I am definitely Ready for Some Football. First preseason game is next Thursday, and we're playing the Panthers at home. We're gonna die and I'm okay with that.

There's something to be said for knowing your team is declining and being ok with it. I've been a Saints fan for 35 years. Brees got us the Super Bowl a few years back and it was the greatest sports moment I've ever had, and, quite frankly, am ever likely to have. If his shoulder finally explodes in a cloud of dust this year, I'll shrug, and accept that it lasted ten years longer than anyone expected it to.
In the off chance we can pull an actual defense together and put together one last shot at the title, I'll be thrilled, and accept it as a happy bonus. But I'm not expecting it, and I think I'm in an ok place with that.

I really hope that the addition of Cook and R. Rodgers slimming down means Green Bay can spread the field a bit more. Davante Adams really needs to get over his yips though because outside of Nelson and Cobb the receiver depth is...woof.

I love deadspin for making sure people don't forget that Brett farve sexually harassed Jenn sterger and Harrison most likely tried to kill a dude(who magically ended up dead afterwards, hmmm....)

It's true, he's a bad lad but I can't be the only one who thinks that the ol' gunslinger could really show these kids a thing or two if he laced 'em up for one more go by going out there and having fun with it, drawing plays in the dirt and slinging the ol' ball around and such.

Ya know, I normally have a hard time getting into pre-season. It's hot and/or pleasant out. The games don't count. Half the regulars aren't even in. It just feels wrong.
But tonight I flipped on the Mets game. They were already down 5-0 to the Padres in the second and on their way to finally falling under .500. I uttered a "Fuck this shit!" and flipped the channel to the Giants/Fins. It's is feeling good. It is feeling right. I'm (quite possibly foolishly) feeling my resistance to believing McAdoo can go beyond merely improving to 8-8 start to fade. It feels right.

I'm really out out of the loop on football and just now learned that the dolphins let Lamar Miller go, wow are they fucking stupid.

The Rams are back at the Coliseum, and Minnie lives in University Park, so we're trying to avoid being there on weekends however possible.

I signed up to be part of our office's football pool again and cracked up when I logged into the website because I'd forgotten that I call myself Thrillhouse there.

My distaste for football still stands, but inasmuch as it must be acknowledged as part of the wider culture, Kaepernick can go fuck himself.

Genuinely curious as to why because he's very much not wrong and the visceral reaction to not standing during the national anthem during a preseason game that kind of proves his point.

Well, shit. That being said, there were probably still a year out, so maybe there is a silver lining of loading up on one more year of high draft picks to be had here.

The Ravens are 4-0 in the preseason! I know preseason football means very little, but I'm really happy with how we've been playing. We look strong, both on offense and defense, and I'm crossing my fingers we keep Josh Johnson as backup quarterback, but it looks like we'll probably only keep Ryan Mallett.

Not standing for our national anthem does nothing to raise the profile of police violence. That profile is already raised, and this act only draws attention to himself. If he doesn't want to love this country, he's open for criticism and perhaps should find someplace else that's more to his liking.

He's been sitting all preseason and speaking out about police violence and racial injustices for even longer. He didn't say "look at me I'm not standing!" Nobody noticed that he wasn't standing for the first two weeks. EDITED TO ADD: Looks like he kneeled during it at yesterday's game as a means to protest while still paying respects. He also plans to donate $1 million to a number of community organizations. Laughing very hard at the bolded text as it's pretty great to see the good ol' "love it or leave it" trotted out for something as simple as not standing for the national anthem.

Gonna be very interesting to see what the Packers do with their backup QB situation. Callahan has looked downright okay filling in for Hundley's absence. Will we carry 3 QBs on the 53? LET'S FIND OUT.

Could you take it to the politics thread please? We really don't need essentially the same argument with him filling every sports thread do we?

Politics go in the Politics thread on TMI, same as I said on the Olympics thread. If I see further posts of this nature here I'm going to move them and we're going to have a talk.
