But ... but you guys: I LOVE cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving. It's sweet and tangy and a tiny bit bitter, and cuts through the rich fatty savoriness of the rest of the meal. It's like tomato chutney with pakora. You and I can sit over here with our giant mounds of cranberry sauce and the haters can go faff around with green bean casserole. I love it too.

I have to keep reminding myself Thanksgiving is already over. Some part of me keeps expecting it still.

I'm fully committed to just going to a restaurant next year. It'll still annoy my BIL, and I won't have to do any work!

A nice, fruity condiment to compliment the unctuous deliciousness of the duck - perfection! (ps I make a mean Mandarin pancake, and can make them quickly and in great quantity - PRESS ME INTO SERVICE WILL WIELD ROLLING PIN FOR DUCK MEAT)

And, songstarliner, spill on your mandarin pancake making technique! My mom once made moo shu pork and pancakes from scratch. "NEVER AGAIN!" she declared, before we had even sat down to eat it.

I'LL NEVER TELL! Just kidding. Here's a great tutorial. Anyway, my 'secret' is commitment to drudgery: shape a hundred baguettes, roll a hundred stuffed grape leaves, stuff a hundred pierogies, make a hundred pancakes. Oh hello, carpal tunnel syndrome, my repetitive motion injury, my nemesis.

Ha. My family does real, from-scratch whole berry cranberry sauce and the cranberry jello from the can, because different people like each of them. I'll usually take one bite of the whole berry kind. Although, I'm trying to summon the strength tomorrow morning to make this cranberry-lime pie. I mean, I already bought all the ingredients for it. So I really should. That pie looks fantastic and I'm gonna make one at the first opportunity. SLOWIt turned out super well. I have very little experience making pies or desserts of any kind, so I'm really pleased at how well the curd set. And that color!
