Just watched the first episode of this newest MARVEL/Netflix show this afternoon AND OH MY GOD ITS EXCELLENT.
I was totally not expecting the pervasive noir atmosphere, but I'm loving it. Krysten Ritter is killing it as the lead and the darker content is being handled expertfully well thus far. Can't wait to binge watch the rest.

Yeah I just finished it. As I opined on the Shoutbox, I think 2015 is the year Marvel's 'Cinematic' Universe became better on television than it's been in cinema - between Agent Carter, Daredevil and this.

@matt1 To be clear I'm actually comparing them to all the Marvel cinematic movies.

I got irrationally angry when I thought the very tiny amount of snow was gonna knock out our internet services, not because I would be very sad without the internet (though I would be) but because I wanted to watch as much as I can of this before doing out later today.
Thankfully it seems to be okay for now. Anyway, love it so far after the pilot.

I half-rambled about this elsewhere, but Kilgrave really works as an allegory of entitlement; so used to having everything his way he completely lacks any real empathy for other people - how he sees them is more important to him than any attempt to make him understand how they feel.

I've seen only two episodes so far, but you bring an interesting point. Already Kilgrave does indeed seem to be one completely evil villain in the Marvel canon, whereas Fisk in Daredevil still had some humanity left (his relationship with Vanessa being the main indicator) and that made him the most compelling part of that show. David Tennant seems to be doing his best to put as much unadulaterated malice in his voice as possible. I hope this doesn't mean he will turn in a forgettable villain like all those ones in the movies. This is a very beautiful looking show, with such vibrant colours, for all its noir influences. And it is very funny, in a subtle way. I'm looking forward to binge-watching the rest of it later today.

Sanziana Oh trust me, Kilgrave is as memorable as Fisk - and as human, but human in a very distressing kind of way.

Douay-Rheims-Challoner I've just finished episode 7 and him grinning like a maniac while looking at that door was the creepiest thing that has happened in this show. He's a very puzzling fellow, I'll give him that. This is off topic, but will there be a season 4 of Moone Boy? The Internet tells me confusing things. Maybe you know more.

Sanziana More than the Internet not really. I do know they've talked about ending it with a movie for years so that may still happen.

Watched the first episode, I really really liked it. Pretty much feels like vernoica mars with superpowers and explicit sex.
One thing I didn't like which is a pet peeve of TV in general. Oh, this person is damaged let's make sure we get the point across with as much showing of booze as possible, it's edgy! Just once I would like to see an antihero that is a teetotaler and not a recovering alcoholic at the same time.

In my experience, seeing a sober person on TV (assuming they haven't been an alcoholic in the past) means they're probably a villain.

We watched the first four episodes over the weekend. Really enjoying it so far. It's got a confidence that Daredevil lacked; probably the benefit of being the second one to air.

Carrie-Anne Moss is just the best in this. I missed seeing her being all icy and determined. Also David Tennant is far more entertaining when playing the villain rather than the hero.

I'm into it 5 episodes so far - I had to watch other stuff in between episodes for a break. I'm really liking it and I'm not really into comic books or the Marvel universe. I tried to watch Daredevil and bailed I think at the beginning of the 3rd episode (the one in the bowling alley). I did start The Flash a week or so ago and like it so far (I think I've seen only 3 or 4 episodes though).
David Tennant really does play a villain well - I don't know if anyone has seen Secret Smile (?) - it's a movie with Tennant as the bad guy and he is very effective!

Oh yeah, the opening credits are much much better visually than Daredevil. On daredevil it looks unfinished, literally like I'm looking at something that is sitting halfway done on a hard drive. Just too much red. Jessica Jones however is just perfect, visually.

I kept trying to figure out what Kilgrave's power was making me think of and I just remembered today: the Graceling series by Kristen Cashore. The antagonist, King Leck, can control and influence people with his words. On top of that, the people know they are being influenced as it happens but they forget after they leave his immediate area of influence and instead spread stories about how kind and amazing he is, because that is suddenly what they actually belief. It's incredibly creepy and I loved seeing how the show had something similar play out.
Anyway, if anyone else found that power just as terrifying, I highly recommend the book series.

I'm at the halfway point and I just love the real sense of dread and danger this show has. It doesn't pull any punches, which actually makes it hard for me to binge watch - I can only take 2 episodes at a time. And because the cast is so good, the story doesn't drag when we're not with Jessica. I'm just praying Malcolm survives and gets his life together - comics readers, please do not spoil!

I can't binge watch it either. I watched 5 episodes this weekend and had to take a break because it's just SO INTENSE. Amazing, and deserving of all the hype, but it's a very 'heavy' show psychologically speaking. I'm someone with very few triggers, fortunately, but it even gets to me if I watch too much at a time.
My involuntary reaction to Killgrave is shuddering and yelling, "you're disgusting, just DIE already, fuck, ew" because he skeeves me out just that much. I literally can't stop myself from doing it every time I see or hear him.
Krysten Ritter and Rachael Taylor are luminescent.

He makes the back half of the show fun, in addition to commanding real menace, which is quite an achievement. Definitely one of the most memorable performances of a comic book villain in recent times.

He's achieving the skin-crawling skeeziness that the character requires, although I'm not thrilled that in interviews, Tennant keeps trying to insist on sympathizing with Killgrave. Like, no. He's literally a mind-controlling abuser and rapist. I think it's okay to not sympathize with him. I could also do without the fangirls... In other news, Jess and Trish's friendship is so fucking great. I love it. I adore Trish so much I cringe from secondhand embarrassment whenever a random character goes, "Patsy, I loved your show!" and starts singing the theme song.

Just finished the last 3 and impressed as hell. Going to leave this here... a piece on the Kilgrave romance fandom. Yes, it's a thing. The author of the piece doesn't condemn the women who are in this - problematic faves, complex desires etc - but notes how very iffy an idea it is. Me? I'm with Andrew Vachss: if you allow an abuser the excuse that they were themselves abused, it pisses on all the other survivors of abuse who did not emulate the abusers.

I've stalled out on this show. I'm not sure why. I finished through ep. 8, but can't seem to move on.

The performances are very good across the board and it has certain scenes and elements I really like but on some level I felt like I appreciated what it was going for more than I was really engaged with the viewing experience.

What Telly said. I don't care enough about this show to write a post about why I don't think it's very good.
