Clearly the best soup is solyanka. "Russian Pickle Soup" is a pretty unappealing combination of words, but thanks to your urging last year, I'm willing to cosign on this.

I love borscht, too, but solyanka is just so satisfying and hits all those sour-sweet-spicy-salty notes I like.

Italian sausage and kale is another strong, strong contender in the write-in categories.

Italian sausage and kale is another strong, strong contender in the write-in categories. Not exactly the same, but over in the International Poll there's Caldo Verde which is Portuguese but sounds pretty similar, except some people swear by collard greens while others use kale. In either case pretty damned delicious. www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2017/01/caldo-verde-portuguese-potato-kale-soup-recipe.htmlThe hard thing about choosing a single soup is while something like this is delicious, how do you compare it with a Tom Kha, a Ramen, or a Lobster Bisque? They are such completely different beasts it's hard to rank them. Whoever made this poll single question should be boiled in highly salted water.

You'd want to hire someone with a degree in Bisque Management to make sure everything was running smoothly. They'd have to exercise regularly, to increase their bisque tolerance. I was involved with a bit of a controversial group in the summer of '98 when I was visiting Spain and am worried it could be seen as disqualifying. To be completely up front about it, I have associated with and supported Bisque Separatists.
