"Don't" is so much better than everything I'd previously heard from Ed Sheeran that I'm starting to wonder if I was wrong to dismiss him out of hand.

I'm not into metal, but the story of this band is completely insane: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayhem_(band) The guitarist drove the lead singer to suicide, they burned down a bunch of churches and planned various acts of terrorism, the guitarist was later stabbed to death by the bassist, and the band still performs today.

I love Jerry Garcia. I just do. His voice is like a comfy blanket to me. Think I'll listen to JGB all day and annoy the yoga moms.

Listened to "Jenny Ondioline" earlier, then went down the last.fm Stereolab Similar Artists rabbit hole. I don't know why I haven't done this sooner. So far: Broadcast, Electrelane, Moonshake, and Pram. Lush as fuck.

So far: Broadcast, Electrelane, Moonshake, and Pram. Lush as fuck. Oh man. Jenny Ondioline. I have it on now and it's LOUD. This is the Sterolab that I love the best - the driving, rhythmic build that just goes and goes.

Tunnel Of Love by Dire Straits makes me feel homesick even when I'm at home. Sweet guitar playing at the end, too.

I miss Glenn Frey.
I mean, I wasn't a superfan or anything, but I'm sitting out on the patio in the dark drinking wine and listening to the softer, more country Eagles songs. He had such a sweet voice.

Of all the songs played on indie radio stations, "Thou Shalt Always Kill" by dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip is probably the most likely to make me want to smash whatever device is playing it.

Every time I hear a song by Camper Van Beethoven I'm just disappointed I'm not listening to Cracker.

Then He Kissed Me by The Crystals is immeasurably improved by having them sing in their New York accents; punk as fuck.

Best take on the blues by a white band? Led Zeppelin, When The Levee BreaksThe Rolling Stones, Midnight RamblerCream, CrossroadsI recall a strip of "The Boondocks" where Huey wants to buy a blues CD for his grandfather's birthday. The record store clerk doesn't really know what to give him. Huey suggests Clarence Carter; the clerk says they have some Eric Clapton; Huey threatens to smack the clerk. Now, I appreciate the idea that a white blues-rocker being held up as superior to a black bluesman is distasteful, and it fits Aaron McGruder's commentary. But to pick a novelty like Clarence Carter from a wealth of black blues artists, including many recognizable to the general public, is just weird. Like, maybe he could have said Keb' Mo', to give some recognition to someone active but obscure relative to an elder statesman like, say, B.B. King. It made me wonder if Aaron McGruder had ever listened to any blues by anyone, white or black, of if he had just been at a party where someone put on "Strokin'" for a laugh.

Hey, "High Fidelity" is on. Let's play the Top Five game. Directly from the movie, top five side one track ones off the top of my head, but in no particular order:
Immigrant Song, Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin III Devil's Haircut, Beck, Odelay! Seven Nation Army, White Stripes, Elephant My Name is Jonas, Weezer, Weezer (blue) Taxman, The Beatles, Revolver (yes, in the movie Jack Black mocks John Cusack's safe choices and suggests the Beatles)

"Age of Consent", New Order, Power, Corruption & Lies "Finest Worksong", R.E.M., Document "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough", Michael Jackson, Off The Wall "Welcome to the Jungle", Gun N' Roses, Appetite for Destruction "Let's Go Crazy", Prince, Purple Rain
Honestly I kind of hate myself for "Welcome to the Jungle", but once it came to mind I couldn't deny it.

Bon Iver just dropped two new tracks... the sensitive indie folkster jokes are gonna end after this album.
Seems like he's making his Age of Adz - nothing but a good thing in my book.

I imagine that people who think calling music "wussy" is a valid criticism must subsist entirely on dated hair metal.

The amount of metalheads who are apparently super into Frasier is a little surprising. I guess I chose the right shirt for this festival!
