I don't care if Cate Blanchett is just tall, when she catches that hammer, I'm totally into it.
Anyway, this looks fun. I hope it's fun.

That's a hell of a trailer. The wild font in the inter titles put me over the top.

I've fallen well off the superhero movie train on account of being tired of them across the board and on one hand this trailer is (naturally) taking big cues from the Guardians playbook......but god dammit colorful space adventure and evil Cate Blanchett looks fun.

I've enjoyed almost all the MCU movies to some degree or another except Iron Man 2 and Thor Dark World. And really I only didn't like TDW because I couldn't remember a thing about it the next day. But this looks like a great course correction.

Patrick Batman: Literally the only notable thing about it is that they used makeup to make Cate Blanchett look like Claire Forlani and I can't help thinking Claire Forlani would have been cheaper Otherwise YAWN CITY I bet you don't like puppies either.

I like puppies enough to not insult them by comparing them to this.

The MCU has gone from trash to less trash, as I really liked Guardians 2 and am really looking forward to Ragnarok and Black Panther. Still don't care for like the 10+ other movies though.

what happened to @patrickbatman 's post? I cleared it out. I tend to do that when I hit 34 pages of posts--too cluttered. I'm a weirdo Ah, good. I was going to berate you for not standing by your opinion. Weirdos are fine by me

Chris Hemsworth said in an EW interview that "He's a friend from work" came from a Make-a-Wish kid on the set of the film:

I absolutely loved this movie. It was funny, and well written, and had lots of great action scenes and hit some genuine emotional beats. I'm pleased, too, with the level of character development that went on, which is unusual in a superhero movie, at least in my opinion. I'm still digesting some of it, but - wow. I loved the special effects. It was like being plunged right into a comic book in the best possible way. Also, how iconic is Valkyrie's introduction, where she finishes off a 40-ounce bottle of what appears to be Old English malt liquor, falls off the ramp of her spaceship, then proceeds to take out several dozen scavengers? Four for you, Taika Waititi.

We saw it this morning and absolutely loved it. Just pure comic book fun start to finish. Valkyrie was such an upgrade to Jane that it's ridiculous.

That was TONS of fun! The only (completely spoiler free) thing I didn't like is that while Blanchett's horns were fantastic, her actual costume looked a bit cheap/silly. But I think that also may have been on purpose with the very old-school aesthetic in some places, and was me being too picky anyway.

I know it would have been really difficult to keep Ruffalo's involvement secret, but it would have been amazing if the gladiator scene wasn't in the trailer. I would love to have been as surprised as Thor by the reveal.

Having watched it, I have many thoughts and mixed feelings about the light/comedic tone for the Asgardian characters. I really bought into the majestic sincerity of the original Thor film, and while Hemsworth is great with humor I'd have preferred the film to skew a bit more towards the serious. The best parts of Ragnarok had me as engaged as anything else in the MCU so far and there is a lot of humor and fun design work, and it's probably good for the character that this film is more widely entertaining than the previous two.
I am a little disappointed in Blanchett's villain, who I expected to be more...dramatic? Maybe that's not the right word, but this feels like a milder Ultron effect, in which trailers tease something that (to me anyway) the film itself doesn't entirely deliver.

Blanchett's part is quite badly under-written, in fact. The movie itself is terrific, and Blanchett is clearly absolutely loving every second of getting to be an Evil Undefeatable Queen (who is defeated), but all she's actually required to do is stand there and glower while lots of special effects whizz around her. The film could have stood to lose a couple of the comedic scenes at the gladiatorial ring (which in honestly is, while mostly very funny, also just stalling until we get to the big showdown at Asgard) to give her at least a little more space to be fleshed out.

Valkyrie's flashback to the attack on Hela is, I think, the most visually beautiful bit of film in the entire MCU.

You know what's bugging me? That Skurge was able to kill undead Asgardians with M-16s. I wish there had been a line about souping them up with like dwarf star bullets or something.
Also, I can't believe I didn't recognize Beta Ray Bill's face. I assume neither he nor his species will ever show up in the MCU barring some joke character thing (see how the Frog Thor story was just casually mentioned in the play) but one may dream.
However, I really hope Thunderstrike never, ever, shows up on screen.

It's from a classic Walt Simonson story from the comics, and it wasn't explained there, either. I guess Asgardian zombies just aren't immune to bullets.

NB - when I went to the US I crossed via the Rainbow Bridge. And instead of a frost giant there was a surly Russian guy I had to give my passport to.

That was fun! I like the risks they made with this movie like destroying the hammer and Thor loosing the eye. I wish the large dog got to live. I was hoping Hulk was able to tame it and they could become friends or something.
