Jericho is also the wrestler I'd probably most like to hang out with in real life. He comes across as a really funny guy in pretty much every interview (non-wrestling VH1 stuff included). Plus Fozzy is a thing that exists.

My relationship with wrestling is funny because for most of my life I've been around people who've been heavily into it, but I just can't really seem to commit hard to it*, although as I've gotten older I've learned to appreciate the story and comedy (not to mention the crazy and fuck-ups) so much more. Although I tend to only do so in youtube sized chunks.
I think my problem was that my mom disapproved enough that I couldn't get any merch or see shows, but not hard enough to fervently ban it and therefore make it cool to like it as a form of rebellion. Also we only had antenna tv so watching it meant deciding between a lazy weekend movie or rearranging the rabbit ears and hope that chanel comes in. I was in middle school during the 90's boom and had an attachment to pretty much every Mick Foley character, but other than that I prefer the really big guys, the walking freaks way over any of the pretty boys.
I like lucha libre and have seen a couple live shows, but I wish there wasn't such a language barrier and lived in a area that had it more often.
Also I just randomly found this: (Malone has brought a reasonable amount of shame to my homeland)
*this also somewhat applies to boxing (which is my dad's favorite sport) and MMA, but living in vegas when it was really starting to take off and knowing some of the (low-level) guys made me get more into it than anything else, but I'm kind of sick of it due to the sheer ubiquity and mass marketing proliferation now. (why yes I'm a hipster when it comes to watching dudes hurt other dudes).

I grew up in the south in Flair Country, of course, and just about the time WWF and stuff was breaking loose so I followed that somewhat halfheartedly, because I was more from rasslin' country, of course. Kinda fall out of it, then get back into in college and start talking with tape traders and learn about such as ECW and puro and generally get a lot "smarter" (*ahem*) and it's critical mass with all the nWo and Attitude Era stuff breaks out and so we're following all that. As bad as easy accessibility to distant matches are for indies (LOOK AT THIS MOVE I SAW FROM AAA WITH 2 MORE FLIPS ADDED), I cannot imagine living in a day when I’d have needed to track down tapes. I bought every Regal Japan match for 15 dollars last year. Every one! It’s wonderful The storage involved was hell on Earth, believe you me.

I was pretty heavily into wrestling in my middle school/early high school years. I learned how to program my VCR just to record episodes of Smackdown I missed during swimming season. I befriended one of the grossest kids in school just because he was willing to record all the PPV's he ordered and give me the tape the next day (which in retrospect I actually feel kind of bad about). Somewhere there exists a incredibly tame backyard wrestling tape with my friends in which I embarrassingly sing my own entrance music as I run into the picture. I had a 2 year subscription to WWE magazine.
I will still occasionally watch a Raw or something if I'm the only one home or awake and it's on TV and I've been known to go on weekend WWE Netflix binges. I still follow it loosely on-line, just in case something cool is happening.

