Darvish to... Dodgers. Better he go to the NL instead of the AL. As a Rangers fan, it sucks, but as we were going nowhere this year, it's for the best to start focusing on 2018 and beyond. In 2014, we had the worst record in baseball. In 2015, we won the division. No reason we can't do that next year.

Sigh. Of course. Gotta start hoping this DBacks team can still be good next season. After that and they lose control of Paul Goldschmidt.

Not with their current owner. Still one of the lowest payrolls. No way they will be able to keep Goldschmidt.

I would be a bit more optimistic about them paying a stud everyday player after they dumped THAT much cash into a just-past-his-prime Greinke.

The Rockies and Diamondbacks have more wins than all but 3 teams, and they are 14 and 14.5 games back of the Dodgers. That is insane.

Is it wrong that Im glad Monty isn't here for this? Like I dont mind the dodgers at all, I actually really like clayton kershaw and now they have yu darvish who is cool too. I would be completely cool with them taking the whole thing. But I can't imagine how insufferable it would be if monty was fanboying it up.

He flew like six feet through the air Ugh, that looks bad. They're saying hyperextended knee. He'd be real lucky if that's all it is. Hoping that's right. I want Goldschmidt to win the MVP, but not like this, damn it!

While I've read all the books years ago, I've only seen the show through the third season and I know the show has already passed anything GRRM has published or possibly even put to pen. So I don't know the context of the linked scene and which group is fighting whom in the linked clip. But I'd be curious to know so I can make shitty jokes about the Mets' negligent training staff and Sandy Alderson's inability to deal Asdrubal Cabrera, Jay Bruce or Curtis Granderson for needed prospects last month. Thor gettin' torched

Sorry to see Granderson go, but it was a) inevitable, and b) I'm glad for him. Plus it means I'd now have a clear favorite to at least win the NL (possibly win it all, though still leaning more towards the Astros). With the major exception of one piece of shit bench player (no prizes for guessing whom), there's no one on the Dodgers I dislike and I do like Dave Roberts.
Since he's both a free agent after the season, and is obviously going to be a baseball lifer in some capacity, I wouldn't mind if the Mets signed him on as a player-manager, which baseball hasn't really had since Pete Rose in the mid-80's. Of course the Coupons will likely keep on Terry Collins though.

I think the dodgers broke any sense I had for baseball. I just can't fathom this.

I sincerely hope the Dodgers get swept in the first round. That's the only ending that makes sense now.
Everyone knew the DBacks had a brutal August schedule. And everyone was right! Ugh, this has been horrible. So glad they have the Mets now.

I think the dodgers broke any sense I had for baseball. I just can't fathom this. I forget which particular show I heard it discussed on (it was one of the CBS Sports talk shows, which tend to be far less blowhardy than ESPN or Fox), but someone was talking about how insane it was that the Dodgers aren't even the second biggest topic on such shows now.

People saying 61 is still the home run record, lol. Sorry Stanton, you are not gonna be HR King.

Watching the Brewers-Dodgers game after a few drinks, we are having trouble not bursting out into laughter whenever the camera reveals Stripling’s nickname. Seriously who thought the Little League uniforms were a good idea?

Dbacks have now won 10 in a row. They just swept the Dodgers and Rockies. Dbacks now have a 6.5 game lead for the first Wild Card Spot and a 7 game lead for either WC spot.
Now, because I remember the 2011 Red Sox and the 2007 Mets, I will not proclaim that the DBacks are guaranteed of making at least that WC game. I will say, though, that their chances are looking good.
The WC set up wouldn't even be that bad for the DBacks. They could pitch Greinke in that WC game, no problem. Greinke hasn't looked too good vs the Dodgers anyway. Of course, a 1 game play-in game is kind of a crap shoot, no matter what. Still, if they could get that game at home with Greinke pitching they might win.
DBacks are 8-8 vs the Dodgers so far. The bullpen actually blew a couple games to the Dodgers earlier in the season. So, I feel like the DBacks might be able to at least compete with the Dodgers in an NLDS series.
If the DBacks go 10-9 vs the Dodgers this season, and finish with a better record than the NL Central winner, then I may start bitching about the set up of the Wild Card. Especially because of this:
Standings vs. NL West Dodgers - 32-25 DBacks - 34-23
I totally understand the point of the Wild Card set up. It is to benefit teams which win their division. But if the Wild Card beats the Division winner head-to-head, has a better record in the division than the Division Winner, and has a better record overall than one of the other division winners, then this rationale doesn't really hold up.
Edit: Strike all of that. The baseball gods are punishing me for counting my chickens before they've hatched. Paul Goldschmidt is getting flown back to Phoenix for an MRI on his sore elbow. His elbow has been stiff for the past 5-7 days.
Second edit: Whew! No damage to Goldy's elbow. Just giving him some rest and a cortisone shot for the inflammation.
Also, LOL, that Labor Day game vs the Dodgers was a thing of beauty. 13-0 Dbacks. Ray struck out 14 Dodgers. JD Martinez had 4 home runs. I swear, Martinez has been a great pick up. Doing everything the Dbacks needed in a rental player.

