The winner of the July Anniversary Record Club is The Beach Boys’ ninth album Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), released July 5, 1965. The album is arguably the band’s last record of (mostly) original compositions with an overtly commercial pop bent before the opus Pet Sounds. Tell us what you think about about this record after 50 years. Instead of the section where I’d point out a few highlights in the band’s subsequent history (anyone with even a cursory knowledge of rock music likely knows them), I’m posting links to the bootleg tape of Murry Wilson—band manager and father of Brian, Dennis, and Carl—in the studio. Appropriate here as it documents an early attempt at recording “Help Me, Rhonda,” it’s an interesting look into the dysfunction behind The Beach Boys’ art and is worth a listen if you haven’t done so already. Interesting to hear those bootlegs you linked to of Murray coaching the band: "Loosen up! Be happy! Be happy!" I didn't know enough about their background to know of his involvement with the band.
Definitely some filler here (above all "Amusement Parks, USA", with voice-acting I find less than welcome), but also several iconic, indelible tracks: "Then I Kissed Her", "Help Me Rhonda", "Girl Don't Tell Me", and "California Girls". Not as admirable as Pet Sounds, sure, but still a very good album overall.

Then I Kissed Her is somewhere near my favourite of theirs, to the extent where I actually have a favourite word in the track - 'by', in the line 'and always be right by her side'. There's a little twang or something in the pronunciation that just gets me every time. Al Jardine, I believe.
Overall, I would say it's their best album that isn't the obvious one. To've created this musical world ... hats off to Brian.

At least To Bring You My Love is no longer the least-discussed winning album.

At least To Bring You My Love is no longer the least-discussed winning album. As with PJ in February, I'm afraid that 20+ nominations has prevented a consensus favorite.