I was in middle school during the 90's boom and had an attachment to pretty much every Mick Foley character, but other than that I prefer the really big guys, the walking freaks way over any of the pretty boys. I totally get it, but you should give it a try. There has never been a better time for big men, especially because a lot of them can move. Luke Harper is my favorite, and improved from his days in the indies. www.dailymotion.com/embed/video/x11mwjy?start=812 (13:30 if that doesn't work) youtu.be/sU1b8Kl6sgA?t=1m www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVpxEk-OazUBig E Langston is so agile, pretty skilled, and legitimately super-strong, but I like his personality the most. He's legitimately worth following on Twitter for nonwrestling fans, he's hilarious when given the chance , his 5-count gimmick was super-cool, and ultimately he's a nice, smart pastor's son from a cool country. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7emarKF7RcY www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKqtFqpRLEkColin Cassady is pretty good in the ring and legitimately hilarious. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMlGMdXpDFU vbox7.com/play:3ad7f3719f www.youtube.com/watch?v=UH_QHrPJv1wSheamus always puts on good matches. I don't think Mark Henry is as good a wrestler as some people do, but when you were gone, he became the best trash talker and a pretty good actor. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfMI9j8WwFEAntonio Cesaro isn't technically a big man, but he wrestles like one. The ending is 1 of the best wrestling stunts ever. www.dailymotion.com/video/x13hktl_antonio-cesaro-vs-sami-zayn-2-out-3-falls-match_sport I don't think he's necessarily better than when he was indie, but W.W.E. plays to his strengths more. www.youtube.com/watch?v=heePaLlHmmsRoman Reigns is my least favorite of The Shield, but does every single thing well. www.dailymotion.com/video/xw67rr_2012-tlc-the-shield-vs-team-hell-no-ryback_sport www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gXeWvSof5g Alexander Rusev is badass and has 2 cool themes now. www.dailymotion.com/video/x13n3vo_08-22-13-dolph-ziggler-vs-aleksander-rusev_sportKane just wrapped up a run that was excellent on the promo side and good on the wrestling side. Sweet T was cool in Japan but is now just a good announcer. I really don't like big men because I'm prefer prissy, elitist characters, but I'm not going to deny greatness.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=frEjJJQAPPgIt has been established that Gillian Jacobs is a huge indie wrestling fan (goes to shows, knows commentators), but now she's on that awesome Sam Roberts' guy's show. (Watch his Randy Orton interview, for instance, if you don't like him). I can't watch from work now, but this is why she's really nearing that #2 celebrity crush spot for me. Also, Britta would make an awesome Ricardo-like face manager.

YouTube has a lot of puro. This is probably my favorite Misawa/Kobashi match. Their epic from NOAH in '03 runs a very close second.

So, I never thought I'd buy tickets to anything but N.X.T. because Minneapolis and Chicago are the only places in my area that get guaranteed important events. BUT, the post-Elimination Chamber Raw and Smackdown are in Green Bay and Milwaukee. The 1st Raw ever on the Network will be that one. The N.X.T. live special is that Thursday. They're going to need to scramble to reset for WrestleMania, make the 1st week of their product look good, and promote N.X.T., so it'll probably be awesome. I'll be flying back from a work trip on Monday and probably wouldn't risk the drive and a possible storyline-only show, anyway, so I'll walk to Main Event/Smackdown and my back-right (from where the camera's pointed), 5th row, aisle seat. The Shield is scheduled to show. I COULD TOUCH DEAN AMBROSE'S SHOULDER. I COULD HAVE A STUPID SIGN GET ON CAMERA WHEN THEY ENTER. I WILL ACTUALLY GET TO WATCH WRESTLING INSTEAD OF A BATISTA PROMO ABOUT HOW HE IS GOING TO KILL NEW W.W.E. CHAMPION ANTONIO CESARO RARGH. Has anyone ever gone to a show? How do you get the most out of it? (I didn't follow wrestling when I went to Japan and I've only been to Chikara here. I'm really excited.) YouTube has a lot of puro. This is probably my favorite Misawa/Kobashi match. Their epic from NOAH in '03 runs a very close second. Man, that sort-of-jumping-Tiger Driver at 33:09 is so safe-looking but still awesome. Why isn't it used in McMahontown? I also love the slow pace of this match. The "big fight feel" is totally there. It's rare in W.W.E., although I remember Mark Henry's breakthrough match against Sheamus being like that. Plus Fozzy is a thing that exists. Tweet this to him. It's probably the nicest thing that's ever been said and he'll quote you on their website.

The low price and the mind-boggling amount of archive stuff sold me.

