I guess this is my very own mini-Loud thread at the moment. Anyway, does anyone know about Windhand? I just heard them on Sirius radio last night, and they're so in my wheelhouse they should have named their band Smacky's Wheelhouse. @alcapwne This is your shit for sure. Fuck yeah: Windhand - Soma
Also, anyone into Cloudkicker? I liked what I heard from them too.

I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT TOXIC HOLOCAUST TODAY. IT'S REALLY FUN BLACK THRASH! ALSO, THE GREAT UNWASHED, LONG AGO, RECOMMENDED DETHSCALATOR. THEY'RE GREAT TOO!

Unfortunately, Dethscalator are no more. Hey Colossus are good too, in a Dethscalator's slightly more serious older sibling way. I may have to give that Cloudkicker a listen later. Right now, I'm on a bit of a Soundgarden kick right this second, although this past while I've been mainly about the new Helms Alee, as it is great.

I've been listening to Destrage's new album since it got posted on MetalSucks. Slightly schizophrenic, humorous, and manacing. Plus they all look like a numetal band from 1998. Smackster, I assume you already heard this but I'm posting Casualties of Cool anyway: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNlLqvZPfI8

OK, as some of you know I'm more on the hardcore/punk/thrash end of the metal spectrum, I shy away from things that are overproduced or overly clean and safe. All that being said, recommend me something to listen to today, I don't think I've listened to one new album in 2014. What's good?

One from last year that I only found out about this year, so I'm counting it:
I'm stuck in the past. More from the tail end of last year:

Smackster, I assume you already heard this but I'm posting Casualties of Cool anyway: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNlLqvZPfI8That new Destrage records is just about the best thing in the history of ever. Their last record was so great that I'm kind of shocked how completely they trumped it with this new one. That was the kind of the record that I had to stay up late to buy as soon as it became available so I could have it on the next morning's commute. (They also sounds kind of like a nu-metal band from 1998 sometimes. I know it does them no favors, but I swear Destrage are like Puddle of Mudd if Puddle of Mudd were a sick metal band. I really mean that the best way possible. Frenetic, heavy and somehow catchy as fuck!) Also, this fucking drummer!

YES, I KNOW THAT DETHSCALATOR ARE DISBANDED, BUT WANTED TO COMMUNICATE IT VERY LOUDLY HERE. THANK YOU FOR THE COLOSSUS RECOMMENDATION, BUT IT'S NOT MY CUPPA.
THIS 'LOUD' JOKE WON'T GET OLD FOR ME.

Awesome Also, I had a listen, on bandcamp, to the previous record of a band called The Shrine, whose newest record Heller reviewed today back in the fatherland, and it is some good stuff. To repeat myself from the review over there, it works for me as I have an affinity for late-period Black Flag, and this is like a party version of that. And the cover for the new album looks like this

Just discovered Exit_International, and am digging the fuck out of them. They have a kind of Blood Brothers post-hardcore thing going on, but with two bassists and a drummer, so there's a little sludginess there too.

Motherfuckin' Sockweb strikes again! Can't wait for the full release. (father-daughter grindcore) I just finished watching this myself. I kind of feel like when I first saw the video for Guns n' Roses Estranged, which was supposed to continue telling the story from November Rain, but it just fucking confused everything and made me turn off MTV. I have no idea what happened in this video. I will be buying this when it drops though.

OH, BTW, HAVE YOU SEEN OR HEARD OF THE FILM HOUSEBOUND? APPARENTLY IT'S MAKING QUITE A STIR AT SXSW HERE IN THE STATES. PERHAPS YOU'VE ALREADY SEEN IT, AS IT IS KIWI IN ORIGIN.

Does anybody remember the band the Murderdolls from about ten or eleven years ago? They were a Wednesday 13 side project with some guys from a few other bands I was never really in love with. Their first album was really good, a punk-metal sound with catchy and legitimately clever lyrics (something I usually find lacking in heavy metal). Then they brought out a second album after a long hiatus around 2010 and from the single I heard they had completely abandoned what I liked about them and sounded like another generic metal band. Total disappointment. Had tickets to see them on that tour but they ended up cancelling it and splitting up.

Jason Heller's mention of Equal Vision Records in his Fear of Punk Decade over at the old country yesterday made me pull out some of the random mid-90s Upstate New York straightedge hardcore of my youth. Right now I am jamming the fuck out to Snapcase's Lookinglasself.

THIS COUNTRY IS LIKE IF A SMALL TOWN WAS A COUNTRY, SO YOU OFTEN DON'T HEAR ABOUT THINGS UNTIL THEY'RE RECOGNISED SOMEWHERE BIGGER FIRST, AND THEN THEY CAN BE RELEASED HERE.

Good one, judging by the first couple of tracks to hit my ears they've got some Future of the Left in them which I'm all for. Looked them up on Spotify and their Related Artists section is full of bands that are good, like Rolo Tomassi, Turbowolf and Young Legionnaire.

Is there any better feeling than discovering a new band that you're immediately over the moon for? Well right now I'm super amped about Wild Throne. Their debut EP is a whirling dervish of proggy, post-hardcore propelled by insistent percussion and singer Josh Holland's off-kilter croon. Like Deloused-era Mars Volta, only way more unhinged and much less "produced." This is music that just happens, man. Check'em on Bandcamp(They've got a few earlier tracks available under the name Dog Shredder, but they don't really speak to me. I guess it took a name change to hit their stride.)

I'm sure everyone reading this thread knows about this genre. But, I just happened upon this public access concert from 1984.

I often like this style of music, but its gratification is rarely of the instant variety. It should be yes, I later saw it pushed by Sonic Youth on my Facebook feed. That also explains why it's streaming where it is. I'll give it another try, I don't mind heavy or dissonant, but it seems both at the same time is a bit much for me these days.

I guess when you combine rapper P.O.S., that Bon Iver dude, Har Mar Superstar, and a bunch of dudes from random punk bands you get this. I'm digging their latest album, Oh My Sexy Lord, because it reminds me of the Boredoms before Eye Yamantaka turned into a hippie obsessed with drum circles and the sun only with more electronic weirdness and blast beats (which are both things I am very much in favor of). Oh and the song below's called "Ewok Sadness" and it is fucking insane.
