I'm a completist, what can I say. Or sunk cost fallacy, whatever. I guess the latter, because there's some I gave a lot of time to before quitting because I hated it, like the TIF-recommended Black Lagoon. I found a guide that tells you which episodes are filler and just zoomed through the show. I highly recommend it. I forced myself through 1.5 seasons, not even far enough to get to filler. The actual content was the problem.

Hm, can I remember every anime I have watched in its entirety? In no particular order:
Cowboy Bebop Samurai Champloo Inuyasha (and it's conclusion series) Bleach Paranoia Agent Code Geass Fullmetal Alchemist (the first one) Excel Saga Osomatsu-san Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Love Hina Trigun Death Note
FLCL Blood+ Trinity Blood Elfen Lied
There's got to be a few more but that's the most I can come up with, and I started thinking really hard by the end of the list.
How the hell did you make it all the way through Bleach? Maybe he did what I did and just pretended the series ended after the Soul Society Arc. Man, that manga was one of the first manga I really got into on the ground floor of. Like, 15 years ago, my wife's (gf at the time) cousin was reading the first issue and gave me the copy. Then the series took off. And then it fell. I don't know if it will go down as having the worst ending ever, but its hard to think of a competitor. Everyone has an opinion on Bleach.

Yes, this is all real. The screenwriter for Pulp Fiction watched the Konosuba movie with his wife and daughter and gave it 5 stars on Letterboxd. I didn't even know there was a movie but now I'm really curious. Apparently there's a single showing tonight and then never again. I'm rather tempted to see it.

I watched most anime in the tape-sharing days, so my list is short. Macross / Robotech, Orange Road, FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion and Dirty Pair. I've seen 75% of a bunch of recent things but don't always finish them - Haruhi Suzumiya, Welcome to the NHK, other newish stuff. I'm probably forgetting something. I have seen a lot of Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku, but by no means 'all' of them - like the simpsons, at a certain point I can just say 'I'm a fan' without needing to see everything. Beautiful Dreamer is still one of my favorite movies, though.

I remember tape-sharing as well and how hard to come by most stuff was. Now, my Netflix suggestions are like 80% anime and I barely watch any of it.

Well, I watched the Konosuba movie, based largely on that screenwriter's recommendation. I'm up to date on the anime so I wasn't going in blind. Personally, I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars, maybe 3.5. It was fairly entertaining, but not 5 stars in quality. I can understand why it would seem strange and wildly creative to someone unfamiliar with anime and with otaku culture but when you know the cliches and the online jokes it's not quite as original.
Oh yeah, and it's definitely not a date movie. Look, I remember the 90s so jokes about sexual harassment and transphobia are old hat to me but you don't drop someone into that milieu without having a decent idea of how they'll take it (i.e., if they'll do that thing with anime where they mentally gloss over the problematic politics as "oh well, it's anime").
Also, regarding the audience at my showing, it was almost entirely young Asian dudes. There were maybe 5 white guys there at most, though one was a rather distinguished looking white-haired gentleman (perhaps a movie critic?). And as far as I could tell, no girls or women. So if you know anyone with a fetish for Asian dorks, this is definitely the event for picking up.

I finally got around to checking out the LOGH remake, and man..... color me disappointed. It is very pretty, but just so lifeless. The abridged nature rushes over a lot of details that the original OVA was able to dig in deep. Instead of emotional impact feeling earned, it just feels like a bullet point list of events. Also, some of the changes they made from the OVA actively works against the impact of events.
So disappointing, instead I might just go rewatch the series on VRV.

I just binged all of Space Battleship Yamato 2199 this past week, not the 2202 just 2199.
I had no prior experience with the original Yamato or Star Blazers(born circa 1990). So I've always wanted to check out the remake as that seems the best way to get into it. However, it took years for it to finally get over here in an easily accessible way and with the full series. So glad funimation figured out how to pick it up.
It is definitely one of the best anime series not just of this past decade but of any I've seen. It is a pitch perfect space oprea. The characters are great and fleshed out, the villains are fantastic and intimidating. The tension and melodrama work perfectly well. It is also wonderfully animated, and not just animation but overall keeps a 70s style anime feel while updating anything that needs to make it more modern. I can't recommend this enough, if you like any space opera like star trek, star wars, battlestar galactica, farscape, etc. You should check this out.
After finishing it up I decided to let it breathe before I head straight into 2202, so I've decided to jump back onto Fate/Stay Unlimited Bladeworks. Why? Idk, I don't like anything Fate I've seen. The dialogue is terrible, it is pretentious as all get out, the characters are totally unnatural in how they act, and while the animation is top notch I dont like the character designs that much. Just the central premise and some plotting is all I like, and it has this somewhat morbid curiosity to it that keeps me coming back. I'm near the end of season 1 of UBW, it actually grabbed me in a way Fate/Zero did not, though I do agree Fate/Zero is the better of the two. I don't know why I'm more interested in UBW though, just am. It is actually making me want to rewatch Fate/Zero now.
I guess the biggest reason I'm watching UBW though is that I want to check out the Heaven's Feel movie because of some of the horror aspects and animation I've heard about. And Fate/Stay really requires you to have a good understanding of the other routes to really get Heaven's Feel..... so here I am. Goddamnit I wish I could quit this shitty franchise, but my curiosity is too strong!

I always want to watch anime but never get around to it. I'm like a non-practicing anime fan.
Anyway, I asked my anime buddy who's seen everything what me and the wife should watch that is currently available on Netflix/Hulu/Prime, knowing that we like sillier shows like Kill la Kill or School Rumble. He directed us to Food Wars! which after 2 episodes is about as bananas a thing as I have ever seen.
We're liking it a lot, though did they have to make the characters this young if they were going to be this pervy?

