Ha, toronto is 3-12 and Bautista just struck out 4 times in a game. I think I dislike them more than the Yanks at this point, and am glad public opinion seems to have soured on Bautista.

Yesterday the DBacks had a 9 run inning vs the Dodgers and won 13-5. Today the Rockies beat the Giants 12-3, and the Dbacks beat the Dodgers 11-5.
Nothing better than seeing the Giants and Dodgers get blown out.
Kenta Maeda gave up 4 home runs to the DBacks in the game tonight.
So far, the NL Central and East seem pretty rational. Not sure what is going on in the NL West. Are the Dbacks and Rockies actually good? Are the Dodgers really mediocre? Do the Giants have any pitching? Shrug.

Well, we just shutout the Giants 8-0 in our 'juiced ball bullshit' stadium (to quote Tim Lincecum, still hate you bb) with our rookie 5th pitcher going 7 innings.
NL West is getting flipped on its head and it's been a long time coming.
Nationals this week for the Rockies, but we somehow lucked out of missing facing Strasburg and Scherzer.

Glad to see the Cub's bats finally warming up. Hopefully we can figure out the other issues soon... I was really happy to see the Cubs punish the Reds for a couple of games. The Reds broadcast did that "funny" segment where they pointed out "bandwagon" Cubs fans. It ticked me off. First of all, these Cubs fans have been showing up at that park for ages. We all know the Cubs draw fans in every city. It was like this well before they ever won the World Series. Also, having the team broadcast insult paying fans seems super tacky to me. I didn't find this funny at all. Was very thankful for Rizzo & co for dropping a whole lot of runs on them.

Prior to last October, no Cubs fans ever showed up to see them play at any other park. And this stupid segment got shared on my Twitter feed, and it was on MLB's main page for a while! Aw, adorable! Let's insult opposing fans! Look, even if they were bandwagon fans, this still wouldn't be cute and funny. But calling Cubs fans "bandwagon fans" is ludicrous.

I think that particular meme probably got started when the Chicago Blackhawks went from being hot garbage for a decade (with hilariously bad attendance ratings, if I remember correctly) to being a powerhouse with Kane and Toews and all the fans were suddenly like 'Original Six bro' 'Chelsea Dagger' etc. Chicago travels really well in opposing stadiums in all sports (except the White Sox, wah wah) so I can understand a bit of the backlash because that does get old... calling Cubs fans 'bandwagoners' a year after they broke their generations-spanning curse is a bit far though. Give them a couple more championships then we can legitimately rag on them like we do with the Red Sox now. Edit: Blame the Stars

Thames hit 2 HR today, now leading the league. Ha! Didn't see that coming.
Rockies beat the Nats. Ha! Rockies just keep winning!
Giants finally win a game, but it's against the struggling Dodgers.
Lovullo gives Goldschmidt a night off, moves Chris Owings into 3rd in the batting order. Owings hits his first career grand slam in the 5th. Moves Hermann to 1st base, Hermann gets an RBI. DBacks score 7 runs without Goldschmidt in the lineup and Lovullo now looks like a genius.
Rockies and Dbacks, still winning! Definitely not looking forward to the Dbacks trip to Coors Field next weekend. That park is a House of Horrors for the Dbacks. Hoping the Dbacks and Rockies split those upcoming 6 games against each other. And then the Giants and Dodgers keep losing.

The Dbacks - Rockies game on Sunday was probably the most insane game I've witnessed in many years. Almost nothing that happened in it made any sense.
Rockies inexplicably couldn't hit at all. Even against some questionable DBacks pitchers.
Rockies and DBacks combined for approximately 800 strikeouts.
DBacks manager decided to sit 3 of the top 5 players on the bench to start the game and kept doing that, even when the score was 0-0 and the DBacks came up in the bottom of the 9th.
Bottom of the 10th featured one of the all time worst umpire calls I have ever seen. Not balls/strikes, but a call on a play in the field. It looked ridiculous in real time, and then on replay looks absolutely outrageous. Not reviewable, of course. Even though replay would have clearly shown that the umpire was wrong. No, I'm sorry. The 2nd base umpire made the correct call. The play happened right in front of him. Then he was overruled by the home plate umpire who obviously didn't see what happened.
Are you kidding me with this, MLB? If this had happened to the Yankees, Red Sox or Cubs, MLB officials would be on tv right now apologizing and promising to review the rules/umpiring/replay system.
That could have actually cost the DBacks the game. Seriously, I want a public response from MLB.
Anyway, and then the worst pitcher in the bullpen throws 3 clean innings. And then freaking Daniel Descalso hits a walkoff HR. Because of course.
And now the DBacks get to go to Washington to play the Nationals! Who scored 23 runs today. Woooo!
Will the Dbacks pitching staff survive the coming 3 games? Tune in!

If it was any other player than Machado, even bautista of all people, I would feel something for being thrown at twice. But considering that Machado has shown to be a dirty piece of shit many times before, ehhhhh.

