I could swear we had one of these, but I couldn't find it, so here's another one.
Trying to figure out what a movie was based on some half-remembered scenes? Maybe we can help!
I'll start:
70s/early 80s horror movie where there was a scene of a white statue on a dark/black background, possibly of Jesus or some other notable figure, and the scene was cutting back and forth between this statue shaking and falling apart, and another scene of violence?
(Note the timeframe - This is not Exorcist 3 with the hedge trimmer/headless statue jump cut, though the scene I'm thinking of is somewhat similar in theme)

Someone gets killed with an iron to the face, also.

I found a scene in it where Damien cuts his hands on the thorns on the Jesus statue, but no scene of it falling down and breaking apart unless I missed that in my skimming?

I'm not sure - it's actually not that long since I watched it, but sadly it's one of the least memorable films I've ever seen. If it happens, it'll be at the end, I would think. If not, happy hunting.

Thanks!
Yeah, I remember watching a "marathon" of those movies that stupidly only had 1 and 3, and I fell asleep during 3 because it was fucking boring. So I had hope that maybe that was it and I missed it a decade ago!
Nope, the end has him get stabbed and a big image of Jesus appear...but no statue.

I'm thinking maybe "Amityville Horror"? Been a long time since I've seen it, but the imagery rings a bell.

More dumb than scary, and I don't specifically remember a statue involved anywhere. Maybe one of the sequels, if they also were released in the early 80s? The closest thing I've come to the atmosphere (but not the one I was looking for) was the end of Burnt Offerings. Jesus, that whole end sequence was creepy.

This reminded me though - was there another haunted house/mansion movie out around that same time period, that involved someone trying to escape the grounds and getting crushed by the giant metal gate out front? That might be the same movie I'm looking for, or a different one...
EDIT - I think this is "This House Possessed".

HOLY SHIT - I think I might have been barking up the wrong genre tree this whole time.
Clash of the Titans (1981) has a breaking statue scene, and the head comes to life and talks, then it crumbles some more.

Your description also gave me flashes of the endings of Krull and Legend, too. I seem to recall both going into sort of surrealistic dreamscapes as their respective princesses are menaced by Darkness/The Beast. I can picture The Beast crumbling in a very "broken statue" kind of way, I think. My memory of Legend is less clear.
ETA: On further reflection, now I'm thinking that I conflated the death of The Beast and the crumbling of his Black Fortress with the death-by-Medusa of the Kraken at the end of the already-mentioned Clash of the Titans. But I can't find any clips of the final battle in Krull to sort myself out. But I definitely know the scene is trippy and has some weird cuts.

Man, Clash of the Titans—I still don’t know what to make of it. You get the feeling that, if it were made sometime before 1966, it would have been a great Harryhousen adventure film à la Jason & the Argonauts, and from what I remember when they’re off on the adventure—meeting the Graea and encountering Medusa and such—it actually is great. But it was just made too late—so much about the film just screams late seventies (even having an R2D2 knock-off) and just toeing the line uncomfortably between camp and unironically playing it straight that is just feels so off.
