The best finish to an Indy 500 race in at least a few years. After being cut by Penske last year, former Dancing with the Stars winner Helio Castroneves held on to win his fourth Indy 500. Other than the strangeness of a few cars having brake issues in pit row, and Graham Rahal losing a tire, there was minimal amounts of issues, which makes the race more enjoyable to watch (at least for me). I also hope that Alexander Rossi appreciated the irony when he ran out of gas.

Got my mom into F1 by recommending she watch the French Grand Prix as a sort of aristocratic sports tide-over between Roland-Garros and Wimbledon. Now I have to catch up on the Styrian Grand Prix (PST is brutal for these) bc she’s been waiting to talk about it. Good time to get into F1, given that there's actually a real competition for the championship this season.

So, anyone watch the final Grand Prix? Holy shit. Regardless of what to think of the bizarre decisions on the part of the stewards/Masi re: Hamilton not having to give a place back on Lap 1, or what appears to very possibly be a nakedly calculated decision to enforce the rules in just such a way as to produce a one lap duel between Verstappen and Hamilton for the championship, there's a part of me that really hopes Verstappen keeps the title. Part of this is because even though Verstappen is frankly a less sympathetic figure than Hamilton in most respects, even when you factor in Hamilton's frequently boring dominance of the sport during his time at Mercedes, the only fault in this controversy lies with the stewards and Masi, not Red Bull or Verstappen. But mainly I want Verstappen to keep the victory because then a necessary condition for his championship will have been Sergio Perez' unreal defense on totally spent tires against Hamilton with new tires, wherein Perez held up Hamilton long enough for Verstappen to take five seconds out of the gap between himself and Hamilton, thus preventing Mercedes from ever being able to risk bringing in Hamilton for fresh tires.
Fucking incredible. Hope the guy gets some more wins next year.
