1. What was the last song you listened to?
One by Fuzz/Ty Segall
2. Do you have an official summer song yet?
No.
3. Favorite song with your first name in the lyrics?
It's not exactly my first name, but it sounds like it when Cobain sings it in All Apologies.
4. Favorite song from a soundtrack?
John's Theme from the Don't Look Now soundtrack. Such a lovely piece of music that I'm able to disassociate it from the famous sex scene it accompanies.
5. Favorite love song?
She's The One, Bruce Springsteen. Then I Kissed Her, The Beach Boys as a follow up.
6. Song that always makes you cry?
Hmmm ... don't seem to have one. Not that I'm a tough guy or anything. That's The Way by Led Zeppelin comes closest, especially the ending.
7. Favorite band when you were in high school? Favorite song from that band?
Big Country. The single version of Fields Of Fire would be my favourite. The guitar at the start is mixed a little louder than the album version.
8. Least favorite song of your current favorite band?
Bruce Springsteen is my current favourite, and looks likely to remain so until I'm folded into the earth. Least favourite track could be ... Real Man or Soul Driver from Human Touch.
9. Favorite lyrics (answer can be song, album, or artist)?
Too many to choose ... The River, Jumpin' Jack Flash, You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go, Tommy Gun ...
10. What was the last full album you listened to, beginning to end?
I always listen to albums all the way through. I don't skip songs, even if I don't like them that much. The album is King! So it was Fuzz by Fuzz/Ty Segall.

Feel free to put more than one answer for questions if you want, I probably will. 1. What was the last song you listened to? 2. Do you have an official summer song yet? 3. Favorite song with your first name in the lyrics? 4. Favorite song from a soundtrack? 5. Favorite love song? 6. Song that always makes you cry? 7. Favorite band when you were in high school? Favorite song from that band? 8. Least favorite song of your current favorite band? 9. Favorite lyrics (answer can be song, album, or artist)? 10. What was the last full album you listened to, beginning to end? 1. "Sixtyten" by Boards of Canada 2. "Senorita" by Vince Staples 3. "Do Re and Me" by Andrew Jackson Jihad. "Man is the Bastard is a brutal fucking band, and they hate Thomas Lenz..." 4. "Nightcall" by Kavinsky (from Drive), "Seal my Fate" by Belly (from Rick & Morty), "Failsafe" by the New Pornographers (from Moral Orel) 5. Multiple: - "Going to Georgia" by the Mountain Goats - "Falling For You" by Weezer - "Archangel" by Burial - "Paint a Vulgar Picture" by the Smiths, which for the past few years has occupied the top slot in my list of favorite songs ever. 6. Multiple: - "Garden of Lavender" by Sun Kil Moon captures a sort of sadness that's impossible to really pin down. The closest I can express is that when my mom died, that's what I felt. Just this desolate feeling that something good and beautiful was there, and is now gone, and will never come back. - "Two Headed Boy pt 2" by Neutral Milk Hotel. It's my favorite Neutral Milk Hotel song but I can't listen to it often, because it's so emotionally draining. 7. Radiohead and "Idioteque." Still one of my all-time favorite bands and songs. 9. Multiple: - Andrew Jackson Jihad have some truly glorious lines. If I were to ever get a tattoo of song lyrics, it would be the final verse of "People II 2: Still Peoplin'." - As for specific songs, I'm gonna return to "Two Headed Boy pt 2"- each of the choruses there is a gut-punch. - The "if you're so funny..." verse of the Smiths' "I Know It's Over" is gorgeous and sad and hits so close to home. - On a lighter note, Queens of the Stone Age's "I'm Designer" is chock-full of wonderful lines. "Counter-proposal, I go home and jerk off!" 10. Vince Staples - Summertime '06

