I had only watched the first 3 episodes of Ted Lasso season 3. So, over the last couple days I binged the remaining episodes.
It's...okay!
To start with, here's what I didn't like:
Everything with Keeley. This all seemed pointless. And it made the character look much more dumb than what she was portrayed as being in the first two seasons. I do not understand why Keeley would ever think it was a good idea to get romantically involved with the person who is financially backing her company! And Rebecca never brings this up as a concern? They have a conversation about "love bombing" but not a conversation about what could happen if you break up with the person who is financing your company? This all felt very weird and unreal to me. At least the show actually followed through with the real consequences, I guess. But it also annoyed me that Keeley was so passive about this, and just melted down instead of asking Rebecca to help connect her with other potential investors. Keeley's company was good and successful! Why was she so quick to give up? I don't know. Everything about her story annoyed me.
Also, I was not keen on the weakness of Nate's turnaround story. Particularly not fond of how him getting a girlfriend somehow is what heals him. I wanted to see him actually grapple with how his actions hurt people. But, it seemed like that all happened off screen? I don't know. It felt like they gave him a shortcut. And I have no idea why this girl wanted to date him?
Better, but still slightly frustrating was how Rebecca's story all season was so meandering. And revolved around a psychic telling her she was going to be a mother? If she was going to hook up with a cool Dutch pilot, just do that? It was nice to see her drop her walls and find a real connection with someone. And learn to value herself. Why not just continue with this for the rest of the season? I'd like to see her have some genuine romance! Why did we instead spend a season on some sort of quest to prove a psychic correct? It was weird.
The stuff I did like includes:
Roy's development. I liked seeing him engage more and more with people. With Jamie, and with Ted and Beard. Not sure I really understood why he broke up with Keeley, but oh well. I also loved his friendship with Jamie.
Speaking of Jamie, I honestly think he may have been the best character this season? I loved seeing his journey of feeling jealous of Zava, wanting to be better, training with Roy, becoming friends with Roy, kinda losing his motivation and then discovering a new one. I loved how he rejected the idea of being the star goal scorer and embraced being a team player. This was well-earned by the show.
Finally, I also liked Ted's story, of working through trauma and realizing that he needs to be an active father for his son. I liked seeing him deal with his ex-wife and son. I also enjoyed seeing him "invent" a football strategy which everyone already knows! I liked how this all built into the theme of the show, how he was then going to have the team all work together to support each other. And how this was tied into Colin's story and into Sam's. This all worked for me. Though, damn, when Rebecca offered him that huge raise to stay, I did kinda wish he'd at least floated that idea by his ex-wife to have her and his son move to England before rejecting it.
Overall, the season felt more uneven than the previous two, but it was still enjoyable. I quite liked the finale, even if it did feel a bit too tidy. Can't really complain about that too much with this particular show, though.

Binged Shoresy S2 over two 3-episode nights. Really solid season with lots of laughs and a further showcase of Jacob Tierney's otherworldly ability, through music and editing, to capture a moment.
Positives: - really liked the story once it got going, good stakes, good problems and solutions, ending with all those walk-ins was maybe a bit cheesy
- loved the expanded roles for Hitch, Frankie, and the Jims - "set the tone" has entered the ever-expanding lexicon of Letterkenny quotables
Negatives: - first three episodes were a little dog-paddle-y, establishing the same problems over and over again, but the back three more than make up for it - I know that conspicuous eye candy is just part of the Keeso-verse at this point (as we all know, there is an impossible number of good looking girls in Sudbury), but it was maybe a bit much - less Sanguinette, which sucks cuz he's the best "real" character (compared to someone like Goody, who is a fine character but not like a real person, he's a punchline); I mean, Sanger was there, but he didn't have his own story and never felt in command the way he did in S1
- it just wasn't as funny as the first season; lots of laughs, but S1 was perfection
The show has been renewed for a 3rd season. Let's set the fucking tone.

We watched S1 of Shorsey last week (S2 was not quite out yet) and it was solid. I found the character insufferable on Letterkenny (we get it, he calls everyone a titfucker) but Keeso manages to give him some actual humanity on the titular show. It amuses TWBE quite a bit, so I'm willing to watch it. So we'll have to put S2 on this week.

Rewatching the first season of Girls5Eva because I wanted the fella to watch it. Stands up really well apart from the TikTok thing in the third episode that was dated on arrival and even worse now. But such a great show and a simply amazing cast. Also, for some reason I'd forgotten that "Dolly Parton" was Tina Fey in a cheap wig and laughed my ass off at it. So glad it's getting a third season - well done Netflix (for once)!

New season of Letterkenny announced for December 26 in the States. Boxing Day as usual.
*sigh* it's also the final season.
Not gonna post the teaser trailer.

