It is with great sadness that Channel 4 has cancelled Utopia. Channel 4 says it is to make room for more drama in the next two years. As a surprises to very few, Utopia was my choice for Best TV Drama of 2013 and 2014, and some of the best TV I've seen, period. It's fantastic imagination, coupled with great acting, great performances, taut, clever writing, and a truly unique visual style, will be sorely missed. However, for an esoteric sci-fi conspiracy thriller, the fact we got two series was great in and of itself. I can't wait to rewatch the whole series soon. Expect Series 1 recaps in the coming weeks. www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/utopia-series-3-cancelled-channel-4-pulls-the-plug-to-make-way-for-new-dramas-9785228.htmlwww.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/utopia-axed-channel-4-its-4409477

"Channel 4 says it is to make room for more drama"

Argh, I had no idea! What a bizarre way to end it. I don't know how British TV works, were the ratings not good?

From what I understand it had ridiculously low ratings, and almost didn't even get a second season.

I guess now I'm praying for the HBO remake to be successful so we get at least one person's idea of a third season.

olivestrosity: Yeah, it was cancelled a few weeks ago. It's a huge bummer. Like rimjobflashmob said, the ratings were low, and while the show was only six episodes a series, I'm guess that cost was too much to justify the low ratings. However, the series got an International Emmy nomination for Best Drama Series (pretty damn impressive considering there are only three other nominees), so that's fantastic. It was never a drama without it's critical acclaim. Lemminkainen: The more I think of it, the more I actually love the ending to the second series. The ambiguity of the cliffhanger gives it this nice ambiguous, oddly apocalyptic feel. One commenter on AVC said it felt like the cycle had ended, the hydra grew a new head, and it's heavily implied it all begins again. Maybe it's just me, but I think it works really well. It was the ending where I initially had a lot of reservations, but knowing it's over (at this time) makes it work in its own odd way. Plus, if the HBO version is a success (I'll give the first couple of episodes a go), maybe Channel 4 will revive it. I mean, if Twin Peaks can return after all these years...
