Kawaii as Fuck is here! I'm worried about the kinjapocolypse and don't want to lose touch with you all, at least here my avatar is no longer so small, so that's nice. Hey, I remember you from when I used to comment as well! Hope that's... not weird

Hi all, yet another Kinjapocalypse refugee here. I was more of a lurker on the AV Club, and I probably won't post all that much here either, but I'll always be in the background... reading everything you say, ever. Nice to meet you all!

Welcome all the new people! Feel free to poke around and explore. We're expecting something of an influx, in light of the impending death of The Old Country.

Hi all, yet another Kinjapocalypse refugee here. Me too! If only there were some metaphor for creatures leaving a sinking ship! Anyway, hi everyone. I'm Louiebb, your run-of-the-mill commenter who's been around for a while. Not a lurker, not Dikachu-level either. Probably the most memorable thing I wrote was a top-rated comment on a TV Club review. Other than that, just liked engaging with others over there. And now I'm here! I've always had the same handle on the AVC, but I'm very much debating porting it over to Kinja just for their crap commenting. I never made my Disqus profile private, but kind of like that I could, and since my real name's pretty similar to my handle, I probably should stop playing with fire. So. Glad to see there are a couple of places for those who love the community that was and are sad to see it go.

Hi, I'm another refugee!
My commenting on the AVClub tends to be sporadic--and usually on posts long after everyone else has moved on--but I was mainly there for the commenters. Since everyone is fleeing, I figured I'd join in.

I'm just going to post my intro from the AVClub after Dark place. I can be lazy like that.
Brodes standing by. In Australia.
I think it was Farscape reviews that made me start actually commenting on the AVClub, and it's kind of impressive watching the whole site crumble the way it did.
Everyone else is giving out so much more information! I live with my partner of ten years, we can't get married because our country is way behind on the equality thing, I have many varied tastes. Like insane tastes. Like I can happily watch Paw Patrol and then switch to Twin Peaks or Game of Thrones. Big gamer, though having been very poor for a while and not recovered from being massively robbed a few years ago, means I'm mostly on the Nintendo side of things or classic side (read: emulation) of things at the moment. Comics, toys, all that. I enjoy getting high. I really do. I have a massive playlist of American Dad, Malcolm in the Middle, Robot Chicken, Scrubs, Super Sentai, Raising Hope, Don't Trust the Bitch, Arrested Development, Power Rangers, Transformers, Adventure Time, We Bare Bears and others for when I am doing so.
Um. Yeah. Not sure I've made enough of an impact for people to recognise me. That might be for the best. I don't know.

Yay! Two Australians! We finally have a replacement if Opp breaks. Make that three Australians. Other than that, just another AVC lurker, who wanted to run out of that burning building about 3 weeks after it collapsed. I'll probably never comment again, so byeeeeeeeee.

The plebiscite's a non-starter, sadly. It's a hundreds of millions of dollars opinion poll that isn't even binding, and all the other parties oppose it because it's a ludicrously expensive exercise in political procrastination. Malcolm Turnbull's just a sell-out being held hostage by the conservative wing of his party.

Hi all. Maybe you recognize me from the A.V. Club (I hope it survives) and maybe you don't. Either way, here I am.
I enjoy people, places, and things.

Hi all,
Long-time lurker (5 or 6 years, I think) who was just on the verge of making a Disqus account and starting to comment when the Kinja bullshit came a-stormin' in, so I figured I might as well start an account here. I know several Simpsons quotes and am generally a maladjusted weirdo, so I figure I'll do all right here!
EDITED TO ADD:
I should probably add some more stuff about myself, so here goes: I'm a college student from Minneapolis going into my senior year at a liberal arts college out East, where I'm studying history and creative writing. The A.V. Club's been my favorite website since early in high school, and I'm really fucking sad to see the whole Kinja thing happen, especially since it's not even the staff's choice. My taste in music runs about a year or two behind the times, so I'm currently really digging Pinegrove, Courtney Barnett, and Julien Baker. I just finished Lincoln in the Bardo, which might be the best book I've read in two or three years. I'm currently watching (e.g., in the middle of an episode of) WHAS: Ten Years Later, which frankly isn't as much of a disappointment as some people are making it out to be, although I may be biased since I just finished the Mitch's-road-trip sequence. I'm also a fan of 30 Rock, Arrested Development, BoJack Horseman, Other Space, The Sopranos, Mad Men, Lady Dynamite, and am really, really enjoying the current Twin Peaks revival. I'm a pretty nice person, too, I think!

Howdy. Incitatus here; current AVC user hedging his bets. I don't even know the difference between "shouting" and a "quick reply," so hopefully this is the right way to post. It's like new-to-middle-school anxiety all over again! But cheers, anyplace with lots of AVC expats has my preliminary goodwill.

It's like new-to-middle-school anxiety all over again! But cheers, anyplace with lots of AVC expats has my preliminary goodwill. Welcome to the TIF! For you and any other new people who may be a little unsure of how posting works on the site, Quick Reply just lets you type out a post and post it right there, but you actually have to type out formatting commands yourself if you want to do any formatting beyond putting a space between paragraphs. But if you click on "Reply" in the upper right-hand corner of a page of posts, or you quote another post, you get sent to a "Create Post" page where you can format your reply a bit more easily (granted, stuff like bold, italics, and underlining aren't too much of a hassle to begin with, as they're the same as the commands on the AVC, only in square brackets instead of...those greater than less than brackets). "Shouting"refers to the Shoutbox, which I believe Proboards intended as a way for users to communicate about site maintenance issues without needing to post, but which has pretty much functioned as a chatroom since the inception of the site. Feel free of course to join in the Shoutbox if you wish (although of course one is not required to join in Shoutbox conversations to be accepted on the site, as there are plenty of longtime users of the site who almost never or never use the Shoutbox). Another thing that I would note to any new people, is that there will possibly be established users making jokes which on their face may seem critical of the idea of new users, and this may be more common in the Shoutbox, where most of the users know each other's comic sensibilities pretty well by now, and I would say that the vast majority of such jokes are almost certainly just that, facetious jokes, but I think people can tend to forget that tone is hard to convey over the internet, especially to people with whom one is not acquainted, and so if a joke does come across as uninviting, I would say that it's probably not worth letting it scare you off from continuing to comment on the forum, or even to join in Shoutbox conversations. We're generally not that big of assholes on this site. Another noteworthy function that may not be immediately obvious is tagging people by putting an @ in front of their username, so if I remove the space in @ incitatus, it becomes Incitatus. It's definitely worth keeping in mind though, that many users (myself included) have a display name quite different from their actual username, which can be found by hovering one's cursor over the display name. Display names can be changed by clicking on "Profile" in the menu at the top of your screen then clicking on "Edit Profile", and then clicking on the "Personal" Tab. This is also where you can update your status (the lines of text that appear beneath a user's avatar), and signature (which appears at the bottom of a user's posts). I imagine this primer is probably overkill, but given the different formats and user interface between the AVC/Disqus and here, I figured it may be helpful to some of the many new people who've joined in the last day (especially the bit about the difference between display names and usernames, which iirc has confused several new people in the past).

Hey everyone.
Some of you probably know me (hopefully know me) from the Mothership. I've decided to beat the rush and migrate over before the stampeding hordes from the Kinjapocalypse catch up. Still getting this account set up the way I like it, too.
You'll probably see me hanging around on the comics boards, if the old Big Issues/Comics Panel community makes its way over here.
