Eazy-E's favorite movie was a 1990 Lou Diamond Phillips thriller called The First Power. Today I remembered that this was a movie that existed. Totally forgot about it, but I probably had it recorded on a super long play VHS and watched it several times. Hmm, have to add it to the download queue.

Today I learned that one of my cousins (who I haven't seen since he was a little kid) is a rodeo champion. He was always a good kid, and all he ever wanted to be was a cowboy, and now he has been ranked in the top thirty rodeo cowboys worldwide. I think that's pretty cool.

TIL if your pill is scored, it means that the medication is evenly distributed throughout the pill and you can safely split the pill to take half.

There were two Cricket Clubs made up solely of authors from the 1890s to WWI. The Authors Cricket Club was the more talented of them, and featured as two of its best players Arthur Conan Doyle and AA Milne. JM Barrie, who was on the team but considerably less talented, formed a second club intended for players more on his level, called the Allahakbarries, combining the phrase "Allah Akbar" (which he thought meant "Heaven help us") with his last name. That team included HG Wells, PG Wodehouse, GK Chesterson, and several others who were better writers than cricket players.
I don't know why, but the whole thing sort of delights me.

Katrina vanden Heuvel, publisher and co-owner of The Nation, has had quite a life story. At 18, she was on a plane hijacked by an individual/group allegedly seeking the release of Rudolph Hess and Sirhan Sirhan (she wrote about the experience in the Washington Post). While attending Princeton, one of her first media jobs was interning at the National Lampoon of all things. She was married to Stephen Cohen, a historian whose work is sometimes credited with inspiring Gorbachev to pursue perestroika, until his death in 2020. She currently serves on the think-tank Council on Foreign Relations and is criticized by some for coddling Russia's imperialism, particularly her advocacy against expanding NATO.

There was an actual anti-gay propaganda film released in 1992 called "The Gay Agenda." I had NO IDEA that was an actual thing and not just a phrase someone invented.

I keep meaning to start this thread. TIL that minor league baseball instituted a rule that in extra inning games each team starts the inning with a player on second base. I guess the idea is to speed up the end of the game, but since it impacts both teams evenly, it certainly did not help speed it up in the game I was at (both teams just scored 1). I left after 11 innings, because I have to work tomorrow. Opened the thread onto the first page and what a future-relevant fact to start with

I'm taller than Quinta Brunson. You would think, "Well, why is this a big deal? Quinta Brunson is 4'11". Everybody is taller than Quinta Brunson!"
I am 5'0". I am never taller than ANY full-grown adult.

I am never taller than ANY full-grown adult. I am always surprised when I find out actors’—heights. It’s dumb but because of movies I just think they’re all something like seven feet tall (even Steven Yuen—who I’ve seen on stage—is only an inch taller than me but I still think of him as bigger). With actresses it’s especially weird, like “she’s that height, the height of one of my ex-girlfriends? I’ve dated people her size? How is that possible?”

Hopefully this makes things safer for my son, who, no kidding, was pulled over on the interstate in Texas for not signaling a lane change EARLY ENOUGH. Anything that gives cops fewer excuses for a stop can only be a good thing.

The Business & Professional Services industry focuses on companies that provide services mainly to other corporate entities or public bodies. We are a broad industry, spanning a number of sectors, including Professional Services, Human Capital Services, Business Services and Infrastructure Services. Probably tax avoidance solutions, etc.

Martin Scorsese is three days older than Joe Biden. Which one of these is beloved of the terminally online, and which should be evaluated primarily by his age? I can't remember, maybe I'm getting old too.

I just learned today that my father so rarely gets a song stuck in his head that it's an event worth commenting on. Apparently, Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" is the song in question.
And today my father learned that I never don't have a song or even sometimes just a phrase stuck in my head.

No, but the Petticoat Junction dog played the lead role in the 1970s children's film "Benji," which co-starred the guy who played Uncle Joe. For a more contemporary TV dog gets the lead role in a movie fact, the dog from Frasier played the title role in the 2000 children's film "My Dog Skip", which incidentally makes him degree from Kevin Bacon.

A horrifying 92% of trucking companies in the U.S. have no safety rating whatsoever from the federal government. It's because of how frequently they change names or merge.
