Official promo art for Captain America: Civil War is out! Can't quite squint hard enough on the top picture, but I assume that's Van Camp's Sharon Carter to the left of Cap?
I'm still pretty pessimistic about this movie. Winter Soldier was great, but Age of Ultron really left me cold. This really looks another "set up the pieces for the next installment" movie in that vein.
Yep, that's Sharon. I think Hawkeye's costume is absolutely hilarious. I hope he gets killed off in this one. I was pretty pessimistic about this movie for a long time, too - I didn't like the storyline in the comics, and I'm annoyed that RDJ just HAD to be in this, because he hasn't already played Iron Man a zillion times and chewed up that scenery already - but the more I read about it and the more I see, the more optimistic I'm getting. Even the set photos look like the actors are enjoying themselves a lot more, whereas Age of Ultron's set photos made everyone look like they were miserable and didn't want to be there.

Totally agree on RDJ. I still love the first Iron Man and Avengers, and he's good in the part but...he's approaching Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow territory now, isn't he?
Really, the decision to try and jam the introduction of Black Panther and Spider-man into this movie is the thing that has me the most down on it. That's a very Iron Man 2/Age of Ultron-esque move.

Would the MCU be better off if Tony died at the end of Avengers? I'm going to say...... yes.

Tony & Steve: Leader War Machine & Falcon: Black best friend Widow and Carter: Token female redhead that won't have any toys made for them Hawkeye & Black Panther: Why? Vision & Winter Soldier: Mysterious characters who are really cool and likely going to be the best part of the film and the reason why I pay money to see this.
Ant-Man: Will hardly notice you, just like I did with the picture!

I'd love to see Sam or Bucky as Captain America in the subsequent movies. There are two things I want from Civil War: Steve dying, and this. BUCKY BARNES DICK PUNCHING TONY "FASCIST DOUCHEBAG" STARK.

I think the end of Ultron showed that they're planning to see how far they can press their luck with replacing more popular characters/expensive actors with promoted C-listers/cheaper actors. The surprise level of a death or two in Civil War would be approaching zero.
Plus they're doing magic shit with Dr. Strange now and who knows what kind of hand-wavey, comic book sci-fi stuff will get introduced in Infinity War. They could easily resurrect someone a few movies down the road.

Well, to be fair, Steve does die in the comics as a direct result of the Civil War, so that would definitely not surprise me if they followed through on that. I'm still crossing my fingers for Hawkeye or someone else. It probably won't be Tony, though.

Rumor is Misty Knight's in the Luke Cage series. If this is true, I'll take back all those mean things I said about Ant-Man, I swear, Marvel, I will!

Hahahahaha, "reports" that civil war really isn't based on the comic book, but it still is about Tony and Cap fighting one another over superhero accountability. That is still the central fucking idea! And it still kinda sucks.
This whole thing reminds me how event comics just kinda suck in general. Sure, secret wars and crisis on infinite earths was cool, but other than that? Meh.

Say what you will, the current Secret Wars titles are fairly fun! 1872 is a good Western, and Planet Hulk is the gayest thing I've read in a long time. Mostly though I'm ready for it to all be over. I saw from the previews that Thor's gonna be a dude again - to nobody's surprise, because really, who expected that change to be permanent? They'll change Steve Rogers back into Captain America soon enough too. The original Civil War event sucked. It was ill-conceived and poorly executed and Mark Millar licks goats. I wanted a Captain America movie, not fucking Avengers 2.5.

They are so concerned with shaking up the "status quo" and being "shocking", that it goes into the complete opposite direction and becomes fairly rote. As well as the fact that the status quo will always revert and writers and their comics will have wasted months trying to make something work that was editorially mandated. Or in nu52's case, YEARS.

Oh, and I do agree about wanting a Captain America movie. The Cap movies are the only ones I fully love in the MCU. The rest of the MCU for me is fairly average blockbuster fare that is a way to spend 2 hours that doesn't feel like a waste, kinda. And now the rest of the MCU is invading the section I absolutely love and turning it into something else? UGGGGGGGGH. Why couldn't they have done this for Thor? His movies suck.

