As a student, emacs was my choice (a common refrain was "You can't spell evil without vi"), but once I became a system administrator, vi all the way (I would never run emacs with root privs).

My vote for vi was actually a vote for vim. Vim takes up way too much system resources as compared to to vi and can slow your computer down to the point where it's unusable.

I was saddened when I found out my daughter's CS program was teaching her emacs. It's possible I'm wrong, some might even say probable, but I'm about 83% sure Emacs is something they talk about clearing up in Scientology.

People think Brokeback Mountain originated "I wish I knew how to quit you", but it was actually vi.

Emacs is a nice OS, but to compete with Linux or Windows it needs a better text editor.

I was saddened when I found out my daughter's CS program was teaching her emacs. I started with emacs on but I was shamed into vi/vim when I was working on a climate modeling project. vi: semi-officially endorsed by the Laboratoire Interuniversitaire des Systèmes Atmosphériques. LISA needs to highlight matching braces
