In January, you get two nominations for albums by artists that passed away in 2020. I'll put the poll up after Christmas.
Record Club participation has hit a new nadir, and while it has brought me some good albums I wouldn't have heard otherwise, it's not really supposed to be "what album should ganews listen to this month". So this might be the last round.

John Prine, "John Prine". His 1971 debut. When I first heard "Your Flag Decal Won't Get You into Heaven Anymore" I assumed it was written post-2003. I guess decals have been around for a long time.
Toots and the Maytals, "Funky Kingston" (1972). For Toots Hibbert.

Cynic - Traced in Air - The seminal progressive death metal band lost two members this year, one just 7 days ago. By the way, this album is way more progressive than death, and is well worth anyone's time.

Power Trip, Nightmare Logic. Texas thrash. One of the best shows I saw in 2019 (with High On Fire). RIP Riley Gale.
Rush, 2112. I've heard it's pretty good. RIP Neil Peart.

If this is at me, I'm sorry, I haven't had time to write up my intensely personal relationship with that Type O album and 2020 more broadly. But I do have thoughts about it, I swear - just busy with end of year stuff. Anyway: Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See (1993) (their best album - maaaybe the "dream pop" album ever give or take a Cocteau Twins joint or two - in tribute to the duo's better? worse? equally-good? half, David Roback, 1958-2020) Was (Not Was) - What's Up, Dog? (1988) (featuring "Walk the Dinosaur," arguably a career highlight for Sweet Pea Atkinson, 1945-2020, whom I didn't realize had died this year, but also, a really good and funny pop album beyond that one song, which is pretty good to begin with) Pretty rich (wrong word) year in terms of musical deaths - I'm sure someone else will nominate Adam Schlesinger, Bill Withers, Tim Smith (to name a trio of musicians I've really vibed with who passed this year) ...

Similarly to Diaz, I never got around to writing up 1999 because the world got in the way and now the thread is gone. If one of these win, I promise to write up: Kraftwerk, Computer World (1981; Florian Schneider, cancer) fuck Midnight Oil, Blue Sky Mining (1990; Bones Hillman, cancer) Thomas Dolby, The Flat Earth (1984; Matthew Seligman, COVID-19-related stroke)

Election, end of year, I don't know. Somethings things need threats and promises.

Crash Test Dumbass Computer World was already one of the great Anniversary Club discussions…which has somehow been deleted (it was 2016, I believe, and can’t even find any mention of it). Maybe I still have what I wrote on my other computer, bc it was my definitive analysis of it and one of my best posts ever (which sounds really vain but hey, I like Computer World and want the world to know why). Well, fuck. I replaced it with a really good Thomas Dolby album, but still.

Apparently Cracked thinks this was a lesser-known death.
