Orson Bean, 91, and rather terribly, too: Good. I hope his final minutes were agonizing. Did you know Orson Bean was responsible for Breitbart? On the other hand I always enjoyed the 70’s Hobbit cartoon.

On the other hand I always enjoyed the 70’s Hobbit cartoon. He wasn't responsible for Breitbart; Andrew Breitbart just happened to marry one of his daughters. I don't think Orson Bean funded that in any way -- in fact, he seems to've been quite hep to the music of the day, since he mentioned the Trashmen's "Surfin' Bird" in the episode of I've Got A Secret where Berry Gordy showed up.

Holy fuck, death comin' for everybody, these days; Robert Conrad -- Mr. James West, desperado, no you don't want nada -- has died. Only 84; I thought he was older than that. Also, famously (?), played the cop who torments Arnold Schwarzenegger in the holiday classic Jingle All Zee Vay.

I watched a ton of Wild, Wild West reruns in middle school. It’s hard to believe that there were only 4 seasons, because I feel like I watched closer to 500 episodes than 100. Whoever came up with the idea “What if James Bond, but in the American West?” was a genius.

I read in “The Unwinding” by George Packer that at Breitbart was originally apolitical but Bean convinced him to follow Rush Limbaugh.

DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall, one of the more refreshingly angst-free Englishmen of our time.

Diana Serra Cary, the very last silent film star and silent film child star, who was known as "Baby Peggy" in her prime, died yesterday at age 101. What a long, incredible life. What an incredible person. You want to learn more about her, seek out Baby Peggy: The Elephant in the Room; it's a great documentary produced about her only a few years ago. And then maybe look up one of her silent films, if you don't mind a silent -- she's adorable in 'em.

R.I.P. David Roback of Mazzy Star Just saw this on facebook - pretty sad news. 'Into Dust', apart from being a great song, was one of the nuts I felt I had to crack when I first picked up the guitar.

Clive Cussler, author of (and, recently, author in-name-only of) innumerable "adventure" novels, has died.

Well, he would have re-spawned at a previous save point, maybe nobody knows where that is.

RIP James Lipton of Inside the Actors Studio fame. I could have sworn you died like five years ago, but apparently not. You died sometime in the past few hours.

Do people in the U.S. still use The Seventh Seal as shorthand for "impenetrable foreign film"? Even as a dumbass teenager watching it on VHS, I could tell how wrong that assessment is. It's gorgeous and Monty Python-level funny at times. And then there's another teenage favorite, Strange Brew, perhaps the most lovably inconsequential movie ever. Bye, Max.

I absolutely loved The Seventh Seal when I saw it years ago with my dad, who also loved it - and he's notorious for disliking subtitled movies because he's a slow reader and can never catch all the words.

He seemed like one of those mainstays of cinema who would never die -- and I honestly thought he was older than 90.

Max Von Sydow was great in so many movies, and had such a great range, from coldly creepy in movies like Needful Things and especially Three Days of the Condor, to wonderful scene chewing in movies like Flash Gordon and the aforementioned Strange Brew. Gonna miss that guy.

That Variety article implying that Conan and Judge Dredd were shitty movie roles offends me. The dude ruled for being one of those actors that was equally good in serious films for cinephiles and shlocky ALL ACTION movies for idiots like me who want to see musclefucks swordfight wizards and sci-fi cops LAZERBLAST scumfuck criminals.

I believe I'm still Facebook friends with the fellow who helped bring Judge Dredd to the screen and also helped for marketing and production on Star Wars and Alien, Mr. Charles Lippincott. He's a lovely guy.