1. What was the last song you listened to? Death Cab for Cutie - "Binary Sea"

5. Favorite love song? R.E.M. - "At My Most Beautiful"

10. What was the last full album you listened to, beginning to end? Desaparecidos - Payola

What was the last full album you listened to, beginning to end? 1: 'Forever Don't Last' - Jazmine Sullivan 2: I don't know what a summer song is. It's not summer here. I don't know how one would register an 'official' summer song. I don't like this question. 3: Only song I can think of is 'She's So High' - Tal Bachman. 4: 'Mean Green Mother From Outer Space' - Little Shop of Horrors 5: 'I Put A Spell On You' - Nina Simone 6: 'God Help Me' - Emilie Autumn 7: High school... that's tough, you go through so many musical phases. One day you're a Belieber, the next day only angst-ridden emo rock can capture the intense depth of your feelings. Let's just go for the most mockable one, 'U Smile' - Justin Bieber. Yeah, come at me. 8: 'The Art of Suicide' - Emilie Autumn 9: I mean... shit... um... Neko Case? No, PJ Harvey. Courtney Barrett? Nick Cave? Nitty Scott, MC? Kelsea Ballerini? Charli XCX? There are too many lyrics good for too many different reasons! 10: 'London Calling' - The Clash

1. What was the last song you listened to? “Future Primitive” by Grails
2. Do you have an official summer song yet? “Go” by Public Service Broadcasting
3. Favorite song with your first name in the lyrics? None, but I do have a least favorite: “[Hugs And Hisses] Rigby”. That song makes me go into a white-hot rage every time someone mentions it.
4. Favorite song from a soundtrack? “Adagio from Concerto Gross” and “La Musica Notturna Delle Strade di Madrid” both from Master and Commander.
5. Favorite love song? “Strange Religion” by Mark Lanegan Band
6. Song that always makes you cry? This is a toughie. I took a college elective on opera and the professor played Dieter Fischer Dieskau singing “Winterreise”; the whole rest of the class was sobbing and I was like, “Oh, quit sucking up to the teacher!” But if I were the crying type, I’d say “100 Days” by Mark Lanegan.
7. Favorite band when you were in high school? Favorite song from that band? Afghan Whigs, “When We Two Parted” Faith No More, “Small Victory” R.E.M., my favorites changed weekly but the list included “Find The River”, “Electrolite”, and “Half A World Away”
8. Least favorite song of your current favorite band? “Driving Death Valley” by Mark Lanegan Band
9. Favorite lyrics (answer can be song, album, or artist)? “Curse of Millhaven” by Nick Cave
10. What was the last full album you listened to, beginning to end? Chelsea Wolfe, Pain Is Beauty

10. What was the last full album you listened to, beginning to end? The Only Lovers Left Alive soundtrack. I only recently saw this movie and fell deeply in love with the soundtrack. Also, I think it's the only movie I've ever seen where the big moment of watching a character listen to music actually conveys deep emotion. That scene where Adam watches Yasmine Hamdan's performance was completely and utterly spellbinding. "Hey, Eve, listen to this. It'll change your life. It's not The Shins."

8. Least favorite song of your current favorite band? “Driving Death Valley” by Mark Lanegan Band Aww man, I like that song. It’s impossible to not speed when it’s on in the car. Right now my least favourite Mark Lanegan song is probably “I Am The Wolf” from Phantom Radio just because it’s such a lifeless dirge to start off side two of an otherwise awesome album.

1. What was the last song you listened to? “Got Kinda High” by The Goats
2. Do you have an official summer song yet? Does it have to be from THIS summer? Then, no. But an official summer song from any summer? “54-46 Was My Number” by Toots and the Maytals
3. Favorite song with your first name in the lyrics? Since I’m a Mike, I can cheat and pick basically any song from the Beastie Boys canon and I’m going with “Jimmy James”
4. Favorite song from a soundtrack? I don’t know if I actually own any soundtracks but I’ll throw in the most recent soundtrack song I heard: Faith No More’s “The Perfect Crime” from Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey. Station.
5. Favorite love song? Hmmm… I’m not the sentimental type, so most of the “love songs” I like are of the cynical variety. Maybe “On The Mouth” by Superchunk?
6. Song that always makes you cry? “Virtute the Cat Explains Her Departure” by the Weakerthans. God damn it, Weakerthans.
7. Favorite band when you were in high school? Favorite song from that band? The Descendents, favourite song was probably “Bikeage” or “Coolidge”
8. Least favorite song of your current favorite band? I guess either “Don’t” or “Poledo” by Dinosaur Jr because they both end incredible albums on a kind of shitty note
9. Favorite lyrics (answer can be song, album, or artist)? Rhett Miller of the Old 97s is most likely my favourite lyricist. As an example, the first verse of “Doreen”:
“When I first met Doreen, she was barely seventeen, She was drinking whiskey sours in a bar The way she tossed ‘em back I would have had a heart attack, But as it is I let her drive my car. We galloped through the boroughs like a pair of horny thoroughbreds Until I said ’Stop the car, Doreen!’ You can roll your eyes and nod, But I swear that I saw God In the moonlight, on a side street, in the wreckage we call Queens”
10. What was the last full album you listened to, beginning to end? Screeching Weasel – “Boogadaboogadaboogada”

