"________________ is woke" Ok, I have a general idea what this means just from context, awareness, etc. but it's really damned annoying. Use proper tenses people, it's a pretty nice language we've got here! Yeah, but being "woke" is different from being "awake". And it stems from AAVE where that sort of verb tense is generally acceptable. (I am neither black nor a serious linguist so you may take this with a grain of salt.) it would be so much easier to just say the verblacular. |

I confess I do not know: -why people write "slay kween" -whether people are kidding when they talk about Hamilton being garbage -whether intentionally misspelling words is supposed to be funny or whether it's simply meant to indicate that you are part of a movement or mindset -whether the chapo trap chaps are serious when they say Clinton should be imprisoned, and if so for what exactly -what the fuck an "elite" is Say this to my face, billy! |

I saw the elf of a shelf today on Facebook. It's disgusting and I hate it and am glad that it's not a thing that has spread outside of (North?) America and so I won't ever have to really deal with it via my daughter's classmates being like, "WHAT?! YOU DON'T HAVE THE ELF OF A SHELF?! HOW COME?!" and the subsequent, "Dad we neeeeeeeeeeed elf of a shelf! Everyone at school has the elf of a shelf..." whining.