We just finished a 4-game series with the Nats this week before playing y'all, so - here's some oppo research for you- Enjoy!! A lot of Dbacks fans are still talking about Sunday's game. Seriously, why the hell did any of that happen? Why??? Even in today's game thread over at SB Nation the DBacks fans were still talking about that blown call in the 10th. So far we've heard nothing from MLB. But, that blown call did catch the attention of SI, at least. I'd like MLB to announce some umpire fines. And I wouldn't mind hearing about a fine issued to LeMahieu. Dude, it is not okay to deliberately initiate contact with a runner. NOT OKAY. (We're all a bit touchy over Pollock's health, okay?) Is MLB seriously okay with this? "Sure, why even try making a play on the batted ball? Instead just go shove the runner, then blame him for interference and get him called out!" Hello? MLB? Really?? Anyway, I really thought when the Dbacks brought in Delgado to pitch that the Rockies would pummel him and the game would swiftly end. I am mystified as to why the Rockies didn't score off him. Moving on, today's game vs the Nationals was awful to watch, but the Dbacks actually won! I'm calling winning 1 of these 3 games a major victory. DBacks limited the Nats to 3 runs. Pretty good! And sorry to be umpire bashing, but better to bash umpires when you win than when you lose, eh? At least I can't be accused of being a sore loser. So, the umpiring in Game 1 vs the Nationals was AWFUL. I had GameDay open for the first 4 innings, but I had to close it down. It was excruciating. There was no discernible strike zone. Pitches in the zone getting called Balls, out of the zone getting called Strikes. Sometimes pitches in the same location was a strike on pitch 1 then a ball on pitch 2! Saw several strikes called on pitches that were outside where he had just called balls! This wasn't just against the Dbacks. The Nats pitcher, Roark, was also getting screwed pretty badly. This resulted in nearly half the hitters in the game going to a 3-ball count. Both pitchers were over 100 pitches in the 5th inning. Walks, walks and more walks. Saw multiple innings end on Called strike 3 that was not really a strike. Saw hitters get issued walks on pitches inside the strike zone. Baker let Roark get to 120 pitches just to get through the 6th inning. Lovullo had to pull Walker at 4 2/3rd innings because he was at 117 pitches. These are not pitchers who struggle with command. In conclusion: #RobotUmpsNow

Well, 2 games with the Nationals down and 1 to go. So far, the pitching has held up! The hitting.... meh. Game 1: Dbacks 6 - Nationals 3 - W Game 2: Dbacks 1 - Nationals 2 - L That's actually okay! What's not okay? The DBacks treatment by MLB umpires! Yes, more umpire bashing! No, I'm not complaining about tonight's game, which was actually fine. Update: Crew chief Jerry Layne who blew that interference call in Sunday's DBacks/Rockies game has been MIA for the past 2 games. (Didn't check tonight.) DBacks fans are wondering if he's been suspended? It'd be great if MLB would make a public announcement about this. Anyway, DBacks fans have been complaining pretty loudly this season about the uptick in crappy calls. I mean, ball/strike calls. That interference call on Sunday was a whole different story. One of the posters at the Dbacks SB Nation blog decided he'd take a look through pitching data to find out if our complaints are justified or whether it's all in our heads. This guy used the @majorleagueump twitter account to track blown call data for all the teams. www.azsnakepit.com/2017/5/3/15527604/comparing-balls-strikes-calls-all-mlb-teams-umpire-blown-callsSurprise, surprise! The Dbacks are actually the team most hurt by blown calls. Ha! We're not whining! We're justified! And guess which team has been helped the most? Shocker: The Dodgers The Phillies actually have the worst ratio of blown calls against:blown calls for, but the Dbacks come in 2nd place. I love the guy who compiled this! He also took a look at each DBacks pitcher to see if he could spot a trend there. No! Actually, most DBacks pitchers are being HELPED by the blown calls. (Except Archie Bradley.) In the comments, after someone asked for it, he then posted the breakdowns for the DBacks hitters. Ouch. Every single player is negative. Every player has more blown calls against than for. Except Chris Hermann, who is 0-0. This is a fantastic piece of data crunching. Hoping to see this done at the end of the season where we should be able to better separate signal from noise.

With all this talk about banning racist fans at fenway, it is making me wonder how bans are actually enforced at ballparks. I haven't been to a MLB game since I was a kid, do they check the ID of every person entering the park, and if so is there some kind of efficient way to check if that person is banned? Not like security will know these people, and these racist shitheads can easily get tickets from a third party. So what is actually keeping them out?

Well, the DBacks can now leave DC.
End result wasn't too bad, all things considered. The Nationals didn't blow them away.
Game 1: Dbacks 6, Nats 3 Game 2: Dbacks 1, Nats 2 Game 3: Dbacks 2, Nats 4
So, they only gave up 9 runs over the 3 games. I'll take it. Especially considering Rendon drove in 10 all by himself on Sunday.
I'm a bit more concerned about the lack of offense in these games. Gio Gonzalez did not have any command in Game 2, but the Dbacks couldn't do anything. They were walked 7 times and could only score 1 run. That is worrisome.
The media was saying this morning that several players on the team have the flu. Saying they're having trouble staying hydrated and feel very weak. Some of the better hitters have been out of the lineup the last few games.
I really hope that was the problem. But the DBacks have been lackluster on offense on the road all season so far.
It did get me wondering: How many of your players have to be ill before it becomes an actual problem? Like, can you call up MLB and say, "Is there any way we can postpone this game because my clubhouse now resembles The Walking Dead?"

Most likely call ups and short ass contracts. An illness would just be treated like any other physical ailment.

Most likely call ups and short ass contracts. An illness would just be treated like any other physical ailment. Call ups would require the 15 day DL. And possibly options. DBacks were playing with 4 starters so sick they could barely stand up. As in, they had no bench. Was wondering what would have happened if that had been 6 players that ill? Drury actually tried to play on Wednesday and looked horrible. Didn't have the energy to make plays on defense. Could barely swing the bat. He was kept on the bench the next day. Peralta was out at least a couple days. Owings was out yesterday. I don't know. It was just an idle curiosity. The Dbacks just played the game as if they had no bench. Everyone was back in today. Seriously guys, we know how to prevent the flu from spreading. Take better precautions. Coaches should have been more aware of this.

Oh look, it's the Rockies. Again.
Sometimes it feels like the Dbacks are always playing the Rockies.
In other news, wow, did the Cubs blow that game. Come on, Cubbies. No one wants to see the Yankees win.
Also, when I last checked, the Giants had walked 12 Reds in tonight's game. 12!
