I maybe said before, but it's wild to me how The Simpsons could be such a bedrock show for me and people my age, and now there is way, way more Simpsons that I haven't seen than Simpsons I have. By my quick and dirty estimate, there are nearly 500 episodes of The Simpsons I haven't seen, having broken off almost completely after season 12 or so.

I didn't stop completely until maybe five years ago, but I don't know if I remember a single thing about a single episode I watched over the ten years before that other than that there was a Lego episode and it was pretty good. Everything else just blurs together. Looking at user ratings people put together every so often, it seems like may be one episode per season or so gets rated highly enough to be considered "maybe good." I've debated cherry picking those episodes and watching them, but I honestly just don't think I care anymore.

No idea what you mean, that show went out after 13 seasons on a high.

I was considering doing one of those ratings at one point, and watching every single season of the show, but by the end of Season 9, I honestly didn't have much enthusiasm to continue on with Season 10 at this point, even though I know lot of fans consider it part of classic era Simpsons.

Left to their own devices, our children mostly watch crap. On Saturday and Sunday mornings when we do TV time, they either pick something way too kiddie for them (we feel) or something better but that they've already seen a thousand times. So we decided that this summer, since we're pushing back bed time* anyway, we're going to do a post-family time rewatch of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and they're welcome to join. Both the Mrs. and I prefer Korra ultimately, but obviously you gotta start with Avatar.
*It's not really bed time, it's "go to your room and leave us alone" time. Whatever they get up to in their room is on them.

Taskmaster (S12:E1-3)
I usually find I have a crush on at least one contestant in each series. This series gave me the revelation of what a stunner Morgana Robinson is. She clearly had Greg's number. Guz Khan is my second favourite for this series so far.
Taskmaster (S15:E8)
Kiell was a blast on this. He's got the verve. Mae Martin shows so much Canadian know-how. They're clearly capable of many things. I liked their brolly dog, but Kiell killed it with his themed story and matching in-studio wardrobe.
Taskmaster (S8:various)
Loved Rose Matafeo being taken to task for her NZ accent. She turned out to be the real winner with her new appointment as Taskmaster (Kids' Version). Mike Wozniak is the co-host for that. Gonna be fun for at least a few series, I assert.

When I was visiting, my dad went on a (lovingly said) mini-rant about how he doesn't understand how I can love horror movies so much.
He also insisted I check out Happy Valley.
Y'all, this is some of the bleakest, darkest shit I've ever seen. And I'M the disturbed one?!

I did not expect Barry’s final scenes to make me angry (in an intentional, artistic way).
What a great argument for putting drama in a half-hour format, too.

Documentary Now! (S4:E1)
The manufactured verity of this series is impeccable, making the satire razor sharp. This double episode season opener looks to touch on all early Herzog works, but I haven't watched part II yet. That said, I did laugh out loud at the local holding up their newly made prop of a 1980s cellphone. Some other moments really got me chuckling. Well done, all involved. Most especially, Bill Hader, who is quietly carving a lasting body of work.

the TINIEST and vaguest of Ted Lasso finale spoilers but:
When Keeley shut the door on Roy and Jamie, I said "you're fucking idiots" and a half second later Roy said "we're fucking idiots" and I lost it.

I found the Ted Lasso finale very satisfying. They didn't always make the best writing decisions in seasons 2 and 3 but I really can't care because I just love the vibe of the show so much.
All that being said, I'm never sure how to feel about Bill Lawrence in general. He can create the most kind-hearted shows but many of his other shows also have a major mean streak. I wonder about what, if anything, his central "thesis" is.

Loved the Ted Lasso season/series finale but mildly disappointed in season 3, which...
vague spoilers
...
...I felt was only a semi-successful exercise in demonstrating what a Ted Lasso-less Ted Lasso would look like.

I agree with you, some of the writing/plotting was a little sloppier in seasons 2 and 3, but overall, it was emotionally satisfying. (OK but that one shot toward the end with Beard & Co was some of the worst CGI I've ever seen on TV.)

"Stream, baby. Stream", Alan Bega
The Alpinist (2021)
Holy shit, this kid was amazing. Sure, death was far more likely than continued success in first ascents, but what he accomplished will be exalted for some time to come, I reckon.
Documentary Now! (S4:E3, E4)
Mulaney absolutely crushed it with episodes 1 and 2. Meyers hit a single with "Two Hairdressers in Bagglyport" and a triple with "When They Threw Rocks". If ever you wanted to see humans throw rocks at each other in the spirit of competition, and have belly laughs, this is the vignette to watch over Fail Army supercuts.
Taskmaster (S15:E2-E3)
All caught up to current now. Kiell's aggrievements are gold. Jenny Eclair, golly I wished I remembered more of her stuff from back in the 90s. I remember Jo Brand sure enough, but have only the faintest of memories.
Soft White Underbelly, "Tony, John Gacy Survivor" (2023)
The rare interview that astounds in its tension.

Severance has its claws in me deep. Five episodes in, four to go.
When we're not working through a nostalgia binge - House, Psych - our standard routine is to not watch more than one episode of anything a night. Better to have multiple shows going and inch them all along. But oh man right now I have eyes for nothing else. I want to watch all of it right now. It is perfectly on my wavelength. The only concern I have, with knowledge of an upcoming season 2, is that it won't come to anything. That there's no "there" there, because there's no definite end and they can't write themselves into a corner.
But folks 'round here have said that season 1 sticks the landing, so I'll put my energy into being excited for that.

And finally, we started our rewatch of Avatar: The Last Airbender, this time as a project with the kids, and we're incredibly pleased to find that they are both loving it. We have struggled for 9 and 5 years respectively to entertain these children with anything that we like. For so long it has seemed an unspoken rule with them that if it's something we, the parents, love, they will hate it, or at best be disinterested. And in those rare times we did capture one of them, the other would be adamantly opposed. This has been true of movies, tv shows, music, and games.
But The Last Airbender got'em. We nabbed them both.

Severance is a show where I didn't see the end of S1 coming but it all made perfect sense. I really hope they can keep that going.

Titans (S1:E4-6)
I'm not totally opposed to wasting hours and hours in front of screens despite chastising children to do otherwise. This time waster can be fun, even when you drop in mid-season. The leads are cute to stunning. Vertigo feels with the "adult"ing of Teen Titans here. Crushing mad style on Anna Diop.

I continue to appreciate the 60s rhythm and blues interstitials. That is all.
