My mom called me today at halftime incredibly upset about the Cardinals game. She doesn't watch football regularly. She didn't know that the game was meaningless. I told her it didn't matter at all, and that the Cards probably wouldn't even play the starters in the second half. And I had, in fact, turned the game off after Q1, because what was the point? She felt much better after that. It was completely hilarious to hear my mom so upset about a football score.
That said, hey Cards, remember that you actually have to *try* to win the games in the postseason, okay?

Skol Vikings! Arizona's defense cost me big in my other (non cash) fantasy championship. Oh well. Still have the sweet cash league dough.

The Browns have the #2 pick in the draft. Dammit Cleveland! You can't even fail correctly! Don't worry about it. You'll probably also end up with the #4 pick in the draft after Jerry Jones trades it for Johnny Manzel.

So what are some playoff predictions? I'm thinking Panthers win the nfc (I'm biased, though, but I do believe they're the best and can do it) and go up against either the Patriots or a healthy Bengals.

I'm thinking the Bengals squeak past Pittsburgh and beat the Pats then crush whoever limps out of the other side but ultimately lose to Carson Palmer and the Cardinals.

I'm thinkin' my team, the Packers, are bad, and will lose.
If this is another Seahawks / Patriots Super Bowl I may choke myself to death.
Give Me Panthers / Bengals Cat Bowl Or Give Me Death.

I think it'll be the Cards in the NFC (wouldn't mind Panthers going all the way though, but suspect Seahawks may get by them).
Unfortunately I can't see anyone stoping the Patriots in the AFC.

Ugh, I really hate the Steelers. Come on, Bengals. Do something!
Edit: Damn it, Bengals. You are fucking useless.

I hate myself for enjoying this game so much. It was just so terrible, not only from a quality of play standpoint but from a real life moral standpoint. Bernard got his brain scrambled in a way that will likely have long term effects on his health. So did Brown. People were just acting like total dicks/shitbags. Fans were throwing bottles onto the field. I'm not going to lie and say in the moment it didn't add to my enjoyment to just see shit like this go down, I guess I kinda want things to crash and burn because part of me wants to see the NFL go away? As much as I like the game of football, I just hate the body that governs the biggest sports league. I hate how people profit off of it, I hate what it does to the players I like watching. But really I just want Roger Goodell to look like a complete clown for allowing shit like this to happen.

I am beginning to hate the games this weekend. Good grief, Vikings. That was a chip shot, for crying out loud! Why are you so terrible? Hopefully Carolina can beat the Seahawks. I am sick of watching the Seahawks in the playoffs already.

They had possibly the easiest schedule of any team in decades. I hope they win too, but I wouldn't really call them favorites over Seattle, or Arizona, or New England.

It's a sad time in Minnesota. I'm not mad at Blair though. We had a handful of plays that shouldn't have made the game come down to Blair's kick. And he was the only one who scored. He was a solid kicker all year, and hit some tough kicks. Hard day to kick I imagine, and that's a lot of pressure. I hope it's a learning experience for him.

I'm not gonna lie, I laughed my fucking ass off at that hit Ben Roethlisberger took, because I hate his guts. I'm annoyed the Steelers won, but honestly, with the way the Bengals played - particularly in the last five minutes of the game - they absolutely deserved to lose. I've never seen a team lose a game so badly before due to their own shitty attitude, but there's a first time for everything, I guess.

It was hilarious. Fuck that guy and fuck the Steelers for paying off his victims. That said, if the Ravens had played in such an unsportsmanlike fashion as I saw in the last 2 minutes of that game, I would be beyond embarrassed. I imagine that Cincinnati natives have no such ability to feel, however.

Really hoping the Cardinals aren't feeling too overconfident about the beat down they put on the Packers a few weeks ago. I'm still worried they just aren't going to put the effort in.

So after 20 years of trying to get an NFL team into LA, the NFL finally got a team into LA--and it turns out to be the team that left LA 20 years ago. I've never understood the rational the Rams and Raiders had for simultaneously leaving the 2nd biggest city in the country to relocate to a mid-sized market and their old home in the shadow of a much more popular franchise, respectively. I'm even less sure of the current, seemingly desperate need to get a team back into Los Angeles, especially since the league seems to have been doing just fine without a team there.

It will be interesting to see what bogeyman NFL teams in aging stadiums use now to try and blackmail their home cities/states. Threatening to be the replacement team in St. Louis or bring the NFL to Portland or something doesn't really pack the same punch as saying you're going to rake in all the money in Los Angeles.

The biggest market without a team now is Orlando, and I'm fairly certain no current NFL city, with the possible exceptions of Tampa and Jacksonville, will take seriously any threats to move to a city with two other teams in relatively close driving distance. After that comes Sacramento, which is way too close to San Francisco and might be attractive only to the Raiders if they can't get into LA, the aforementioned St. Louis, which has already lost two NFL teams in the last 30 years, Portland, which isn't exactly known for being a pro sports town, Raleigh-Durham, which is too close to Charlotte, San Diego (if the Chargers move), Hartford, Columbus, and Salt Lake City. It's probably safe to say none of those cities are going to have teams salivating to move to them.

But I suspect they're going to use London.

I simply can't imagine a London team being viable, no matter how much of a hard-on Roger Goodell might have for the city. The networks won't like it, since it will mean only one American TV market for each game against the Monarchs or Crown Jewels or whatever the team will be called. Players won't like it because each road trip would require a cross-ocean flight every single time. Viewers won't like it because games will likely air at wacky times, like early Sunday morning. London viewers won't like it because a lot of games will probably be scheduled for American audiences, which means games might start very, very late (forget any primetime games). If a franchise does ever relocate to London, I'd except they'd be back in North America somewhere within ten seasons.

Totally agree with all your points but I still think it's going to happen at some point soon. But yeah if it lasts more than even 3 seasons it'll simply be because the league won't want to admit failure.

The problem with the idea of a London team is that the team itself is guaranteed to suck, right? I know free agency and trades are a bit less of a factor in the NFL than the other pro sports because so much of building a strong team is done through the draft, but still, who is going to want to go play or stay there? Certainly some players would latch on to the novelty of it, but it will never be a big destination team. And so, it's one thing to draw a crowd to London a couple times a year for NFL games because it's the only chance those football fans have to see the product live; it's an entirely different matter to create a profitable local fanbase for a team that will likely always struggle to be competitive.
Really if the NFL was set on expanding outside the U.S. wouldn't Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver make much more sense, even considering the CFL?
