We come from the land of the ice and snow from the midnight sun where the hot springs flow Which I always thought was odd, since, like, there aren't exactly a ton of Icelandic immigrants anywhere. I mean, shit, there aren't a ton of Icelandic people, period! |

There's a sizable Icelandic community in Manitoba, especially around the west side of Lake Winnipeg, as there was a migration there in the 1870s. The town of Gimli was actually shown on a road sign on The Simpsons once, in that episode about Canadian prescription drugs. My family has a cottage up in that area, so I go there quite a bit. Gimli residents under the age of 35 or so are almost all unfairly good-looking--must be all the hakarl. |

I previously only knew the town of Gimli from the famous "Gimli Glider" incident, when a 767 ran out of fuel and was brought down safely by its pilot (who had experience with gliders) without engine power, gliding the whole way into Gimli's small airfield... Which had been converted into a racetrack/entertainment complex. |