I'm totally gonna make that onion-y steak thing from Food Wars! Ep. 8 or 9 I think.
This show makes me hungry.

Hunter X Hunter really is that mythical show that does truly get good after 40 or so episodes.

So after years of meaning to watch One Piece, but never going through whatever needed to be done to find/acquire it, there are now four seasons on Netflix.
I started watching it this weekend, and I'm enjoying it even more than I thought I would. I've been limiting myself to one story arc per day so I don't run through however much they have too soon.

I am halfway through s1 of Food Wars, and totally agree with LazBro up above. I like the plot, I am really interested in some of the food, but even I, a person who really really really likes to look at naked people, am like "whoa, that's kinda gratuitous, tone it down a bit maybe". Supposedly Crunchyroll has 5 seasons (Netflix only has the one), though I wonder where they can take this after season 1. Also I remain disappointed that although I am a pretty good cook, I have yet to make anything so delicious that the eater's clothes suddenly fly off.

Hulu has two seasons if you have a subscription. We don't have a Crunchyroll sub so we were limited to those two seasons. I'll say, unfortunately, the second season is a disappointment. I mean, it's perfectly entertaining episode by episode, but it's an ENTIRE season dedicated to a single food competition. 13 episodes about a few days worth of story. In true Shonen fashion. We got halfway through season 2 before realizing, "Oh wait, this is it. This is going to be the entire season." BUT, I want to make clear that it remains GREAT, event while it disappoints. The food remains excellent as ever.

You can find the entire English dub of Persona 4 The Animation on YouTube for the time being; I highly recommend watching it before it gets taken down

I got drunk and couldn't find the remote to change the channel and ended up watching some anime about a couple of firemans with swords and magic powers fighting big ol' demons who were wreckin' shop on a city with fire powers or some shit. It was subtitled in Korean and the title was something like "Fireworks Fire Department" in Korean (and in the Chinese Characters that the Japanese title consisted of). It was a lot of yellin' and sword choppin' and wreckin' shop on big ol' demons. I would watch it again if I was drunk and couldn't find the remote to change the channel while it was on.
EDITED TO ADD: The remote was in between the couch cushions.

Been working through the Saga of Tanya the Evil and liked it.
Then on a much lighter note, Hachikid and I have also been watching "Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater" and are really enjoying it too. It hits this nice sweet spot of having characters that aren't cloying and fake or otherwise lowkey assholes (which I feel is a huge chunk of the medium) while also having really practical advice and explanations about a real world subject (fishing, in this case). This legit might get my kid into fishing, so great! The animation is really nice and they nail the feel of Japan's sleepy southern coasts. It's worth a watch.

Finished watching the angel anime from Serial Experiments Lain lead designer and director Yoshitoshi Abe: Haibane Renmei. Very slow-paced slice-of-life about a group of "angels" stuck in a metaphorical purgatory town until they're deemed worthy to leave, with a sprinkling of intrigue and a sub-plot about Angel Cancer that doesn't pay off until the last third of the series. Entertaining if you want something that's (primarily) easygoing and comfy to chew on and lightly mull over; reminiscent of Humanity Has Declined in that regard but without any cynical dry humor.

I binged through all of Deca-Dence. Like some other people mentioned, it's like Attack on Titan but good. The show doesn't take itself as seriously, the characters don't yell their lines 80% of the time, and mysteries get solved in a reasonable time frame. The whole thing is wrapped up in one season! They should make more anime like this.

Thinking about becoming an "anime guy" in 2021 so to see if it's something I actually want to go through with next year I embarked on a trial run and watched the first two episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion since it's on Netflix and is only like 20 something episodes long and is also one of the titles that gets thrown around as "great anime." So far two episodes in it sure is an anime. There is a high school boy hero and bunch of boob ladies, giant robots, alien invaders, and Tokyo 3. I don't know how many of these tropes are tropes because of this show and how many will end up getting subverted but at present this is pretty much what I expected it to be on account of it being a cartoon show from Japan.

I know it isn't readily available streaming(the entries I'm alluding to at least). I'm just saying Eva's whole reputation as some grand deconstruction of the mecha genre is way overblown by the fandom at large.

It has pilots of giant robots watching 1970s anime about giant robots. It was probably just a given that the kids who grew up on giant robot anime would want to put their own spin on the genre once they were old enough to start making shows.

I'm a quarter of the way through Neon Genesis Evangelion so I'll probably end up watching it in its entirety unless things take a serious nosedive in terms of quality since I've passed my "You're a half hour show so you get 4 episodes to get me invested" threshold on it. So far it sure is an anime show. We've gotten giant robots, nude teen girls, a cute comic relief animal, random Christian motifs (everything explodes in the shape of a cross and the alien invaders are referred to as "apostles" or something if the Korean subtitles are at all accurate), and an anime boy screamin'. All the greatest hits though I'm still waiting for some random German shit to show up for no goddamn reason to tick that box off on my anime bingo card.
Maybe someone who's more of an anime person or better versed in Japanese can answer a question for me about the title. I can read Chinese characters/kanji on account of learning Korean so while the pronunciation will not be the same at all I know what shit means when it's in kanji and the shows title should be something like New Age or New Century Evangelion. So where'd the "Neon Genesis" shit come from? Also why are so few of the Japanese titles anything like the random English title card that pops up like halfway through the show? Was that an intentional choice? Were the parties responsible just shitty at English? What gives?
