Also put me up for Fetch the Bolt Cutters. Is good. This is the first Apple project I've really listened to in full, this might be the album that gets me to check out her other stuff.

The whole "stay at home" thing has stunted my exploration of new music, because there's no good time to properly listen to it. Still, might as well get on the board with the following:
Code Orange, Underneath This band has been great since their debut, but this album is simply God-tier for me. I love every track, and I love how it flows between face-fucking hardcore, industrial wankery and cool 90's jams, often within the space of the same song. Like the last time I felt this way about a hardcore record was probably All We Love We Leave Behind.
Dance Gavin Dance, Afterburner I'm the only one here who likes this band, so just take my word for it and don't listen.
Ulcerate, Stare Into Death and Be Still This is what death metal is supposed to be.

I've tried with Dance Gavin Dance a few times, mostly when Mothership came out, and I almost like them. I'm going to give the new one a go, maybe this is where it all clicks for me.

Interestingly (or actually probably not), I think that Mothership is their best album, but not the easiest to get into it. After several listens even I was prepared to dismiss it, only for it to suddenly click one day, and now it's my favorite. (The vocals on "Inspire the Liars" are untouchable.) On the other hand, I loved Afterburner from the first listen, but I don't think it's as strong overall. FWIW, my favorite tracks right now, subject to change, are "Lyrics Lie", "Three Wishes" and "Born to Fail." And maybe "Into the Sunset" just because it's so weird.

I am adding Printer's Devil by the band Ratboys. It's not a hardcore record! It is, in fact, a collection of mostly sweet pop-rock songs and I've really fallen for it.

Jeff Rosenstock has a new album called NO DREAM. It rules. His last 3 records have all ended up in my internally held top 2 albums of the years they came out and I wouldn't be surprised if this did the same, I love him/his band more than the other bands.

With the #SAWAYAMAISBRITISH kerfuffle last week, I checked out her Sawayama album over the weekend.
So yeah, turns out I really like Rina Sawayama. And releasing a sweary, nu-metal-with-R&B-vocals lead single for what's mostly a pop album is the kind of balls-out move that really works for me.

Narrow Head sound like the 1990s. To be more specific they've bashed together Smashing Pumpkins, Hum, Far and Deftones to make some Monodrone catnip. There's nothing in the ever reliable combination of big fuzzy riffs and softboy vocals that's particularly new here but rarely has it all been put together this well. If you do check this out it's worth taking into account that the back half of the album is better than the front. Here's a highlight from side A:
Clt Drp (the album intro clarifies, it's pronounced clit drip) are not that. They are noise rock and electro-punk that ends up sounding like nothing I've heard before. It's really good and the guitarist is some sort of pedal wizard because it was only after I'd heard the record a couple of times that I found out it's just guitar, drums and vocals - I'd assumed some sort of gnarly synth work had gone into it.

The Flaming Lips - American Head
Combines the best elements of the both Soft Bulletin/Yoshimi era and the more experimental stuff they've been doing since Embryonic. Looking forward to spending more time with this one over the weekend.

I've been very very into the new Beths album "Jump Rope Gazers"
(As this was an album release year for my band 99% of my listening has been to other bands in our genre and so jangly indie pop & rock will primarily be my contribution to the forum)
