ABz B👹anaz In a way, it's deeply unsurprising - the same music cue, the gang together, a wry moment of Drax cutting through the social niceties - but hey, that's one wants from a GOTG sequel: More of what made the last film one of the most fun pictures of 2014.

This may be the only thing any of us have to look forward to at this point.

This may be the only thing any of us have to look forward to at this point. I don't know - 2017 will also give us Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, which looks utterly delightful (and is clearly the movie Luc Besson's wanted to make since Fifth Element) to say nothing of the next Star Wars, a Taika Waititi Thor film, and, well, the Belko Experiment, for those James Gunn fans out there. This trailer's a ton of fun, though. Reminds me of why I even go to these Marvel movies at all.

Assuming the planet makes it that long, true. I think civilization will at least probably still be going in early May.

Wow, that new trailer is great. So much more inspiring than the first retread teaser.

NEW New Trailer! "DIE, SPACESHIP!" Yup, still looks awesome. I want Kurt Russell to be my space-dad.

I'm now at the "not watching trailers" point with this. I know I'm going to see it; I want to be as fresh as possible when I do.

Couple hours after seeing it. I get the criticisms of it, but overall, it's a heck of a ride (with better villains than the last one, and its focus on character over plot mostly serves it well.)
Ben Browder's cameo is great, too - he says his handful of lines in the same voice Crichton used when pretending to be a Peacekeeper.

Wow...it's been out nearly a week, and no one has said anything about the actual movie?
I liked it a lot--more than the first one, actually. My only real disappointment--they had Tango, they had Cash, but they never had Tango & Cash.

My only real disappointment--they had Tango, they had Cash, but they never had Tango & Cash. Oh shit, missed opportunity! I never realized it, but by Jove you're right.
Me, I liked the first one more but this is also solidly entertaining. I appreciated the callouts to Last Starfighter. When did Quill leave Earth again? It would have been pretty trippy if he recognized that the movie he was in was making references to a movie he'd seen when he was a kid.
Also, if anyone was on Shoutbox a few days ago they will recognize I called it with the Adam thing. Initially from the teaser pics I'd thought that they were going to do a thing with Mantis and her Celestial Madonna shtick, but maybe that'll be for #3.
Also I thought Celestials were those cosmic giants from the first movie.

Also I thought Celestials were those cosmic giants from the first movie. They are, at least in the comics. Ego predates the Celestials by about a decade. My guess is that the in-universe explanation is that Celestial encompasses a broader category here - probably including all cosmic beings - or that Ego simply turned out differently because he didn't have anybody to guide him.

Stop me if this has already been the subject of a thousand thinkpieces (I haven't been paying attention), but is the underlying thesis of GotG2 that absentee parents (Ego) are bigger villains than abusive ones (Yondu), at least if in the end you learn that the abusive one loved you deep down underneath it all?

I'm pretty sure Ego turned out to be more abusive than Yondu.