There's a small chance now that the WC game could be Rox / Dodgers and... wow that would be strange. Been sitting here watching the Rox bungle / un-bungle / re-bungle / re-un-bungle their now-precarious WC spot like Hey, if it all works out I can say that we at least got some form of Rocktober one decade after the greatest year in team history... whether that extends to more than one game I know not but... Rocktober

It would be hilarious if the Dodgers just melted down and don't even win the division.
There is almost no chance of that happening, but wow, it is funny to think about.

Seriously Kangaroosevelt-Ecks what is the math required for the Dbacks to win the Division and the Rockies/Dodgers to meet in the WC game? Then we might be able to pull off that Rockies/Dbacks NLCS! Come on, that was the plan all along, right? This still seems like it would be steep odds. Math doesn't seem friendly when I eyeball the records vs games remaining. Complicating this is the upcoming 4 game DBacks/Rockies series. Ideally, both teams need to keep winning while the Dodgers keep losing. Should we be rooting for a split, and for the Dodgers to keep losing? Hmmm..... Who knows? Maybe the Dodgers won't win another game! LOL, they are now getting close to that 2007 Mets/2011 Red Sox territory. It is truly amazing to watch them meltdown like this. Their 2017 season continues to be quite memorable.

This might be the hardest regressing to the mean I've seen in sports. Although, best deployment of the Sports Illustrated Cover Jinx I've seen in a long time. I have watched 8 of the 15 games they have lost in this recent 1-15 stretch. This isn't a fluke. They are really playing badly. If you'd watched only this stretch of games you could never be convinced the team had already won 90+ games. Their NL West Division lead was 21 games only about 2.5 weeks ago. Now it is 9. Single digits! Justin Turner said today "We're the worst team in the league right now". He may not be wrong. No worries. They are about to start a series vs the Giants. Who might actually be the worst team in the league. Gotta figure the Dodgers can win at least one of those games. Probably more than one. Dodgers vs: NL Central: 23-9 NL East: 21-6 AL: 16-4 NL West: 32-32 DBacks vs NL West: 38-25 Rockies vs NL West: 35-25

Conflicting opinions here... We want to beat the Dodgers... the easiest path would be for the DBacks to catch up by sweeping... but... I've got that taste of Rocktober now! We need to run the board just like a decade ago! Greed is good! Sweep them all! I think the math would be them just straight-up losing out until one of our two teams claws its way back in these final few weeks. Nine games ahead of Arizona... it could feasibly happen if they keep on blowing out. I mean, the Rockies just took out their playoff rotation AT Chavez Ravine, so they can't even bitch 'COORS!' for that. Apparently the first time we have swept them in four, on the road, since 1993 - the first season. But, they are playing the Giants next - and as much as I'm enjoying them being awful, I wish they were a little less so right about now. (Overlooked this season: Padres are learning and aren't absolute travesties this year. Could break through in a few seasons, and on a shoestring budget nonetheless) (The further Dodgers bottom out... the more likely my championship fantasy team doesn't repeat... oh the irony)

The whole plan went awry while I was in Europe. It was exactly then that the Rockies went on a terrible losing streak and the Dbacks started to struggle. Exactly then that the Dodgers went on that insane winning month and a half.
Hmmm, since the Dodgers don't seem much interested in playing baseball anymore this season, I say they just forfeit, MLB then cancels the WC game. Rockies v Nats, Dbacks v Cubs NLDS.
How's that?