I just saw ALL OF THE WRESTLERS (on Smackdown) at the gym. Cesaro, Swagger, Rusev, Del Rio, Barrett, Axel, Fandango, Ambrose, Rollins, Woods, Emma, Rae, Maddox. I didn't bother them much, but gave them the "what's up" nod. Rusev told me my squat form could use work and then did my weight incredibly easily. I'm taller than all of them. More to come when I get back from the show tonight. So, any of y'all sign up for the WWE Network? The low price and the mind-boggling amount of archive stuff sold me. I always wait (as with video games) for the kinks to get worked out, but definitely. It's done well, they made steps to include the controversial and "real" stuff with great adjustments, and I'm sure the extra and archival material will be creative eventually. It's the future of television and W.W.E. not messing stuff up for once. I'm going to reward them.

Aw, man. I'm reminded how much wrestling depends on crowds. They barely moved for Main Event. Except for a surprise, "Let's go Ziggler!" for the opening dialogue segment, Milwaukee was so docile. I understand people in the nosebleeds watching like they're watching television, but why was it that 80 percent of the people paying 100 dollars or more for ground-level seats were not standing and making noise the entire time? They didn't help the wrestlers tell stories at all, so I'll probably never go to another W.W.E. event that's not N.X.T., Chicago, New York, or Seattle. The gym encounters were cooler than the show.
The people who did make noise were total marks. "C-M-PUNK!" "WE-WANT-ICE-CREAM!" Cheering rabidly for a Hulk Hogan tease.
At the very least, it made my noise for Del Rio, Fandango, Sandow, McIntyre, and Rusev stand out. I got a, "Thank you!" out of Del Rio.
That said, there was an awesome kid there who had fun interacting with me. I treated him really nicely and helped him raise his sign higher, and he asked me why I liked Del Rio "when he has no muscles" and I made him a more sophisticated consumer of men in tights pretend-fighting and doing sketches.
Best reactions: That would be Batista (negative), Bryan, Uso and Uso(!), Sheamus, Ziggler, Cesaro, Kane (negative), Ambrose and Rollins and Reigns.
Biggest surprise: Road Dogg was never a good wrestler, but I get why he's popular and why the team works away from the microphone. He does little nuances playing the cowardly heel that few people do, and Billy Gunn doing his Will Ferrell blank idiot face thing works.
Pleasant surprise: The dead time is minimal at a show, which is not what I heard. Maybe it's different for Superstars-Raw.
Are they impressive in person: Well, define impressive. I could dunk on Cesaro easily. That said, he did his 2nd rope suplex to Big E Langston, so...
Are they different in person: Oh, I get ring rats now. Seeing them in person is a reminder that they all prepare to go on television, so even if they're mediocre-looking fpr television, they're still 8s, 9s, and 10s for regular people. Literally no one I saw wasn't beautiful. Even Kane got back in shape and is incredibly ripped. A.J. Lee and Fandango? Uh, yeah.
Did I get on television: Yes, I was on a bunch, even though The Shield went 1 path over. LEGIT SHOOK.

I'm kind of curious how deep into their archives it goes, because at this point they hold the rights to pretty much all American wrestling pre-whenever TNA and Ring of Honor started existing. I will be stoked as hell if there's a lot of the weird territory stuff from the 1970s and 80s (A.W.A. I'm looking at you buddy!)

I know the CM Punk chants haven't been huge or anything but that city is different kind of beast. I know all three have HUGE potential as singles wrestlers but I really don't want the Shield to break up yet. Their feud with the Wyatt family has been awesome.

So I haven't checked in on WWE lately. Does it still look like 'Mania is going to be super lousy this year? Well, the main event is still Orton v Batista, so yeah. I expect Bryan/HHH to potentially be the greatest thing ever, but I'll catch it afterwards thru some illegal means. Vince won't get a cent from me if he's actually so tone-deaf to his audience as to go forward w that abomination of a main event.

