I do.

Wow, this is a great trailer. It looks so good. It has Skinny Pete and Badger in it. The cinematography looks like it will be just as good as the series and.....
Oh my GOD, Vince Gilligan, PLEASE DON'T KILL JESSE!

I think Rian Johnson crafted this movie especially for me. Darkly comedic Old Manor murder mystery? Starring Daniel Craig doing a ridiculous accent as the famous sleuth. With Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Michael Shannon and Toni Collette....
This is perfectly crafted for me. Hoping I can squeeze it into my insanely busy Thanksgiving weekend.

When Frank Walsh (Nicolas Cage), a hunter and collector of rare and exotic animals, bags a priceless white jaguar for a zoo, he figures itโll be smooth sailing to a big payday. But the ship bearing Frankโs precious cargo has two predators caged in its hold: the cat, and a political assassin being extradited to the U.S. After the assassin breaks free โ and then frees the jaguar โ Frank feverishly stalks the shipโs cramped corridors in hot pursuit of his prey, right up until the thrilling, unpredictable climax.

This movie had a very interesting development: some photographers were following Nic Cage around on his day-to-day life, and just filmed what happened. Later, they dubbed over his name with "Frank Walsh" and released it as a movie.

New "The Grudge" film! The previous American remake was one of the creepiest things I'd seen at the time, so I welcome another version.

I get the sense Guy Ritchie is kind of passe, but I still think of Snatch fondly, so think I'll enjoy this one as a goofy action comedy. Plus, Hugh Grant seems to be stretching his befuddled Englishman wings a bit, and look, there's Kendal Roy!

I was skeptical when they delayed their finished movie to completely redo the animation, but it does look a lot better.
