The first Hannibal season 3 trailer is out. insidetv.ew.com/2015/01/22/hannibal-season-3-trailer/(If you really, truly don't want to know or speculate about anything that may happen in S3, don't watch it and stop right there. I'm going to discuss it.) They only show Will alive, but I'm about 99% sure Jack will survive. Laurence Fishburne may have confirmed that, even, I'm not sure. Anyway, that leaves Alana and Abigail's fates up in the air. I really hope Alana survives. I'll be kind of pissed off if neither of them do. Also it's been confirmed that Chilton is alive and will be a regular character. Yay! (SPOILERS NO FOR REAL THIS TIME BUT FROM THE BOOKS) Toward the end of the season I've read that they've cast Will's wife, Molly, and will be doing a time jump to accommodate her, so that should be interesting.

I'm hoping this starts up right as Mad Men comes to an end. Either way, between the two of them it's going to be an excellent, excellent spring and summer of tv. So much for the old "summer tv is bad" paradigm.
So who are we guessing is the corpse being shrouded on the autopsy table in the trailer?

I hate how this show brings back characters who appeared to have died in a prior episode.

On the other hand, he was the MVP of the last season … right up until he got a bullet in the face. But the show already pulled this shit with Eddie Izzard and Freddy.

Yeah, Fuller liked to fake out with him and others. But he did say early on that plenty of people have survived a shot through the cheek. Or something. They aren't the only ones, either... Abigail was presumed dead, Miriam was presumed dead...

Chilton surviving is a "twist" most people called from day one, I think. What's more aggravating is that instead of just owning up to it they tried to go for the fake-out wholeheartedly, which is an old, overused trope IMO.
That said, this looks awesome, and despite my misgivings about the latter half of season 2, I will be waiting for this show with bated breath.

I think she's hotter now than she was 20 years ago. It's insane how good she looks. Hell, she made Miss Havisham look hot in that BBC adaptation of Great Expectations a couple years back! She is one of the very few who can do that.

Why isn't this show on RIGHT NOW?! Damned NBC waiting till summer. *shakes fist* I wonder if that's because the show is usually a summer broadcast abroad. But then again they may just move it to Autumn this year.

I wonder if the show will potential thrive in a summer slot? I mean, NBC is going to be airing it on Thursday (and I just found out one episode will air on my birthday!).

Yeah, as much as I didn't want to wait that long, I think there's a chance it will do better ratings-wise with less competition.

At least NBC seems to be giving it a chance instead of banishing it to the Friday ghetto. If it can start pulling in decent numbers, that would be fantastic. IIRC, doesn't the show get a lot of international funding and its contracted to be around for at least four seasons? I think I read that somewhere on TOC?

It definitely has international funding due to its production company/deal and is therefore cheap for NBC to air. I hadn't heard about the contract, but I like it.

Hannibal is owned by Gaumont Television, a French company, and thus isn't a NBC property in the way say Parks and Recreation was.

UPDATE: On Wednesday, Guillermo del Toro's assistant Ian Gibson tweeted that the "Crimson Peak" director will not in fact be directing an episode of "Hannibal." The De Laurentiis Company Facebook page followed up with a post explaining that the inclusion of his name in the newsletter was "the result of a miscommunication in the process of editing" the email blast. "Whereas we would love to have Guillermo Del Toro direct an episode, his schedule simply did not allow for that this season," the post continued. "Again, our most sincere apologies." Additionally, the Di Laurentiis Company Twitter clarified that Guillermo Navarra will direct Episodes 11 and 12, while Michael Rymer will direct the season finale.

Michael Rymer is a fantastic director though - if it's the same one I'm thinking of, who was new!Battlestar Galactica's go-to director. He was behind the camera for the miniseries, most season/midseason finales and premieres, and a handful of other choice episodes scattered throughout that always looked stunning.

Rymer has already directed more episodes of Hannibal than anyone else though (7 episodes) so his participation isn't so much exciting as expected. Hannibal has hands down the best roster of directors on tv though, you really can't go wrong with any of them. I hope that it's still true that Guillermo Navarro is directing at least one episode this year though... he did some great work in the first season (Coquilles is one of my favorite episodes) and I was disappointed he didn't return for the second season.

I'm not a fan of this promo despite it's focus on Bedelia. The song choice just feels so damn on the nose and #BrideOfHannibal is just an idiotic hash tag. There are some really cool shots here though when you tune out the cutesy marketing... it seems like the Florence location shooting will allow the show to look more gorgeous than ever.
