It's interesting seeing Bedelia's true self gradually revealed, and how she contrasts with the other characters.
Will and Francis are deeply emotional people who are perpetually victimized by their own minds- Francis being a far more extreme example. Freddy and Chilton are strictly opportunists who refuse to let their emotions get the better of them. Alana takes the "only sane man" role, doing what she feels has to be done without losing her basic decency in the process. Bedelia, though, is like Alana without the humanity underneath, Freddy without the need for personal recognition, or Hannibal without the sadistic urge. She's just hollow.

Is Rutina Weasley auditioning for Cat Woman, cause that's all I think about whenever she speaks.

Man, Richard Armitage is just killing it (no awful pun intended).
It's also fun for me to see Mads' Hannibal Behind Bars, to contrast that with the Movie Hannibal most of us know.
And I also love what they've been doing with light and reflection (and darkness) this half of the season.

Hannibal behind bars (or plexiglass or whatever) has been one of the smaller pleasures of the Red Dragon arc. The way Mads makes use of the limited space to stalk and loom is wonderful. Though, on the subject, I don't think Mads quite pulled off the "I'll dance at your wedding" line; it's hard not to remember Cox's version of the same, and for Mads' to suffer in comparison.

Another week, another advance notice on this week's Hannibal: if you were worried about Molly not having anything to do on this season, this episode might put your fears to rest.

This episode was CRAZY. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, and holy shit, Armitage is terrifying. I wasn't 100% sold on him before but god damn.

Maybe I shouldn't have watched that tonight, what with really needing a good night's sleep? I, as the kids are wont to say, can't even.

That horrifying scream at the end of the chase scene, and then the dragon beating the living shit out of him... I didn't fall asleep quickly afterward either!

For some reason, the shot that's really sticking with me from this episode as strikingly beautiful was the cutaway to Jack and Alana listening in on Hannibal and Dolarhyde's conversation. That tableau was weirdly impressive to me. But the photography in the cabin scene, with Dolarhyde almost invisible except for the light on his face, was just breathtaking.

That weird twitchy smile while he was talking about Reba got to me. It was both creepy (given who he is) and really, really sad. He was just so blown away that a woman would want anything to do with him.

Bryan Fuller's said that he was always impressed with how Dolarhyde ended up being such a tragic and even romantic figure in the novel, given the horrible things he does over the course of the story. Glad to see some of that shining through here, with the difference between Francis and the Dragon becoming more stark.

Me, throughout most of the episode: Ohfuckohfuckohfuckohfuckohfuckohfuck...Chilton really can't catch a break, huh? Next time Will complains about 'being covered in scars', I hope Frederick is there to give him a Lemon-level eye roll. Assuming, y'know, he's still capable of being there.

Dear Lord.
Hannibal's really started moving towards the Silence of the Lambs version of himself in the second half of this season. Now that his person suit has been seen for what it is, he's shed the cool exterior he cultivated and is merrily embracing his true, hammy, self. Season 1 Hannibal would never have slurped a body part the way he did in this episode. It's as if running to Europe was a final effort to become the refined aesthete he desired to be (and that he was raised to be, as we might have learned in Season 4), but when that failed he regressed all the way into the other, more vulgar, part of his persona.

Oh indeed: and that's a great reading on Hannibal's persona. Not enough people consider the precise dandy is basically him cosplaying his ideal self, and underneath he's just a uncouth, rude toddler. (I'm loving how the show has taken the idea of person-suit & put it out there: it's a riff on Grant Morrison's fiction-suit idea, which has been knocking around modern occultism since the mid-90s. Whether this is by accident, design or synchronicity is, of course, another matter!)

I actually looked up whether or not severe burn victims could ever fully heal without massive disfiguration to make myself feel better about what happened to poor Chilton, and hey, it's been done!
He'll be good as new and sassy as ever in no time, right Mr. Fuller?
Right?
Please?

Jesus, poor Chilton. I couldn't even watch, I was hiding my face on Iffy's shoulder. I think I may have whimpered.
