I guess I was bound to eventually fail, but somehow “Old Town Road” was number #1 for 17 weeks before I heard it. When it was trending I bought the EP just to spite homophobes. Still haven't listened to it. (I haaaatttee country)

I don't think I've heard it, or, if I have, I didn't know what it was when I heard it. Yeah, I don't listen to (current) top 40 radio stations, and I very rarely go any place where I'd consciously hear that type of music, so there are all sorts of pop music/#1 hits!!! I've never heard. I couldn't ID Rhianna's or Beyonce's voice on a bet.

I actually ran across some tweets of the guy who sings it and didn't realize who he was. My reaction was "Oh look another guy who just posts memes and shitposts all day." When I finally realized who he is, this made me want to hear the song even less.

OTOH, I still hear One Sweet Day semi regularly. I'm so old I initially read that as "One Fine Day" and thought "Well that's a little dated, but who doesn't like The Chiffons?!" I don't think I've heard "One Sweet Day" either.

I occasionally hear that Taylor Swift is this great musician, and while that may be, all I know or care to know is:
1. she broke out with that insipid country-pop song that projected a very different image from her wealthy background, and Kanye was right 2. "Shake It Off" is annoying 3. she tried to copyright the phrase "this sick beat"

I'm afraid I actually would have liked had I not known who'd written it (granted I also had no original version with which to compare it, so a lot of that could have in the arrangement). Also I know that Jason "George Costanza" Alexander claims he's singlehandedly responsible for her success, a fact I find so amusing I don't even want to challenge it.

“Shake It Off”’s bad, but “Style” is good. I don’t know her catalogue specifically well, but for every insipid one I can think of, I can think of another that’s solid.

Its the second worst 2019 album I've heard this year.
Its basically God is Not Dead the Album.

The Fall of Hobo Johnson.
That's actually also the title of the 2019 General Election.

Little House on the Prairie Little Women The Little PrinceStuart LittleI like my children's books and movies big, I guess. I loved Charlotte's Web and The Trumpet of the Swan so much when I was a kid that I was ravenously eager to read Stuart Little. And despite being a child given to fanciful flights of imagination, and having a fondness for books full of irreverence, silliness, and surrealism, I just COULD NOT with that book. I was just so confounded by the premise that the human mother had given birth to a mouse child? I mean, was that the correct reading of it? I got a couple of chapters in before giving up and going back to Charlotte's Web for the thousandth time. I also hated Little Women, but probably because non-Hugs loved it, and that was just my younger-sibling contrarianism at play. (Same for all the Anne of Green Gables stories.)

I don't understand the appeal of "The Masked Singer" at all. Minor celebrities dress up as furries and compete at karaoke?

I don't find him funny and I can't explain his success other than that the media likes his story of a medical professional turning to acting as being somehow inspiring.

It bums me out that all the "masks" in the American version are fancy looking professionally made fur suits. The Korean version masks were WAY lower rent which made the entire thing 90,032,273.666% creepier. Like you are definitely getting serial killed and/or ritualistically murdered by at least half of these people.

No one can make me take any interest in Tiger King. What if I told you that the antidote is hidden at the end of one particular episode? The antidote to what? The poison you just drank in that latte.

Anything Shonda Rhimes. The more people (women - just women) tell me about how great her shows are, the less appealing they sound.

I'm not sure if we need a separate "Media I'm about to spend the rest of my life avoiding" thread, but "Sexy Beasts" is definitely on it.
