Darth Vader and Darth Nihilus. Yes, I realize how goddamn ridiculous the latter is.

I think my age when PM came out is keeping me from thinking clearly on this but dammit I just love Maul, he's so cool!

Darth Maul was great before the cartoon ruined him

Ray Park was great as Darth Maul, so much so that they had to make him do a staff-twirl as Toad in 2000's X-Men. Too bad his characters get so wasted.

Darth Maul was great before the cartoon ruined him Oh was he bad in clone wars? I don't know what the general consensus is but yes, I thought it was really bad

Darth Maul was great before the cartoon ruined him Oh was he bad in clone wars? I thought he was great in Clone Wars - bringing Maul back at all was a dumb idea, but Clone Wars found a way to make it work. Anyway I suspect one reason they didn't get Serafoniwicz back to voice Maul was he's not likely to be available (the cartoons have only sporadically used VAs from the movies, with Anthony Daniels being the most consistent because he will play C-3PO in literally anything) but they got Sam Witwer on the strength of his performance as the Son, one of the options in the poll up there.

How are more people not choosing the Emperor? He has the best laugh.

I originally voted Vader and Kylo but I changed Vader to Emperor due to him being one of the only good actors in the prequels

Definitely the Emperor. Not even close. He's the only character who makes me think there might be a reason to join the Dark Side.

Vader and Kylo Ren. Runner-up is the Emperor.
I would say I'm a film purist by rejecting all these cool EU characters but then again I'm liking the brand new movie which is embracing the new.

I chose emperor and kylo ren. The emperor because, no shit, he is clearly the best villain. Just so damn evil and creepy. And nothing else in star wars can top the opera scene as far as acting goes. And I chose Kylo Ren because he is such a fascinating character. Darth Vader was merely cool for the first two movies, it wasn't until the very end of empire where we get some real depth and shading with him, and even then it isn't a lot. He is just that menacing guy our heroes have to face, which works because the films do work and just his presence is effective enough. But his character isn't all that interesting till ROTJ. Kylo Ren is just a great character with real depth to him from the start. Also, not a child murderer.

Much more interesting than Darth Vader. Even after all the prequels. even with the prequels I consider anakin and Vader "different characters" in a way. And I find anakin, when you add in the clone wars cartoons, to also be more interesting. Not cooler, but more interesting.

At least you folks aren't completely insane. Vader and the Emperor are the only sensible choices for the top spots, just because of the strength of the central narrative in the Original Trilogy. However, if we are counting the EU, after those two, there is another, though by her own admission, she both qualifies and yet does not...

I want to be clear that when I vote for Darth Vader I am voting specifically for "Darth Vader, Star Wars," not "Darth Vader, Revenge of the Sith." I want that cocky rogue who's got his own thing going on within the Empire, to the extent that Imperial officers feel free to talk shit about him and the Dark Side -- until they don't!
