Make a mix of 10-15 songs. All songs must fit a theme of your choice. Then someone guesses your theme, and makes one of their own. The theme can be tied to the artist, song, or genre. It can be a literal or symbolic interpretation.
Here's an easy one to start:
Lord Huron- "Ends of The Earth" Neko Case- "This Tornado Loves You" Elvis Costello- "Only Flame In Town" The Melodians- "Rivers Of Babylon" Tegan and Sara- "Soil, Soil" Bob Dylan- "Blowin' in the Wind" Pixies- "Dig For Fire" Menomena- "Bote" White Stripes- "Dead Leaves on the Dirty Ground" Waxahatchee- "Air" Paul Westerberg- "Eyes Like Sparks" Blondie- "Tide is High"

Your theme seems to alternate elements- Earth / Wind / Fire / Water. New playlist (It's short for now, I'll add a few as I think of them): Beastie Boys - "Shadrach" Bruce Springsteen - "Lion's Den" The Hold Steady - "Cattle and the Creeping Things" U2 - "Drowning Man" Neko Case - "John Saw That Number"

Hint: record club (I plug them all the time, huh?) Curtis Mayfield, "Superfly" Jean Knight, "Mr. Big Stuff" Sly and the Family Stone, "Dance to the Music" James Brown, "Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved" Loggins & Messina, "Your Momma Don't Dance" Mountain, "Mississippi Queen" Jimi Hendrix, "Foxy Lady" Prince, "Kiss"

Would I be correct in adding: The Beatles - "The End" David Bromberg - "Sharon" Donovan - "Hurdy Gurdy Man" and of course Cheap Trick - "Surrender (Live at Budokan)"Let's try this one: The Sweet - "Ballroom Blitz" Jimi Hendrix Experience - "Little Miss Lover" Tommy James and the Shondels - "Mony Mony" Led Zeppelin - "Rock N' Roll" Stevie Wonder - "Superstition" Paul Simon - "Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover" Billy Joel - "Traveling Prayer" The Clash - "Train in Vain" U2 - "Sunday Bloody Sunday" The White Stripes - "My Doorbell"

You lost me. I'm confused and intrigued. I've created a delightfully nerdy monster.

Can we get a hint? It's not in the titles or lyrics. The opening track on on Sgt. Pepper does not fit the theme, but the reprise does.

There are just so many murder songs! I was trying not make it too obvious. The first track of my next mix also works with that theme: Violent Femmes- "Country Death Song" The Cars- "You Might Think" The Replacements- "Favorite Thing" Prince- "Purple Rain" Black Flag- "I Love You" Nick Lowe- "Maureen" Husker Du- "Indecision Time" Midnight Oil- "When The Generals Talk" XTC- "All You Pretty Girls" Billy Bragg- "The Saturday Boy"

New list: The Clash - "Version City" Arlo Guthrie - "City of New Orleans" Bruce Springsteen - "Land of Hope and Dreams" Johnny Cash - "Folsom Prison Blues" Grateful Dead - "Casey Jones" Bob Dylan - "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You" Warren Zevon - "Night Time at the Switching Yard" The Jam - "Down in the Tube Station at Midnight"

(Sneaky to include Thin Lizzy ...) It's late here in the UK, so I'll let someone else step in with a new list.

Common thread in your songs: New playlist: Joe Walsh - "In the City" Harry Belafonte - "Jump in the Line" Willy DeVille - "Storybook Love" The Faces - "Ooh La La" KISS - "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" Rolling Stones - "Paint It Black" David Bowie - "Queen Bitch" Simon and Garfunkel - "The Sounds of Silence"
