I keep reading about these kinds of things and I just wonder why. I did not even know it was a thing to use a knife to get the nut out, I just use a spoon. Is it just so the hole looks neat and clean? Maybe a little avocado stays on the nut, but I just scrape it off with the spoon. It is all probably going to get all mushed or sliced up anyway.

It's not difficult: the trick is to use the edge of the blade, whack it into the pit, twist, and voila. Using the pointy end is ... ill-advised.

There still seem to be a lot of injuries from even that method as it involves swinging something sharp toward your hand. And accidents happen, especially with slippery fruit. Is the risk worth the nice round hole when you are just going to scoop out the flesh with a spoon anyway?

The knife method is superior because you can halve the avocado and remove the pit without setting down a utensil and picking up another one. Surely that's worth risking a finger or two?

But how do you get the meat out? Are you dicing it before scooping it out? The spoon is my next go to utensil after cutting it in half, so using a knife instead of a spoon on the pit does not save any effort. I think you all are just OCD about the satisfaction of getting the pit out cleanly at the risk of life and limb.

I will fight you on this until one of us loses a finger and/or accidentally gouges an eyeball out with a spoon.

I will assume that those three pictures are a time lapse and that the car has successfully devoured the female that was blithely lounging in its roof.