I started watching The Sopranos in September. I remember seeing the last few episodes with my parents when they aired because the finale was such a hotly anticipated cultural event, but so far that's been my exposure to the show outside of recalling the media hype around it when it was on. And then I just never got around to starting it from the beginning, I suppose?
Goddamn it. I am SO ANGRY that it's this good. It is every bit as goddamn good as everyone says.
I got to "Pine Barrens" last night and my stomach fucking hurt from laughing by the end of it. I nearly slid off my sofa, as a matter of fact, at the "sixteen Czechoslovakians" bit.

I hadn't watched it when it first aired, but I binged the entire series over a week back when HBO Go first started. Totally worth it. Even its meanderings are compelling and memorable.

I watched a season-three episode of Frasier last night wherein Niles mentioned being 38 years old and just about died. I'M 38! I thought for sure they were both supposed to be in their forties. Jesus. Either I am super immature or the 90s really were a different time to be in your late 30s.

I really enjoyed the first season of Reacher on Prime. Alan Ritchson is fantastic in the role. Here's the season two trailer, it looks pretty good. I VAGUELY remember reading the first three or so books in the series.

I'm deep into Foundation (s2 ep5) and while it isn't perfect I like it very much: it's beautiful, and lord knows I love a space opera. Is it getting better or am I settling into the way it works? Either way I'll keep watching.
I really love the many emotional scenes that have men - burly men, genuine manly-men - crying, that felt really natural and true. Kudos to these actors, and more of this please. Everybody hurts, sometimes, even in space.

I am currently watching the ATLA animated series with Mrs B for her first time, recommended by her boss. She thinks it's okay so far, but not "amazing". We just started the second season.
This just came out an hour ago, and DAMN this looks great! I really hope it's as good as the One Piece show is.

Tonight was the last episode of Doom Patrol, a show I think I might have been the only person watching. I don't think I saw one single ad for the series this season. It had obviously had it's budget slashed this season, and was still often goofy as shit, but also had some great, heartfelt writing. And they not only ended the series, they killed it and drove a stake through it's heart. I kind of understand why, it was too weird to ever have any mass appeal, and to be fair, they really did right by the characters so I'm not too bitter about it. It does make me sad, though.

Totally scored a DVD copy of Over the Garden Wall for twenty bucks! It’s hard to find, and when I’ve seen it before, it was always like forty American dollars or some ridiculous bullshit. I’m so pleased.

The finale of Loki season two is seriously one of the best moments in the entire MCU. Loki's character development throughout has been fucking incredible, and if this is how his character "ends" it is perfect.

I'm going to miss this show. There's really nothing else like it on TV.

I'm currently only watching Supergirl out of the Arrowverse shows, but over the weekend I reached the start of the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" massive crossover episodes, so I watched all five parts.
Each part aired in a different show, in the order of Supergirl, Batwoman, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow. All of these were available via Netflix except Batwoman, which is available on Tubi.
I really enjoyed this. The previous crossover events I kind of ignored, even skipping some of the other episodes because I had little to no interest in "an alternate reality where all the superheroes are Nazis" stuff. But this was a blast.
Cameos from a bunch of other characters, alternate versions of characters, and actors from previous performances. The highlights were Kevin Conroy as elderly Bruce Wayne, Tom Welling as Smallville's Clark Kent, and even a brief visit with Tom Ellis' Lucifer via John Constantine. Also, Brandon Routh playing the movie Superman alongside Ray Palmer was fantastic.
Some great cameos as well from Burt Ward, Wil Wheaton, Marv Wolfman, a less great one from Ezra Miller, and a bunch I probably missed.
Anyway, it was a lot of fun.

We needed something light, funny and not-too-attention-sucking to watch, so we're rewatching Scrubs. Which, yes, does have some cringe-worthy gay and fat jokes so far. But I feel like it mostly holds up.
One thing that bugged me though - it's the episode where Carla and JD are going to go to a photography exhibit, and they're on the bus (side note, characters taking a bus!!) and she says she never went to college. Pretty sure you need a college degree to be an RN???

BSNs are generally preferred, but not required. The main thing is that you need to pass an exam.

Foundation s02 ep08
Hotdamn, Lee Pace is perfectly cast in this: tall and stately, hammy and over-the-top, stupidly confident until something challenges his god-persona. Also verrrry handsome, can't say that doesn't count.
I'm at the point where I don't care if the plot points align: give me all the gorgeous space soap-opera please, as long as it isn't too dumb. Fingers crossed for season 3.

Okay I’m extremely pleased Ghosts UK is available on Paramount + (and I don’t even pay for it), but look. Series five is currently airing, so why have they only released two episodes of series one? I just want to remind myself of what’s happened & then get caught up! How can I binge on TWO episodes?!
