Fruit bats = Flying foxes. Vampire Bats = Goats? Fruit bats are often called flying foxes because they look somewhat foxlike. Goats are just goats. I wasn't sure if you were equating vampire bats with goats, which seemed like a weird jab at goats considering they're fed on by the little bloodsucking sweethearts. My mind started wandering, ?devil--vampire--horns--goat?. Then once I'd finally read above, the penny dropped: William T. Goat Esq. (Will you only be covering fruit bats?)

I will only be covering fruit bats, goats are just weird. I like the idea that goats are your arch-enemies and that when you encounter each other you trade suspicious glares.

Okay, bit different thing here but want to see if anyone will pay attention and I'm sure we're all animal lovers of some stripe, maybe all besides goats. Anyway, wish to point your eyes towards an Indiegogo campaign being run by a friend whose dog has the cancer and needs treatment. Looking for donations, see what you can give to help a friend of a friend out. life.indiegogo.com/fundraisers/maxi-needs-cancer-treatment

Half-different! (No hard feelings. ) Out of curiosity Billiam Man-goat, Satyr of Action, do you tend to bounce around when walking like your legs have springs which tighten and then release at random intervals? I can get bouncy when I jog or dance, but not while walking, and not at random. I mean, it's not like I have no control over my own limbs. My knees don't "lock", which means I need to keep my quadriceps tensed just to stay upright. As a baby, I could hop around on all fours like Pepe LePew, but with all my weight on just two hooves, bouncing all the time would get too exhausting. Ooo, maybe I should start an AMA thread. That could be fun!

Since you're not going to rate the animals, I guess I'll just have to go start a Community Grade with my own contextless ratings: Sloth: C+Otter: B+

This week's animal is the fruit bat, a weird bird/rat/fox thing! Okay, that's not the best description for them but I had "snake-cats of the waterways" for otters last week and it's hard to top it.
We all know bats probably vant to suck your blahd but thing is many actually don't behave like overgrown mosquitoes, some would prefer a nice fruitbasket or bouquet if you have one going. So what's their deal? The fruit bats I mean, the rest eat bugs and aren't fit for discussion here. (not a fruitbat) The fruitbats, part of the order of Megachiroptera, are the largest type of bat and reside mainly in Southern Asia. Though part of a group which literally means "large bat", the sizes of fruitbat vary going from 2 inches upto 6 feet in wingspan and many of the bug-eater type can grow to be similar sized, just not as large. Unlike the other insect-eating cretins of the bat world, the elegant fruit bat does not rely on echolocation but instead have large eyes with which to see in the dark and will normally roost on trees, not in caves. Fruit bats eat fruit, obvious enough, they also use their long anteatery tounge to drink nectar from flowers but generally most of their "food" intake is either fruit pulp or nectar. Most bats are disease carriers but to make up for it (or make it worse), it is one of the only flying mammals and no, gliding does not count as flight, stop saying it does flying squirrels! You might also wonder why bats wrap themselves in their wings when roosting, this is for encapsulating heat in the air and lookin' goood. Mostly heat though, gets cold at night and the wings help retain and move heat around their torsos. Bat wings are generally very interesting, bats start being able to fly a few weeks from birth and the inner surfaces of their wings are like fingertips allowing them to use their wings more dexterously and quicker than birds in flight. They also have the ability to repair most small tears in their wings quickly which sounds interesting until you notice you do that too, just not with thin membranous wings but you would if you could, of course. Wings with which to swoop onto your unsuspecting victim and hug them from behind before vanishing into the night... mmm.
To end things I give you what you came for, cute pictures!

I love fruit bats! I've only ever encountered one in the wild once, when I was very young in New York. I didn't touch it because I was afraid to hurt it, but it was totally docile and cute, seemed very chill with humans. Oooh, will you be covering Wolverines, Hippo? They're bad-ass and adorable at the same time, like funky bear-dogs! ALSO: THIS THREAD RULES!

The only thing I know about the wolverine is that it's related to the otter and also called a skunkbear so sure, it's like a land-locked platypus so it's on the subs bench. Thanks for being nice about my thread!
This is also my 4,000th post, yay for me!!

Half-different! The 'T.' is for Torgo! Also I know nothing horrible about bats, so all-clear here, wouldn't want to make people sad again. But thinking of it, it's bat-related, some of them live in caves for many a generation, and very interesting eco-sytems have developed below the places the bats hang out because bat guano is very nutritious and ok I'll stop now.

Another fine installment, Hippo. I didn't realize larger bats don't use echolocation. They do have nice, large eyes. Kind-looking eyes. Unlike those beady-eyed microbat creeps that exist only to do evil. Here's a short video of fruit bats doing things. They look lovely filling the sky at dusk. video.nationalgeographic.com/video/weirdest-flying-foxOn the subject of bats in general, these are the Honduran white bats. They’re only 1-2 inches. Is heroboy like the A. A. Dowd of animal critics? The fruit bat is a solid ‘A’! I am also keen on funky bear-dogs, incidentally.

Anyways, it's a Community Grade which we've had to implement since the author loves all animals equally or something. Your rating has been noted, and we'll see how everything averages out.

ganews already backed up my point. Let's look at the facts:
1: They fly 2: They're ugly and hairy
Ergo, bugs. I don't know why you chowderheads can't understand this.
