I just rented The Audition pretty much 100% because it’s been Scott Tobias’s avatar picture since forever and I’ve always been curious about it.

It's always nice when I'm reading an enjoyable article somewhere else and when I get to the end I discover it was written by one of the classic AVC writers. I had a similar "Oh hey it's X of the AVC!" reaction when I was watching one of those Woodstock '99 documentaries and Steven Hyden showed up as one of the talking heads.

Hyden shows up and just reads out HipsterDBag’s comments under his old article

The ad in every AVC article:
Get your no-fail, must-read guide to the latest and greatest in TV, music, and movies delivered right to your inbox, just like the stars do!
"just like the stars do"?!

Hyden shows up and just reads out HipsterDBag ’s comments under his old article Hyden put out an open invitation for people to tell him their stories about Woodstock '99 and I talked to him at length about it and he didn't use a single thing I said, guess it was too boring. Also didn't fit the narrative in that I didn't engage in any sexual assaults and left before the fires started.

I happen to know for a fact that Proxima Centauri is a massive fan of Amazon ads designed to look like actual content.

“just like the stars do” reminds me of Sterling Archer calling Hollywood “Tinseltown” when forging a letter from Burt Reynolds.

Lol, they're really just going to randomly re-post that "The Marvel Cinematic Universe, ranked from worst to best" slideshow every few weeks from now until the end of time, aren't they? The next movie doesn't even come out for another two months.

You know, once upon a time the AVC was a website that would probably have at least *mentioned* that Jean-Luc Godard had died.
EDIT: OK fine they finally got around to it, eventually.

I like Defector, not because of its content as that's mostly sporting things but they have solid writers from ye olden Deadspin days, good ethics and seem to be supporting themselves in a way I wish TOC had the sense to back before the mould really got into the walls and foundations. Give me a less sporty Defector and I'll pay, did I mention how much I like Defector's model?

Danny Pudi is one of the very few celebrities I’ve briefly met here, though I didn’t realize it was him until someone asked for a selfie (Pudi was masked and in sunglasses).

It seems that every month or so, The Old Country changes the behavior of its video ads just to annoy me.
I regularly visit the "latest" page. Last month, videos on that page automatically played, with sound, even if they were not visible on the screen. That stopped after a couple of weeks. Maybe they got complaints. I've gotten into the habit of being ready to pause any video I see.
Now, if I pause a video playing to the side of an article, it doesn't pause; it rewinds.

People don't know "M*A*S*H" was a movie? "What We Do in the Shadows"? Didn't that just come out, like, a few years ago?

Suicide is painless, and I'm considering it based on that list.

With articles popping up through FB, I see stuff from AVC a bit more than I used to. I'm glad someone else was logged in to bitch about this, because how the hell do they leave the WKRP Thanksgiving episode off of a list of 'best Thanksgiving eps'? I swear, visiting that site is like visiting an old friend with Alzheimers.

Someone in the comments there linked to older articles talking about that episode and I read the comment section of those older articles and now I'm depressed that circa 2013 AVC doesn't exist anymore.

Decent show, but I don't really understand why it deserves two slots. And Mindy Project? Really? Again, the show itself is...fine (I have no recollection of the Thanksgiving episode), but its cultural staying power is minimal. Ditto That 70s Show. Given their predilection for late 90s to early 2010s sitcoms, I'm guessing the contributor is almost precisely my age, but jesus, they made TV before 1997.

This may say more about me than the shows, but I've seen both Bob's Burgers episodes, Friends, HIMYM, and I'm assuming based on how much of the series I watched, The Simpsons and That 70s Show, and out of all of them, the only one I actually remember was Slapsgiving. I'd argue that it may be the only one that deserves to be on this list. Call it " Slapsgiving, plus 19 Thanksgiving Episodes That You Completely Forgot" and you'd have a better title for this.
