I'm blaming the Windows update last week. My Opera browser won't open when I switch the PC on. (Microsoft Edge does, however.) If I restart the PC, it's fine. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but it didn't make any difference.
This is annoying, and I don't really want to start all over again with a different browser. Any ideas?

might want to wipe out any registry keys after uninstalling. If you can back up your bookmarks / user profile first (and didn't wipe it out when uninstalling), that's probably a good idea if you don't use any sort of sync feature for all your stuff.
oh, and seriously... back up your registry before you touch it with a ten foot pole. if you break that, your whole Windows installation can go ass over teakettle.

I’m confused as to what you mean. Isn’t restarting the PC the same as turning it on? Or the problem occurs if the computer is off for more than a few seconds before you turn it back on, but not if you restart?

Yeah, I meant when I switch it on in the morning, after being off all night, no browser. A restart is said to cure all ills. Having said that, it worked fine this morning without a restart. So either my messing around with settings worked yesterday, or it's an intermittent problem that will plague me till the crack of doom.

You can't do a bookmarks import/export? Also, I read "ballache" to be pronounced "ball-ah-chuh" and hereby propose that become the new standard.

In Chrome, go to Menu > Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager, then when that window opens, Menu > Export Bookmarks. It'll put all your bookmarks into an HTML file. Then in Firefox, Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks, then in that window ("Library"), Import and Backup > Import bookmarks from HTML (or "Import data from another browser" which will carry over more data like your cookies as well I think and totally forgot about until just now when I opened Firefox to explain how to do all the things.)

I've been using Firefox almost exclusively for over 10 years. I also use it at work, which drives the national IT nuts. They keep insisting that we should be using Internet Explorer, but then Edge appears, and the our front line folk seem to prefer Chrome. There's very little I can't do easier using Firefox. Every other week we have a pricing strategy meeting in someone else's office - she's set for IE as her automatic browser, but GoTo Meeting won't open on it, so I copy and paste into Firefox.
Firefox's home page is also suggesting interesting articles via Pocket these days.

A few days in, I have no complaints about Firefox. get Ublock Origin and never look back. I use Chrome since Google already has a comprehensive profile on me, given that I use Android and Gmail, so I kinda... just don't give a damn any more.

I think that was the plug-in that prevents me from logging into Kinja on any GMG site that isn’t kinja.com. But on my iPad, Chrome won’t take plug-ins.
