It’s not as widely used in the US but it’s a defacto utility in many countries and among diasporas. Facebook has made it and Messenger free over wireless networks in many places. It’s pretty bad that it’s down.

Squid Game, but not the premise of Squid Game (which I'm pretty sure is some sort of dystopian game show thing a la Netflix's prior international series 3%) so much as whether cephalopods are involved or if it's, like, a metaphor.

Salt Bae.
Some sort of influencer maybe? Apparently he, she or they have opened a restaurant in London for people who like to post on social media about how hilarious it is that they spent hundreds of pounds on terrible food.

Back in my day, being a tub girl meant something else entirely. And we didn't pay for it. And we damn well didn't like it!

I do actually know who Salt Bae is, because he became a widely used meme on Twitter for a while.
However, I am similarly ignorant about Squid Game. Haven't had much time for Netflix recently. Not sure if this actually has anything to do with squid, and if not, why is it called that?

The title refers to a childhood game in Korea where the playing field has the design of a squid etched into it. That's pretty much the first thing they explain in the series. That said, it's a SUPER dark, grim, violent show, very well done but also difficult to watch.

What is this sudden obsession with razors? Why am I hearing commercials, seeing ads and generally being bombarded with messages about razors?
I don't care about my razor. It's something I use to scrape hair off of my face. Every other week, I toss it out and start with a new one. I spend probably $12 a year on razors. Who cares?
I mean, really? Razors? Is this just what rampant consumerism looks like right before it's about to expire?

I've been ad-targeted with this crap for at least three years now. Razors! Who cares?

Wordle is a daily word game that's gone viral quickly. The guy who invented it is named Josh Wardle, so it's a play on his last name. You get 6 guesses to guess a 5-letter word, and each guess it tells you whether a letter is in the right spot, in the word but the wrong spot, or not in the word at all. It's quick, it's fun, and now some jerks are trying to rip it off and make money off a fun free little web-based game.
I have no idea what Blorbo is.

Slight exaggeration here, but: Zendaya.
What I mean is that until the first Dune trailer in September 2020 I'm sure I'd never heard of Zendaya. And now she's in Dune (which I've actually seen), a Spiderman movie I considered seeing (but didn't), the current zeitgeist-of-the-month TV show (no, not Succession. Not Yellowjackets either. The other one. No of course I haven't seen it) and the panel keep guessing she's one of the singers in The Masked Singer UK (shuddup, my kids love it. Also, no, it was Michelle Williams from Destiny's Child).
(And it'll happen to you! Considering the TIF age cohort, probably already has).

Magazine writers discover they’re closer, in many cases much closer, to forty than thirty. Is this like "cheugy" (which, as far as I can tell, is just a synonym for "popular with white women over 35 and therefore bad" ?)

Rainbow Rosa I think “cheugy” is more basic and normie, whereas the people talking about a vibe shift are the ones who’d use “cheugy” both to look down on their peers and to desperately cling to youth culture.
Another late thirties looking-early twenties mix up is with “Indie sleaze,” the revival of interest in early/mid-aughts music and aesthetics, but with the twist that there’s this idea that the Garden State era was uniquely hedonistic and decadent.

Because 9/11 and the Iraq War had that effect on everyone.
