If you think that's tough, I went back and forth on whether to include things like pho, ramen, tom kha, etc. In the end, I decided not to, because how can you even put chicken noodle or tomato soup on the same playing field as a really good bowl of ramen? That's just mean.

Brutal is right. My choice looked like this:
chicken noodle - actually chicken & rice is better broccoli cheddar - usually yummy, but there are lots of ways to mess up the consistency french onion - often looks better than it tastes new england clam chowder - obviously better than that red clam chowder, but nothing is worse than grit in your soup tortilla soup - would rather eat a tortilla tomato - too strong, I can only have a few sips split pea - looks gross, never tasted because of the pork gumbo - this isn't soup, it's gumbo - in a league of its own, like pho, ramen, miso, etc. cream of mushroom - good base for other dishes, rather disappointing on its own minestrone - delicious, but easy to get sick of cheddar cheese & beer - why is this a soup?
which leaves the subtle decadence of lobster bisque as my final selection.

Dwenjang Chigae is better than all this nonsense... But isn't that more of a stew, with potatoes and meat? Or am I opening up a can of worms here?

If stews are out, there's a less hearty version of it that would be more akin to soup (dwenjang guk) which, though inferior to the stewish version, is still superior than all things on this list.

Be that as it may, I was going for the common North American soups that you might find in a can at a typical grocery store. If I included every possible global option the list would be three times as long. But perhaps I'll put up a best international soups poll in the near future. In which case tom kha takes it.

A very good soup, but I prefer the version with the coconut milk, it just has an extra dimension that elevates it imo.

For those first three, I think it's ok to assume for this poll you'd be getting the best possible version of the soup in question. i.e. proper consitency, taste matching looks, and grit free. For the fourth, you can get versions that don't have ham or bacon in them. Not sure if that's considered sacrilege to the split pea lovers out there, but there have to be vegetarian versions available, perhaps worth a try if you don't mind the consistency of baby food. For the final, I can't disagree with your choice here. Who wants to eat mushy peas when you can have creamy rich lobster? As for gumbo, I probably shouldn't have included that alongside stuff like mushroom and chicken noodle. I blame Zydeco music I was listening to earlier today.

We celebrated my mom's birthday at Peter Luger's and after some arguing over who got the bones (me or her dog), I managed to get some bones and made a beef stock that I turned into some of the best onion soup I ever tasted. Thusly, I voted for onion soup. It was a very tough call, though... why could there not be multiple votes?

Also, I am not able to go back and change a poll after it's created.

Depends what else is on the table. If you're having a grilled cheese, nothing can beat tomato soup for dipping. If the soup is on its or with something lighter, I have to go cheddar ale soup.

I went with Lobster Bisque, but a mushroom soup done right can be heavenly.

I am a Soupaholic. This was tough. Lobster bisque was my final choice but only because it said cream of mushroom which reminded me of that disgusting loaf falling out of a Campbell's can. Good wild mushroom soup or mushroom bisque is the best. Tomato basil bisque with a little blue cheese sprinkled on top or a really quality beer cheese soup would also qualify. I make a killer vegetarian split pea. I use veggie stock and load it up with veg and puree the whole thing, sprinkle a little fresh shaved parm on top...stop it's amazing.
