It's time for major publications to start their end-of-year trend roundups, but since most of those are behind paywalls, I'm submitting the Guardian (of which I am a paid subscriber, but you don't have to be) list for 'hot or not' consideration: www.theguardian.com/fashion/2020/dec/09/25-of-the-most-unexpected-items-of-2020My takes: 1. desk plants - HOT plants are always cool 2. milk frothers - HOT great for hot chocolate too 3. house dresses - HOT dresses are underrated 4. buzzcuts - HOT all haircuts welcome, we have bigger shit to stress about 5. affordable IT bag - LUKEWARM I like the Telfar design, though $200 is still a lot to pay for Vegan leather (aka pleather) 6. weighted blanket - never tried one, but HOT, sleep is outstanding 7. face mask - HOT wear them please 8. vote merch - NOT impressed by most of the designs I saw 9. very ugly shoes - NOT now, not ever 10. chain necklace - NOT attractive on anybody, IMO 11. retinol - HOT you must use it consistently, but it does 'work' 12. crescent moon print - HOT as a muslim goth, I am totally here for this trend 13. ring flash - LUKEWARM? I got one that clips to my phone but I don't see an improvement from it. I like the idea of good lighting, but have yet to determine what that is for a brown person. 14. TV coat - NOT the color is horrid and I hate coats of that length, though I generally approve of astrakhan fleece 15. Zoom shirts - NOT this is stupid, people should be able to wear whatever they want in their house and they don't need to appear on camera unless they want to (in which case, yeah, be presentable) 16. white converse - LUKEWARM I've never been a fan of Chucks, though I see why they are popular with people who want to come across as relatable/approachable 17. elasticated waists - HOT people come in all sizes and not everyone can afford a tailor 18. 8p dresses - NOT death to fast fashion, we must find a middle ground of decent wages and quality sustainable materials in the garment industry 19. a wooden staff - NOT unless you're hot without one, and Dominic Cummings certainly isn't either way 20. study girl meme - HOT Ghibli + chill beats always on point 21. meaningful hats - NOT lets just wear regular hats for a while 22. tie dye - NOT hate, hate, hate my most hated print 23. candles - HOT they make your house smell nice 24. benches - HOT some of my favorite places to sit all over the world 25. bluicers - LUKEWARM I don't use mine enough but in theory it's a good thing

I have probably spent $200 on plants, pots, gravel and dirt since this pandemic.
Also, I have recently bought a bunch of candles. Also, anytime I go to buy candles there are very few left so it looks like Iam on trend.
Just lounging on my couch, in my leggings, while I smell my pine scent candle and watch a movie on a streaming service I splurged on.

I bought a pair of Champion joggers, because who doesn't like a comfy pair of pants with pockets. Wish I had gone down a size.

I spent today in my Roots joggers arranging a water garden on my dining room table (the regular houseplants are just chillin' - I only bought one new one for $10 to support BLM). Yesterday I was in leggings and burning a new candle in my room to dissipate cooking smells. Right after this, I'm probably going to stream Krush Groove on Amazon Prime. I am OK with this being life from now on.

Today's wormhole was sneaker shopping videos and I simply must share this one. Favorite of many hilarious comments: "This is why you should send your children to public school."

Facebook keeps recommending Japanese-style harem pants to me, and yes, I do want them but I still won't buy any clothes I haven't tried on first. The only new clothes I've bought in pandemic times are exercise stuff like running shoes and snowboarding gloves (I don't snowboard, it's just that it's been really cold and my normal running gloves are too thin so I got these ones instead). I guess I'm sticking to my 2019 wardrobe until everyone's been vaccinated. I miss spending a day shopping for clothes and then watching a movie afterwards.

sarapen I guess there’s the option of ordering, trying on, and then returning, but I have to admit I’ve never really gotten the hang of that, either (or even an option since I only get very on sale, NOS or vintage, for the most part). I’ve been doing clothing shopping almost exclusively online for a while, though, in part bc of size (thin 173cm), in part bc I’ve gotten extra-picky and in part bc I feel I have everything I need and something really has to get my attention. It’s been a better year for culling, actually. I dress now as I dressed before the pandemic, and constantly being at home has allowed me to cull a lot. Some of it’s good enough for eBay or grailed, too, but I’ve been procrastinating actually setting that up (not due to any attachment to the clothes—god no—but the whole mailing thing seems a minor hassle, exp. since I don’t have a printer at home). Sending stuff back feels wasteful to me, and as you mentioned, is also a pain in the ass. Come to think of it, I'm not sure they're even in stores over here so I might not be able to buy them even with no pandemic. Oh well, there's probably something close to it in Uniqlo or Muji.

