The light on our garage door opener hasn't been working since lightning struck nearby a couple years ago. (The opener still works - and it wasn't the lightbulb.) Finally yesterday we installed a motion sensor on the other lightbulb in there, so we can leave it on and it will come on when the door opens! Finally!
(Also I am terrible about checking my tire inflation. But I am getting new tires tomorrow, and they've lasted a pretty normal amount of time, so there's that.)

Also I've been losing a bit of weight by doing the laziest diet ever that I like to call "don't eat a carb" and it's pretty self explanatory.

Saw my two ex-best friends from afar quite unexpectedly at C2E2 and managed to talk myself out of a panic attack! Congratulations!! That's no small thing! I remember once running into one of my ex-best friends at a hockey game. Thank God I just so happened to be having an internet-friends meet-up at that game, so when she "sweetly" came up to chat with me to rub it in my face about the cool job she'd gotten since we'd stopped talking, I was able to be like, "That's great. I gotta run -- I'm here with tons of newer better friends." Otherwise it would have been a bad, bad scene for me.

I expected one of them to be there with her brother and sister, and she was, but I didn't expect the other one to be there, and seeing them arm-in-arm from a distance was enough to send me reeling for a few minutes. I made myself drink some water and had the friend I was with - who was excellent company - distract me with something else until my knees stopped shaking. Just when you think you're over it, you know? I did learn through someone else linking me to a post on Fail FandomAnon that the other ex-friend was just absolutely obnoxious and awful during the Marvel panel, so. At least I know I'm not crazy and she really is terrible.

We started doing trivia last year at a local brewery with some of the people we knew from Crossfit. Last year, if we were the only ones who showed up, we would merge our team with some of the other people we had met at trivia (there are a number of regulars). Starting last week, we decided to play as a team on our own. Last week we finished second, and this week, we brought another friend, and finished first (and also won what they call the baffler, which meant one round was free). Since Mrs. Rumak does not actually drink beer (although she did have a snack this week), and I generally drink two each time we go (and our friend drank three, but only because after we won, I told him he should have another), we are now earning beer faster than we are drinking it. And, after tonight, we're at $100 in beer gift certificates. We need to throw a party.

A YouTube playlist of mine has almost 2000 views. I'm not responsible for any of the content in the videos and it's questionable whether or not this can be called an achievement, but I'm inordinately proud nonetheless.

Of the thirty cold emails I sent yesterday on behalf of the Studio to corresponding authors of medical journal papers, I got two replies. Not "Yes, let's do X project next week!" but even "Thanks, we will contact you if we need you," is a good return.

At least I know I'm not crazy and she really is terrible. Those moments are worth their weight in gold. One of the few bright spots of last autumn was when I took off for Thanksgiving holiday and my bosses got to experience firsthand just how decrepit my co-workers were (or had become). I was worried that I was subconsciously gaslighting or something, and it was a relief to learn that it was pretty objectively appalling. I finally got around to figuring out how to disable the obnoxious hyperactive touchpad on my HP Notebook. The thing's been driving me crazy for months now and somehow I never bothered to look up the information on the Internet (I still have to disable it every time I turn on the computer, but maybe I can fix it more permanent).

I finally, after 15+ years, figured out the artist and title of a song that I heard a bunch of times on the radio a long time ago and could never figure out who did it or what it was. It turns out it was called "Plastiqa" and by Silver Jet. One of the guys in the band put it on youtube about a year ago.

For a solid ten minutes, I had a coworker believing I had a boyfriend and he was an astronaut named Mike Dexter. I once convinced a friend of mine that cream soda was made with actual half-n-half. To be fair, he now believes Al Gore invented global warming so that he could make money off his family's investment in nuclear energy, so it wasn't the toughest thing ever, but still.

I slacked off on an assignment this week. Got overloaded with stuff from my other class, and only had about half the assignment done before class. I had decided yesterday to go to sleep rather than stay up a few more hours to finish it. I could have probably finished it tonight and it was due at midnight. But, I emailed the professor to ask for an extension until tomorrow.
Professor came in to class today and said he was extending the deadline for the whole class until Friday.
I am totally taking credit.

My wife's family is from Belfast so I've learned to tell the difference between a Northern Irish accent and a southern one. Today I heard someone on the radio and correctly deduced that they were a Catholic from Belfast! (My wife's family are Protestants, the accents are slightly different.)

did you get all the mementos? Nooooo. New Nekos threw off my memento game. I got a memento from Ganache even though I never saw her (same thing happened with King Xerxes)