1. What was the last song you listened to? The Cult, "She Sells Sanctuary" 2. Do you have an official summer song yet? Beck's "Dreams," I guess. Not really much else has thrilled me. 3. Favorite song with your first name in the lyrics? None really, but I was named after a famous rock musician and there is a inter-song studio chatter piece that uses the first name I kind of like (only clues you get--I have a gimmick to maintain here) 4. Favorite song from a soundtrack? Paul Westerberg, "Dyslexic Heart,"/Ramones, "Rock N' Roll High School" 5. Favorite love song? I don't have a serious answer for this. 6. Song that always makes you cry? Doesn't quite make it, but the closest is Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, "Ashes of San Miguel" 7. Favorite band when you were in high school? Favorite song from that band? The Strokes (among contemporary acts anyway), "Hard to Explain" 8. Least favorite song of your current favorite band? Maybe not all-time favorite, but I find U2's "The Sweetest Thing" to be among the stupidest songs ever 9. Favorite lyrics (answer can be song, album, or artist)? Dylan? I guess. 10. What was the last full album you listened to, beginning to end? The first Violent Femmes album

I just realized I confused the song titles -- I meant "Sideways In Reverse" which I wouldn't love anyway, but the fact that it comes right after "Strange Religion" and completely ruins the mood is what truly pisses me off. ("Driving Death Valley" is still at the lower end of the list of Lanegan songs for me, but it doesn't make me respond as violently as "Sideways in Reverse".) As for "I Am The Wolf", I hear ya. I think he should have put it on No Bells On Sunday and moved "No Bells On Sunday" to Phantom Radio.

I think I was confusing it for “Sideways In Reverse” too, which is the song I can’t hear without speeding. I like that song, not least because it features John Kastner of Doughboys/Asexuals/All Systems Go! on guitar.

Feel free to put more than one answer for questions if you want, I probably will. 1. What was the last song you listened to? Hard to Find - The National 2. Do you have an official summer song yet? No, though I've been listening to "Codeine" by Jason Isbell a lot 3. Favorite song with your first name in the lyrics? [Redacted] by the Magnetic Fields 4. Favorite song from a soundtrack? I dunno. I like the Fiona Apple track they used for The Affair. Also love "Nevermind" by Leonard Cohen, but I'm not sure that counts as I knew the song before season 2 of TD started. 5. Favorite love song? "The Book of Love" by the Magnetic Fields 6. Song that always makes you cry? "Sunshine" by Ferron 7. Favorite band when you were in high school? Favorite song from that band? Bob Dylan, if that counts as a band. Favorite song from him is probably "Visions of Johanna", though "Desolation Row" and "Shelter From the Storm" [Hard Rain version] are up there too. 8. Least favorite song of your current favorite band? I can't really think of a favorite band. lately I've been listening to a lot of Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams, Iron & Wine and The National. 9. Favorite lyrics (answer can be song, album, or artist)? Leonard Cohen; Iron & Wine (esp. "The Trapeze Swinger") 10. What was the last full album you listened to, beginning to end? 1. What was the last song you listened to? Boss Hog - "Fire of Love"
2. Do you have an official summer song yet? The Eternal Summer Jam is and always will be "Rock Lobster" by The B-52s. The official summer song of 2015 is thus far "The Shade" by Metric.
3. Favorite song with your first name in the lyrics? I don't know of any songs that have my first name in the lyrics.
4. Favorite song from a soundtrack? The only soundtracks I own are: Spawn & Godzilla (the late 90s US one) because I liked Silverchair more than anyone should, and a 7" single of "Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker Jr. Of those, "Ghostbusters" is the only one I've listened to in the past 10 years.
5. Favorite love song? "Lovesong" by The Cure
6. Song that always makes you cry? No song "always" makes me cry, though "Pyramid Song," by Radiohead has been featured on every "Depression Mix" I've made since 2000 or whenever that album came out.
7. Favorite band when you were in high school? Favorite song from that band? Early high school would have been some kind of grunge or some Victory Records straight edge hardcore band (since such things were pretty popular in Upstate New York in the mid-90s). Since both are styles of music rather than bands, I'll say that Pearl Jam and Earth Crisis probably reigned supreme for me at this time with "Rearviewmirror" (Pearl Jam) and "Firestorm" (Earth Crisis) being my favorite jams.
By later high school I'd started listening to one of the local college stations and got Dig Me Out by Sleater-Kinney a month or two after it was released. At the time either "Dance Song '97" or the title track from that album were my favorites, though I wouldn't count either of them as my favorite Sleater-Kinney song today due to the ownage of subsequent albums.
8. Least favorite song of your current favorite band? Sleater-Kinney - "Hubcap"
9. Favorite lyrics (answer can be song, album, or artist)? Beck is a pretty grand lyricist and this is perhaps nowhere more obvious than on the song "Steve Threw Up."
10. What was the last full album you listened to, beginning to end?
Louis Armstrong and His Orchestra - The First Recordings...or maybe it was called The Early Recordings...I can't remember and don't have the record on my desk at work to check the actual title. I'll check when I go home.
CHECKED!: Armstrong - First Recorded Concerts 1932/1933