Here's the projected lineup thus far: *Orton vs Boo-tista for the WWE title (might be the most shit upon match in WM history) *Taker vs Lesnar (may be great but also has high potential for a for realsies serious injury) *Cena vs Bray Wyatt (might be pushing Wyatt too quickly) *HHH vs Daniel Bryan (acceptable only if Bryan wins AND this is the last match of the night) *Sheamus vs Christian (solid vets but meh buildup) *The Shield confirming their breakup via triple threat match *Usos vs New Age Outlaws with other teams possibly participating (Usos should win) *Cesaro vs Big E (Cesaro can do wrong right now) *Dolph Ziggler and Kofi Kingston not being used properly *AJ Lee vs Tamina Now if it's revealed on Monday in Chicago that CM Punk is coming back...

Serious question: If you'er WWE and Punk is not actually coming back, why don't you just shamelessly rip-off the booking of WrestleMania X and save what's not a god-awful card if you ignore the main event? Keep Orton-Batista, but get it out of the way early. Use HHH-Bryan as your mid-show secondary main event. Have Bryan wrestle the winner of Orton-Batista for the title at the end of the show. You could easily come up with some storyline shenanigans to make that happen and it would probably placate the fanbase.

I actually would have loved to have seen Punk-HHH just for Punk's promos, but one rumor I've heard is that one of things contributing to Punk walking out was that he was booked to lose to HHH at WM. Now if Bryan winning closes out WM and that's his big "moment" I would be sorta okay with it. I do agree with you that Bryan deserves to both beat HHH and get title on the same night.

I do sympathize with WWE in their booking a little bit. I'm sure they sit and think, "every time we put the title on somebody you nerds like they end up running their mouths everywhere and walking out when their contracts are up...or OD'ing under the pressure...or taking constant sabbaticals to tour with their heavy metal cover band...or getting pulled over with marijuana...or killing their families in a steroid and concussion induced rage. Just let us book the guys we're comfortable with and shut up."

Misawa v Chono, NJPW '02

This made me think about how much Japanese wrestling influence there was on Zayn-Cesaro last night. The pacing wasn't American indie but had "cool moves," told stories like W.W.E., but was expertly timed like this. I adore that ending, too. I wouldn't want every fight to end without an obvious finisher, but the total exhaustion overtaking them was awesome. That was actually my favorite story-based part of Zayn-Cesaro Fight 3: Cesaro getting up triumphantly, walking toward the ropes, bouncing off them, and falling down, disoriented. Of course, they cut that from the video packages because WRESTLERS CANNOT BE EXHAUSTED IF THEY ARE TOUGH. (Aside: it's weird to see Squaresoft sponsoring this, ha!)

Masahiro Chono v Ravishing Rick Rude, Finals of the 1992 G1 Climax tournament. One of my fav matches featuring a gaijin (non-Japanese wrestler) not named Stan Hansen. Rude is in peak form here, physically and heelishness-wise. Chono is in rare form as a monster babyface (he's usually one of puro's great villains) and both of them put in some serious work here while a subdued Dusty Rhodes (Rude was representing WCW in this tourney) looks on from ringside. Fun, fun match.

Behold! Six man tag at its finest.
Stan Hansen v Misawa, Triple Crown title match from '95. This isn't the first time Misawa takes AJPW's top prize from the greatest of the gaijin, but this is prob my fav bout between them.
BxB Hulk & Takagi v KENTA & Ishimori for the GHC Jr Tag Titles, Dragon Gate '08. Gotta love cross-promotional hatefests like this.
A textbook example of Dragon Gate's house style. Lucharesu (hybrid of puro and high-flying lucha libre) at its finest.

Speaking of lucha libre, the mask v mask match is the ultimate way to blow off a long-simmering feud. Mistico y Black Warrior put on an excellent example here.
At the other end of the spectrum, strong style is a much more technical, naturalistic approach than King's Road superheroics or lucha-inspired pyrotechnics. My favorite current practitioner is Minoru Suzuki, and here he takes on the high-flying Ibushi in a brilliant clash of styles from last year's G1 Climax.
Fujinami v Antonio Inoki, NJPW '85. Strong style perfection.