Can someone who is better at fashion than me explain why this 1970s-ass-looking T-shirt is listed for eight hundred and sixty actual United States dollars of real money?

Can someone who is better at fashion than me explain why this 1970s-ass-looking T-shirt is listed for eight hundred and sixty actual United States dollars of real money? Because - sad as it is - capitalist indoctrination has caused young people (particularly those of color) to gauge their self-worth in terms of how expensive their clothes are. As a result, an established fashion house like Dior, which is owned by a multinational conglomerate, can increase their profit margins by charging couture (custom, hand-made) prices for cheap, commercially manufactured garments.

Is anyone else considering burning their Biden Bux on a shit ton of clothes in the hopes of emerging from the chrysalis of COVID stay-at-home orders as a chic social butterfly? Just me? OK.
For real, though, I feel very alone in suddenly thinking "gee, maybe I should make some effort towards being fashionable when this is over" - or at the very least, "do I really want to go back to wearing the same unwashed pair of cargo pants every day for three months, damnit?"

After paying for some dental stuff, I plan to spend some bux on some nice bed sheets. As some discussed in another thread, flannel sheets are not all year round sheets, but those are what I have right now. Trying to convenience myself to spend more than $40 on some bedsheets, but all the nice fairtrade sheets are $200+ a set. Can't do it. Also, through the pandemic I have tried to give my money to black owned and/or ethical companies, when I could afford it. Anyone like their bedsheets and gor any recs for a set that costs about $80 a set?

They are very soft, breathable and don’t get too hot. You can buy on Amazon or through their website. I got the microfiber but they also have cotton, percale, etc. they're less than $80/set but I think they’re pretty high quality.

Anyone like their bedsheets and gor any recs for a set that costs about $80 a set? I usually go to Marshall's to see if I can find a deal on designer sheet sets for $40-60. It takes some digging, but I've found 100% cotton with at least 450 thread count in that range. For Fair Trade, I'd like to get sheets from Pact, since I like their clothes and towels, but even with 20% off they'd be around $200

I most definitely did this with the first Trump bux deposit I got. Back in the summer retailers were really hurting. I got a wide selection of clothing at anywhere from 60%-80% off. Not necessarily office clothing, but I got 4 pairs of really nice shorts. I did get several linen tops that are office appropriate. And a couple of cute dresses that would be work appropriate if our office wasn't so cold that I shiver if I wear a skirt/dress.
I am intending to use the Biden bux to pay down my credit card, though. We'll see. I will browse my favorite clothing sites first. If I see office appropriate stuff I may buy a few things before I use the rest to pay down my CC.

So far I've spent my Bidenbux on repairs to my concrete steps and Daft Punk action figures for a Lolla '07 diorama I'm going to make...don't ask.

Not sure if anyone here has any recs, but let's give it a shot.
I am looking for A) comfy, cute slip-on shoes or sturdy sandals that are good for walking (like, touristy walking, not hiking or anything) and won't kill my feet in the meantime
B) knee-length Bermuda shorts or cropped capris - specifically right around the knee; I can't stand shorts that cut my thigh in half, but if they're too long they just look weird - suitable for a woman in the upper-ranges of "straight" sizes

I need a slender ballet flat or Toms slip on sized shoe that is comfy to walk in, and has a dark sole. Does that exist? I just want a pair of work appropriate shoe that I can walk to the train station in, and pairs well with a dress/slacks/or jeans. I was thinking of these, until I thought about how the white sole may look weird with more colorful dresses or dark clothing I have...or maybe these are good enough...hmmm.

Skechers has some darker soled options.

So I went to the clearance section of DSW and walked away with the complete opposite of what I was looking for. Instead of getting something subtle and bland, that would also be comfy to walk in; I got the ugliest shoe possible. They are comfy to walk in, but the opening is still tight and puts a lot of pressure on the top of my foot.

While searching for work clothes, I kept gravitating toward leopard print clothes.
Am I leopard print age now ? I had to walk into a Talbots just to see what was going on with me. Thankfully I am not in the Talbots stage of my life.
I am in the Ann Taylor stage though.

Why do jeans come in different fits if the only thing different about them is their color? Bought two pair in the same style and size from the same company. These are straight leg jeans. The dark wash pair are a much looser fit, almost to being classified as baggy. The more traditional blue color have a much slimmer fit, more in line with what I thought I was getting.
I'm keeping the darker pair anyway, since more relaxed jean styles are coming back into fashion. I have seen some places selling almost 90's-style baggy jeans. It was kind of shocking to see!