6. Song that always makes you cry? Sufjan Stevens - "Casimir Pulaski Day"
That song destroys me every single time. When I saw him live on the Age of Adz tour, he closed the main set with "Impossible Soul" into "Chicago" and started the encore with "UFO" so we were all feeling pretty incredible. Then he started playing "Casimir" and I erupted into tears, bawling to the point that a complete stranger asked me if I was OK afterwards. Even thinking about that song is making me tear up.

1. What was the last song you listened to? Big Business - "Grounds for Divorce"
2. Do you have an official summer song yet? I think it's gotta be Tally Hall's "Banana Man" for adorable-boyfriend related reasons
3. Favorite song with your first name in the lyrics? Every song with my name in it is awful. Think Grease. Ugh. I hate musicals.
4. Favorite song from a soundtrack? Chris Cornell's "Seasons" off the Singles soundtrack
5. Favorite love song? Right now it's Alt-J's "Every Other Freckle"
6. Song that always makes you cry? There are so many songs that make me cry that the question is overwhelming. I may come back to update this one.
7. Favorite band when you were in high school? Favorite song from that band? Yikes, I had hundreds of favorite bands in high school. I guess if I'm trying to encapsulate the era I should go with Smashing Pumpkins - "Soma"
8. Least favorite song of your current favorite band? 'Favorite band' is just so tough for me to pin down. I've been obsessed with Between The Buried And Me's -"Coma Ecliptic" album recently, so I'll go with them and say 'every song before they came out with this album'.
9. Favorite lyrics (answer can be song, album, or artist)? I think Josh Homme is the most clever lyricist in my time. See "Reptiles" from Them Crooked Vultures below, plus "I'm Designer" off Era Vulgaris for examples.
I tried to make a break
What a fool
I should've known, I never listen
I'm in a cage
An animal I'm in a cage
But the reptiles
They won't let me go
I think they want you to stray
Watch the monkey dance
Give 'em a taste
Look at him he's always smiling
Help me to escape
Your mouth agape
You foreign tourist
Woe is me, it will be a funeral
A circus, I'll rap on the cell door
Questions are a fire
That needs feeding to survive
So just you let those flames die down
Trained by consequence and the lash
It leaves me breathless
Their prais is a poison to us all
In the moonlight their scars flash like jewelry
Get too precious
Get locked up in a cage
Want to get, gotta risk any move
misconstrued and you're screwed
Tongues flash and flick as if they're screaming
Oh they lie just like any lover
Oh do they, those kisses will burn
Under the lights
They snap a finger
You jump, you answer
Like a naive hooker with a big dumb smile
For the reptiles
I guess you'll never know
They won't let you go
Cause you're the soup du'jour. that's for sure
Questions are a fire
That needs feeding to survive
So just you let those flames die down
See them reptiles crawl?
Getting closer
Why won't someone come to drive them away?
Don't rest too long
It's a mistake we can't take back
Take one lying down for a change
And oh it's like cleaning up after an orgy
When it's over
I wish someone would burn this place
To the ground
10. What was the last full album you listened to, beginning to end? Cloud Kicker - Beacons