And it sucks because they're never going to keep anything that they've made such a big deal about changing. I know if I were a comic book writer, I'd be annoyed as hell that anything I've done is about to get negated because editorial/higher-up wanted to shake things up for a few months. I'm crossing my fingers we'll get the Black Widow solo back after the event is done with, because Edmonson and Noto's run was so fantastic. The Cap movies are my favorite, which I never expected in a million years when I first started watching them. So it annoys me that I'm not getting a real Captain America movie. I'm sure it'll be great because the Russos did such an excellent job with Cap 2, but I'm miffed regardless.

I'm holding out hope that the Cap vs. Iron Man stuff is just being pushed to the front for marketing reasons and the bulk of the movie, outside of the inevitable big smash 'em up at the end, turns out to just be Cap trying to figure out what the hell he's going to do with his best friend/war hero/wants-to-be-a-reformed-hero that the rest of the world is going to view as a wanted criminal. If it's mostly that and not 2 hours of Steve and Tony debating superhero ethics, I think it could still be a worthy follow-up to Winter Soldier. I actually think the teaser at the end of Ant-man was possibly a promising sign on that front.

He was brainwashed and mind controlled and while SHIELD was exposed, his really shouldn't be out in the open, at least not the stuff after bucky's "death". The winter soldier really only has one full on public attack that we know of in the MCU, the freeway/bus scene. I doubt HYDRA would have been like, and all these assassinations are CLEARLY BUCKY BARNES, Y'ALL! The only problem would be Tony and the others not liking him, which it would be super hypocritical of them to be willing to go to bat for Banner but not Bucky. Someone cap has known for most of his life, when they just only met banner a few years ago AFTER he had become the other half of an angry brute.

As one of the few who apparently didn't love Iron Man 3, I'm going to say it at least wouldn't have made it worse. Holy shit, I'm not alone. As the admin of this forum it is our editorially mandated view that Iron Man 3 was lousy. As far as Marvel comics go I don't know Misty Knight from Moon Knight (are they both knights? Is one of them a knight? How many comic book characters called Knight are, in fact, members of a chivalric order?) but I do feel like Civil War has kind of All The Characters, which could make it a complete mess. On the other hand, if the movie is tightly edited, having so many characters would - hopefully - keep the plot moving, and maybe avoid the third act bloat of the last Russo brother Marvel movie. But then again this could be even bloatier than Winter Soldier. Who knows. Or it could be the best one since Guardians of the Galaxy. Not better than, though, because it doesn't have any of those guys, who I entirely blame for me having an opinion here to begin with.

Yuri Petrovitch They already made it a big issue for both Avengers movies. I feel like on some level they have to have their heroes fight because they simply have way more recurring heroes in the Marvel cinematic universe than they do villains - both Avengers movies have also required the villains to brainwash/imprison/recruit former/future heroes just so the poor schlub had someone to talk to.

It's not a movie, but the Jessica Jones trailer is out!
I loved Daredevil, but I think this might wind up blowing it out of the water. Krysten Ritter couldn't be more perfect. I'm already mega creeped out by the Purple Man, which I'm sure is the intent.

I was wrong, this is going to be great. Using Netflix as a sort-of more-adult imprint of the MCU was a pretty inspired idea.

What I like is that Ritter uses a slightly different tone in this role - it has more inflection than I'm used to hearing from her, but there's also a flat affect to it consistent with Jessica's severe PTSD. It's a really good acting choice. Also, Patsy Walker! God, I love her.

New Infinity War Trailer!

New Infinity War Trailer! SHURI!!!!!! Shuri is in the movie!!! Yeah, it's probably for less than 5 minutes of screen time, but WOOOOO! That said, I'm debating on whether I want to see this movie. I hadn't had any interest in these Marvel movies before. My friends dragged me to Thor: Ragnarok last year, which I enjoyed. But I wasn't tempted to go watch any of the other Thor movies. (They insisted to me that what I liked about Ragnarok wasn't present in the other Thor movies, so I didn't bother.) I saw Black Panther because of the rave reviews. Thought that one was pretty good. The only other one I've gone back to watch is Dr Strange, which I thought was just okay. I have zero interest in Iron Man or Captain America. I'm mildly interested in seeing what happens to Thor and Loki in this movie. And I loved the Black Panther cast, and would love to see those characters do more things. But I'm not sure that's enough to get me into this movie. Especially when the villain seems bland.
